Following Wu Yue, who had a figure like a runway model, Yang Chen took the elevator all the way to the top floor of Yu Lei Tower, where the entire floor was the CEO's office and lounge. The modern and avant-garde transparent materials, along with the fresh and vibrant potted plants, decorated the entire floor with a fresh and elegant atmosphere, making it bright and spacious. The subtle details everywhere fully demonstrated the dignity of the CEO's status within the family business.
"Ms. Wu, what does the CEO want me for?" Yang Chen asked curiously, trailing behind her.
Wu Yue did not answer, continuing to walk silently, the sound of her high heels tapping the ground in a steady rhythm.
Yang Chen, feeling helpless, thought this woman must be rather cold, so he didn't ask any more questions. However, Yang Chen felt a bit regretful, thinking he should have checked the CEO of Yu Lei International's background yesterday, not just the recruitment materials. If he had known beforehand, he wouldn't be so clueless now, feeling at a loss when suddenly meeting his superior.
"We're here," Wu Yue said coldly, stopping at a door with elaborate carvings, a large and elegant white door. "The CEO is inside. Go in yourself, and be mindful of your tone. Show some respect!"
Yang Chen wasn't angry at Wu Yue's inexplicably stern tone; instead, he felt more pity for her. If she weren't so cold, why would she look at men so unfavorably? He thought he was quite manly, and hadn't he noticed how the other female employees liked him?
Ignoring the pitiful secretary, Yang Chen naturally pushed open the door and entered the heart of power at Yu Lei Tower.
As soon as he entered, Yang Chen caught a familiar scent, the faint jasmine fragrance in the air, warm and refreshing, reminding him of his wife, Lin Ruoxi. Didn't that cold girl also have this scent?
The CEO's office was surprisingly large, over 100 square meters, with a semi-circular layout. The entire curved wall was made of clean and thick floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a view of the bustling central area of Zhonghai City. Thin white curtains fluttered with the cool breeze from the air conditioning.
The floor was covered with a soft Mediterranean wool carpet, with a vintage and intricate design. A few emerald green potted plants were placed around the desk and corners, complementing the office's lighting beautifully.
The crystal chandelier on the ceiling was a rare collector's item, its delicate craftsmanship casting a brilliant glow, adding a touch of elegance and mystery to the room.
Several silver-toned metal bookshelves were filled with various books and albums, and next to them was a massive mahogany desk. However, the large CEO's chair behind the desk was currently empty.
Yang Chen was puzzled about why the CEO had called him but wasn't there. Just then, a door to a lounge on the right side of the office slowly opened, and a figure gracefully walked out.
The atmosphere in the office suddenly became bizarre, as if all the oxygen had been sucked out of the air, and both people seemed to forget to breathe.
Their eyes met, and the complex emotions in them were hard to describe, even for the parties involved, because it was all too fake!!!
"Th-this... you... I... that... I..." Yang Chen, who usually thought he had a good psychological resilience, found himself at a loss. This unexpected meeting left him tongue-tied, his mind a mess, unable to think of what to say.
The woman in front of him wore a pair of crystal high heels, her slender legs encased in black lace, exuding a subtle charm. She wore a well-fitted beige business suit that accentuated her perfect figure, with a high waist that made her shapely buttocks even more alluring. Her long, jet-black hair was neatly tied up, highlighting her elegant, swan-like white neck. And to top it all off, she had a face that was impossible to resist...
"What do you mean?" Lin Ruoxi, seeing the man in front of her with a look of speechlessness, the tension and complexity in her earlier emotions vanished, and she said with a playful and teasing tone, "Aren't you always so talkative and smooth? Why can't you even say a complete sentence now?"
Yang Chen opened his mouth several times but couldn't form a complete sentence. Finally, he angrily went to the water dispenser in the corner of the office, grabbed a paper cup, and drank a large cup of water, gulping it down. After wiping his mouth, he calmed down a bit, turned around, and faced Lin Ruoxi again.
By now, Lin Ruoxi had already taken on the authority of the CEO of Yu Lei International, a giant in the fashion industry. She sat calmly in the large CEO's leather chair, looking at Yang Chen with a calm and cold expression, like an untouchable goddess statue, solemn and radiant.
"Life is like a play, and a play is like life," Yang Chen looked at the woman in front of him for a long time and couldn't help but laugh. "Dear little Ruoxi, if you had told me you were the CEO of Yu Lei, I wouldn't have had to struggle so hard to find a job. You could have just given me a small security position, clean and in an office."
"Mr. Yang Chen, be mindful of your address. In the company, I am your superior," Lin Ruoxi's beautiful eyes flashed with a cold light. She had thought this man was being quite honest just now, but now he was being disrespectful again.
Yang Chen chuckled, "In the company, you are my superior, but outside the company, I can call you by name, right?"
"No!" Lin Ruoxi quickly rejected, finding the disgusting and provocative way he addressed her repulsive. She frowned and said, "You can call me by my name, but don't add those disgusting things."
Yang Chen ignored her, his mood now calmer. The initial shock had subsided, and he pulled a chair over to sit opposite Lin Ruoxi's desk, crossing his legs and sighing, "Alright, let's not talk about that. CEO Lin, why did you call me here?"
Lin Ruoxi, remembering the purpose of calling him up, gave Yang Chen a glare and then rotated the computer screen 180 degrees, pointing to his application materials. "Your resume says you have a master's degree in marketing management from Harvard University and are a full scholarship recipient. You are also fluent in English and French."
Yang Chen glanced at his resume, understanding what Lin Ruoxi was getting at, but could only nod. "That's correct. What's the problem?"
"A master's degree from Harvard, fluent in English and French," Lin Ruoxi looked at him as if seeing him for the first time, examining him up and down. "Weren't you selling lamb skewers in the West District? How do you have such an educational background?"
Yang Chen, who had prepared his story, recited it like a script. "When I was young, I was separated from my family and sold to America, where I was adopted and raised. I grew up, went to university, and learned French. However, I have no grand ambitions. After my adoptive parents passed away, I returned to China to sell lamb skewers. You can ask the vendors in the West District; they all know I returned half a year ago."
Lin Ruoxi, who could lead a large company like Yu Lei International, was not a fool and wouldn't easily believe Yang Chen. A hint of displeasure appeared on her beautiful face, and she coldly snorted, "Then how did you score full marks on the German and Italian language tests in the foreign language proficiency test?"
