Cass Bedivere had known ever since he was able to remember that he was not loved.
His father did not love him, his mother gave him the cold shoulders. He could see things even clearer when Excalibur had blessed him with intelligence, resulting in him returning his parents’ coldness with the same coldness and alienation – as if they were merely acquaintances.
The only person who loved him was his elder brother.
He didn’t understand what kind of love his elder brother gave him, he didn’t know what he did to make the other give him everything he had, more than the people who didn’t care about him. His intelligence sparked his curiosity towards the other person.
Gilbert Bedivere.
This person has the same features as him: both his hair and eye colour, even the fact that he doesn’t have any magic. Even though they were similar, father and mother unconditionally loved that person .
Is it because he’s the eldest son?
He asked himself this so many times he’d lost count, then, he’d eventually stopped asking himself this. It might be because he liked the other: his smile, his hugs even if he hasn’t asked for it, this person will always replace anything that he does not have enough of. It made him think…
…whatever.
His motives don’t matter…
…as long as elder brother loved him…that is enough.
However, in the moment he stopped caring about it and had started to live for himself, being cold towards his family and anyone else, he’d accidentally encountered the answer he’d always waited for.
“I can’t love him…I can’t love that child…”
One day, in the middle of the night, as he sat on the veranda, he could hear the faint voices coming from his mother. His father was standing not far away.
It might be because he didn’t have any magic so his father couldn’t detect him, he didn’t move, not producing any noise, making his father not notice of his presence.
“That child didn’t do anything wrong…”
“I know! I know! I know it wasn’t wrong for him to have been born…but I can’t do it! I can’t love him!”, mother bursted into tears. “I want to hug him. I want to tell him I love him like any other mothers out there but…but when I think…it’s because of him…”
Once…he wondered why father and mother loved his elder brother more than him…
“…because of him…it was because of Cass that Gilbert doesn’t have magic. I…”
On that day…the answer he had searched for was right in front of him.
His mind went blank.
He made his elder brother magicless? But, what happened? He wanted to know but didn’t have the courage to ask anyone, in fear that they’ll know that he ‘knows’. He began investigating into this matter with the intelligence and talent he had.
A certain ritual piqued his interest.
As he looked back to his deductions and the components of the ritual, the results was able to give him the answers he wanted…
…his elder brother ‘had’ magic.
He wasn’t someone who was useless. In fact, the type of his magic was as rare as Haref Lancelot’s
Power of Darkness.
If that is so then why wasn’t he killed? The answer was that his magicless elder brother had sacrificed his own magic in order to seal his powers…
…but something was suspicious.
How could Prince Salsaal who should have had his magic sealed away able to use dark magic? Maybe, there’s some sort of trigger but the answer to this question would be discovered at a later date.
When he got his answer, he acted as normal around everyone else, considered his own capabilities and made a decision.
He packed his belongings.
He ran away from home…
…in order to find a certain someone who doesn’t have magic because of him.
“Elder brother…”
He will not let anyone look down on that person.
I will return everything you have given to me…
…because I know well, in this world…
…there is no one else…
…that I can love more than you.

At the same time…
“I’m riding a horsie through the countryside. Yass! Yass! Yass! Yass!”
Bam!! Bam!!
“But horsie has the face of a thieffff.” (TN: in case you’re wondering what Gilbert’s on about: he’s singing a random song in the middle of the battle)
BAMMMMM!!!
“Shut the hell uppppp.”
When Duncan requested that I shut my mouth, I stopped singing. I am now being piggy-backed by Duncan Kay, the muscles guy, and we are now running away from the 4G boyband’s, Nigel’s group.
To-be duke Gareth, Gaheris and Geriant.
As for Gawain, aka Nigel, it was fortunate that he’d separated from the 3G subunit or else Duncan and I wouldn’t even get a chance to runaway no, that’s not right, only Duncan Kay is running right now.
Even though, his muscles may be a bit too big, he may look like a savage but he actually isn’t a bad person. When he saw that I’d tripped, he ignored me and walked away as if we were strangers but when he encountered Nigel’s 3G subunit, he put on a stance as if planning to fight them so I had to climb onto his back, pulled the back of his hair and made him realise that he will definitely lose in a 3 v 1 situation.
After tugging at his hair, he still insisted on fighting so I started to pull his hair out for real. We played around for a while before Choux Gareth called upon a thunder bolt to remind us that we weren’t the only ones that existed on this world so, I forced him to run or else he would become bald at such a young age.
