Chapter 10: The Lolita English-Chinese Dictionary (Seeking Reviews and Collections)
7 min read1,858 words
The air after the rain was filled with the unique scent of a mix of grass and soil. The bright sunlight gently fell, passing through the bright window, and shone on Mu Fei's sleeping face.
"Ugh~~" Mu Fei softly groaned, habitually turning his body to the side without sunlight. As he turned, his hand landed on an unknown semi-circular object. This thing was warm and soft, with a texture as if it were a large jelly.
Seemingly sensing that today's "blanket" was different from usual, Mu Fei drowsily opened his eyes. If he hadn't opened them, it would have been better. At that moment, he was startled to see a face as beautiful as an angel, just twenty centimeters away from him. The perfectly arched eyebrows, the long eyelashes, the delicate nose, and the pink, tender lips—all were exquisitely perfect.
The owner of this beautiful face—the little girl he had picked up yesterday—was now being hugged by Mu Fei like a blanket, with his other hand resting on her chest, which was the "jelly" he had been kneading. Xu Xiaomeng was wearing Mu Fei's clothes, which had a very large collar. From Mu Fei's angle, it seemed as if two large bunnies were about to jump out of the collar, making Mu Fei's nose feel hot.
"Ah~~~~~" He screamed loudly, as if he were a virtuous young woman being violated, startling a flock of birds into flight.
Xu Xiaomeng, woken by the noise, rubbed her eyes drowsily and immediately beamed at the sight of Mu Fei.
"Brother, you're awake, good morning."
Mu Fei缩在角落里,用被子紧紧挡住自己保存了近二十年的处男之身,伸出一只手,哆哆嗦嗦地指着许小萌。“你,你来我房间干什么?你对我做了什么事情。”
Xu Xiaomeng scratched her face with her white, slender fingers, raised her head in a thinking pose, and after a few seconds, she remembered and pulled out a pair of men's underwear from somewhere.
"I remember now, I came to bring you your underwear, brother." Xu Xiaomeng answered crisply, holding the pair of boxers without any of the awkwardness that most girls would feel when seeing men's underwear, as if it were completely normal.
"Didn't we agree that you would stay in another room? Why did you end up in my bed?"
Hearing Mu Fei's words, Xu Xiaomeng giggled and her eyes turned into two crescent moons, looking cute. "When I came in, I found that brother was still asleep, so I waited by the bed for you to wake up. But I fell asleep while waiting."
So she had been waiting for him for a while. Mu Fei couldn't blame her anymore, but he blushed and waved his hand. "I need to change my underwear."
The meaning was clear: he needed to change his underwear, and it was inappropriate for a girl to be there. However, Xu Xiaomeng seemed not to understand, sitting there and still smiling at Mu Fei without any intention of leaving.
Mu Fei scratched his head in frustration, wondering what kind of brain this girl had. He then stared directly at Xu Xiaomeng, emphasizing each word, "I need to change my underwear. Do you understand what that means?"
Xu Xiaomeng blinked her eyes in confusion, thinking for a few seconds before slapping her hand. "I get it, brother means that Xiaomeng should help you change. Come on!!"
Before she finished speaking, Xu Xiaomeng jumped in front of Mu Fei and started pulling the blanket. Mu Fei, who had a habit of sleeping naked, was startled by her actions.
"I'll change myself, no, I don't need your help."
"Brother, let Xiaomeng help, no need to be polite."
"Ah, stop pulling the blanket, get out, get out."
"It's fine, no need to be shy. When we were little, brother used to change my underwear. Now let Xiaomeng repay you."
"You, Xu Xiaomeng, if you keep this up, I'll get angry."
"Xiaomeng is so cute, brother won't be angry with me!"
"..."
"..."
The two of them argued back and forth. After a while, there was a dull thud, and a flock of birds were startled into flight, accompanied by a girl's "Ouch." The argument finally came to an end.
When Mu Fei, wearing his pajama shorts, walked out of his room, Xu Xiaomeng was already serving breakfast and sitting at the table, rubbing her sore head. The breakfast was simple: mung bean porridge, tea eggs, small steamed buns, and a small dish of pickles, a standard breakfast in Northeast China. For someone like Mu Fei, who rarely had breakfast, it was quite a feast.
Mu Fei, without bothering to dry his face and hands, grabbed a tea egg and took a bite. The rich aroma filled his mouth, the texture was smooth and not greasy, neither too salty nor too bland. It was the best tea egg he had ever tasted.
"This little girl may be a bit clumsy, but she's quite good at cooking." Mu Fei glanced at Xu Xiaomeng, feeling a sense of warmth. In elementary school, his mother always prepared breakfast for him, and he often picky about it. Since high school, no one had made breakfast for him. During his relationship with Qi Ying, he had taken care of her, and he had never enjoyed such treatment. He never thought that a stranger would make breakfast for him.
Mu Fei gently stroked Xu Xiaomeng's smooth hair and smiled. "Xiaomeng, thank you."
Xu Xiaomeng giggled and turned her head, and to Mu Fei's surprise, she blushed.
"Brother likes... Xiaomeng will make breakfast for you every day."
Mu Fei didn't know what to say. He hugged Xu Xiaomeng and patted her back, then sat down to enjoy the rare breakfast.
As Mu Fei ate, he suddenly remembered something and asked, "By the way, Xiaomeng, don't you need to go to school?"