I looked at the patch of hair in my hand…I’m scared Duncan Kay would come beat me up after this. I might have to go and sleep in Haref’s room in order to avoid getting beaten up to death.
But that doesn’t matter right now…
“Bloody helllll.”, Duncan swore as we ran away and tried to hide from the 3G subunit. Although, he may have a big body but he’s got pretty good agility. “Hey, you useless log! Find a fucking way to get away from them!”
Well, aren’t you rude…
I was deep in thought. I looked at the 3G subunit, “I don’t have any magic, what would I be able to do?”
“Use yourself as bait!”, Duncan said heartlessly. It seems like he wants to throw me away as soon as possible, I’m hurt by this. I pulled his head up, hm, it seems like I’ve also pulled strands of hair from him.
“They’re sending us thunder bolts. Why don’t you send something to intercept their thunderbolts.”, I said. “You’ve got the earth element right? Hm…can you make rocks come out of the ground?”
“Yeah!”
“Then make loads of pebbles. They might trip.”, I teased him.
“Are you stupid or are you mad? Those kind of pebbles are useless!”, Duncan shouted in irritation. “Our shoes have been designed to be extra thick – we wouldn’t have a problem if there were small obstacles!”
The to-be Dukes wear high heels?!
So that’s why they’re so tall!
I felt like I was the only one who was playing fair within this battlefield! Do you know, sometimes an uke or seme is decided by their heights?! It seems like I’ll have to either saw all of their shoes’ heels out or buy myself a pair of boots with extra high heels.
Within a moment, Duncan was able to make a decision, he ignored my pulling, faced the three to-be Dukes and unsheathed his sword. He roared, “I won’t run away anymore. Come! All three of you can come at the same time or individually!!”
Those who have caught up to us flinched at the lion-like roar from Duncan. As for me, I got up after dropping from Duncan’s back and covered my ears, “Why the hell are you shouting…”
But Duncan didn’t pay any attention to me. A large sword appeared in his hand. He pointed his fingers at his enemies, his actions startled the other three to-be Dukes before Choux Gareth walked out in order to battle him 1 on 1 while the other two to-be Dukes stood on the sidelines.
Chivalry…
…it’s shockingly righteous.
I looked at the sparks produced when the two swords struck against each other and looked at the remaining to-be Dukes. They don’t seem to have any intentions to unsheathe their swords and join the fight at all. I thought to myself that after Duncan’s duel finished, they’ll collectively force me to also go and fight them for sure. With their righteousness, I’m sure they won’t let me stand on the sidelines…
But the thing is, I don’t think I’ll win.
I mumbled in annoyance, titled my head and looked down at my own hands.
Question: If there’s a large gap between power and talent between you and the person you’re fighting, what can you use in order to make yourself the victor?
If you say it elaborately, then it’s intelligence.
If you put it plainly…
“That’s a pain…”
..it’s ‘cheating’.
.
.
.
Nigel is alarmed.
Before him is the man that is both his childhood friend and the person he has to triumph over as a Gawain: a man who remains a pure and peaceful atmosphere even if he may be trapped in a land made entirely out of ice.
“Now that I think about it…we haven’t fought each other seriously before.”
In the silence…Haref was the one who spoke first, he spoke with a normal tone of voice, not even his actions differed from normal – void of any pressure, making Nigel stressed out. “If it’s not me who goes easy on you then it’ll be you who goes easy on me…”
“Yes…”
“Your power’s increased.”, Haref said, he lifted his pure white hands to touch the fluffy snow.
However, just by touching it…
…the snow melted…
…froze his hand and slithered up like a poisonous snake, making him curve the corners of his lips into a smile.
“Beautiful but cruel. Delicate but violent. That’s a great power.”, Haref closed his eyes, a ray of sunlight appeared above his the palm of his hand, melting the vicious snow in the blink of an eye. “…But, if you want to win against me, this much isn’t enough.”
“I thought so.”, the sword within Nigel’s hands was raised into a battle-ready stance, making the pair of rainbow coloured eyes sparkle. The owner of those eyes closed his eyes.
The coldness that had enveloped both of them slowly melted.
A hot light appeared atop the other’s hands.
Nigel’s argent eyes flashed a concern. He tightened the grip on his sword. Even if he’s already known that he will lose this fight…
“This time…please don’t go easy on me.”
…but he will never regret trying his best.