Xu Xiaomeng thought for a moment, then replied with a puzzled look, "I can't remember. I don't think I've ever been to school."
This simple statement struck Mu Fei differently. Nowadays, every child goes to school. Why hadn't she? This was something to think about.
Mu Fei, lost in thought, glanced at the English book on the table. He picked up the high school English textbook, opened a random page, and pointed to a word, asking, "Xiaomeng, do you know this word?"
Xu Xiaomeng didn't hesitate, raising her hand as if answering a question, "Tongue, it means the tongue. As a verb, it can mean to lick, scold, or use the tongue."
Mu Fei was speechless. This girl was playing with him, right? He didn't know this word, and she claimed she had never been to school? That would mean he was inferior to a girl who had never been to school.
Feeling a sense of defeat, Mu Fei decided to test her again.
"What does this mean?"
"Prevent, a verb, meaning to prevent or guard against."
"What about this?"
"Musician, a noun, meaning a musician or instrumentalist."
"And this?"
"Beethoven, a proper noun, a famous musician."
"What about this?"
"What about this?"
"What about this, this, and this?"
"..."
Mu Fei asked several, maybe ten or even dozens of words, but he didn't know how many. No matter what he asked, the innocent little girl in front of him always answered immediately, faster than an English teacher, and always completely correct, as if she had a dictionary in her head.
"I'm not even as good as a girl who has never been to school. Sob, sob, sob..." Mu Fei laid his head on the table, tears streaming down his face, feeling utterly defeated, leaving Xu Xiaomeng with a desolate and sad back view.
Xu Xiaomeng looked at Mu Fei in confusion, walked to his side, and shook his shoulder, "Brother... actually..."
Mu Fei raised his hand, signaling her to stop, turned to look at Xu Xiaomeng, and said with tears in his eyes, "Xiaomeng, don't worry, I can handle this."
He picked up the English textbook and said, "Come, one last question. What does this word mean?"
"Uh!" Xu Xiaomeng responded, looking a bit unsure, and turned her gaze to the book. This time, she didn't answer immediately, instead, she touched her lips, thinking.
Mu Fei felt a surge of joy, laughing, "Finally, there's something you don't know. I knew it, a girl who has never been to school can't be better than me, right?"
"Ha ha, what's wrong, Xiaomeng? You don't know this word, do you?"
Xu Xiaomeng still had a thinking expression, speaking softly, "Dairy, if this word is used, it means a milk shop or dairy farm, but..."
Hearing her words, Mu Fei laughed as if he had won a million dollars, "Wrong, wrong, wrong! This word means diary, not a milk shop. Xiaomeng, you still need to learn."
"No, no, no..." Xu Xiaomeng shook her head, her long finger wagging, "Brother, you're wrong."
"Diary is spelled d-i-a-r-y, pronounced diary, while this word is spelled d-a-i-r-y, which indeed means a dairy shop. However, in context, it should be that I write a diary every day. Using the word for a dairy shop here would be grammatically incorrect. So..."
Hearing Xu Xiaomeng's words, Mu Fei's laughter froze, "So what?"
Xu Xiaomeng closed her eyes and shook her head, looking like an old scholar, "Based on Xiaomeng's judgment—this book has a printing error."
No way, Mu Fei looked at Xu Xiaomeng in disbelief. How could a textbook be wrong? Is this girl just messing with me? But Mu Fei had a bad feeling.
"If you don't believe me, you can check the dictionary." Sensing Mu Fei's disbelief, Xu Xiaomeng took out an English-Chinese dictionary, flipped to a page, and said, "Brother, look, the book says dairy, which indeed means a dairy farm or shop. So, the textbook is indeed wrong."
Mu Fei felt as if a lightning bolt had struck him, leaving him charred and crispy.
He stood up, hands behind his back, and walked to the window, sighing, "Sigh, I never thought that after years of hard study, I would be inferior to a girl who has never been to school."
"Brother... actually..."
"It's okay, Xiaomeng, I can handle it."
"I mean..."
"Nothing to say, with a sister like you, I'm very satisfied. The future of our home depends on you." He patted Xiaomeng's shoulder, as if making a final statement.
At that moment, Xu Xiaomeng was holding an alarm clock, showing it to Mu Fei.
"Xiaomeng, why are you holding an alarm clock?"
Suddenly, Mu Fei was startled and started panicking, "Damn, it's already 7:50. Why didn't you tell me earlier? It's too late, I'm going to be late."
Xu Xiaomeng looked aggrieved, "I tried to say something, but brother didn't let me speak."
Mu Fei didn't have time to argue, frantically searching, "Where are my jeans? Where's my T-shirt? Damn, Xiaomeng, where did you put the socks you washed yesterday?"
At that moment, Xu Xiaomeng, like a little cat, was tiptoeing to escape. Just as she was about to hide in the room, Mu Fei grabbed her by the collar from behind.
"Bad girl, why are you running? Did you do something bad?"
"Hehe, hehe," Xu Xiaomeng pointed with her finger, neck缩着脖子傻笑着,眼睛却偏向一边,结结巴巴地说着,“我把哥哥所有的衣服都洗了,那个,那个,昨天还下了一夜雨,衣服一件儿都没干,所以——哥哥只能穿湿衣服上学了。”
