Chapter 05: First date (Part 2)

You can call it an aquarium in Saitama, but it’s actually closer to Tochigi.

It was about an hour and a half from my house in the suburbs of central Tokyo.

I wondered if it was a bad idea to get dressed up and go out with my sister together on a Sunday. So we decided to just meet up at Omiya station.

Naturally, I thought it’d be bad to keep my sister waiting (in case someone were to pick on her, a bad guy, or an accident).

So I decided to leave first.

I’ve been worrying about what to wear on the date since the day before, I left the house dressed as neatly as possible in jeans, a shirt and a hoodie.

Uhh, I want to be fashionable too you know…

Though it was a classic, my mom was still surprised to see me dressed a little nicer.

“Oh dear, you finally got a girlfriend in high school?”

“No, I was just going out with my friends.”

“You have friends!?”

Mom… you too…

I thought about complaining about it, but my girlfriend is my sister, and today is our first date, and since it’s me and my sister, I still feel pretty guilty about my parents.

Hence with no affirmation or denial (well just a little bit of denial)

I went out with a curt reply, “Hahaha, I have a few…”

After leaving home, I soon arrived at Omiya station and headed for the meeting place.

There were some more places for us to meet at, like the information center or the beanstalk, but, well, we decided to meet in front of the ticket gate as usual.

“I think I came a little too early.”

While flicking through my phone, I formulated a plan for the day in my head.

A short time later,

“Did you wait for me long? Onii… Yuu…-kun?”

She was wearing a floral print spring dress, a yellow cardigan, her hair braided in an updo, a beret, and red fancy glasses.

Who is this!!! This super cute girl… Oh wait, that’s my sister.

“Uh, a disguise?”

“You’re so terrible, Onii-chan. That’s the first thing you say to a girl who’s all dressed up for you?”

“Ah, sorry, you were looking so cute so, wait, that’s not it, you’re always so cute… Ahh.”

I follow up in a hurry, slurring.

“Un, Thank you♪”

She turned bright red and looked down, and I did the same, embarrassed.

I noticed that people around us were looking at me warmly.

“Shall we?”

“Un.”

With that, our first date as siblings begins.

We took a train and finally a bus. It didn’t take us long to get to Ikebukuro, but we went all the way to this place…

It was a small shabby aquarium…

No dolphins or seals, mainly river fish exhibits, seems to be for neighborhood kindergartens and elementary schools…

I honestly don’t know why my sister wanted to come here.

We both went outside to look at the tanks one by one.

There was a pond outside nearby where the fish food was being sold.

“Can I feed the fish, Onii-chan?”

“Of course.”

I suddenly felt a déjà vu when I saw my sister feeding the koi fish with a smile on her face.

Huh? I think I’ve been here before.

I was standing next to my sister who’s looking at the pond to ask her if we had been here before.

“You know, we’ve all been here before when we were little.”

My sister talked nostalgically as she fed the fish.

“Ah, sorry, I just remembered.”

I apologized to my sister, wondering why I didn’t see it from the beginning.

“It’s okay, at that time, I was little too and not really interested in fish, so I was outside looking at the pond, but I was bored, so I was playing a game that you had. Then a fish jumped, and in surprise I dropped the game console. I started crying because I thought Onii-chan was going to be mad at me, but then you came up to me and told me that you were so glad that Shiori didn’t fall into the pond and that it was just a game so it was okay.”

“Yeah, that reminds me.”

Actually, when I got home and Shiori wasn’t looking, I cried a lot.

“Onii-chan, since that time, no, even before that, you’ve been… always been so kind to me…”

“Yeah, because I’m your Onii-chan.”

“Yeah, my Onii-chan… the most important person…”

Saying so she turned her head down, oh no, I don’t know what to say more.

Me and my sister stood there near the pond without saying anything…

I stared at the pond for a while, unable to say anything, and then my sister looked up at me and started talking.

“You know… Onii-chan, you know, I… I…”

Woa, what a pretty face, red cheeks, quivering lips.

Yabba, yabba, yabba, yabba. (Yabai)

She looked up, closed her eyes and said!

“I’m sorry Onii-chan… But I’m so cold!!!!”

Early April, wearing a light cardigan and a fluttering one-piece dress…

Even if you say it’s in Saitama, it is almost close to Tochigi… so if you stand by the pond, of course you will feel cold.

“Ahahahahah!!”

“Eh—, why are you laughing— s-so cold”

“Ah, sorry-sorry, it’s not that. I just think you’re cute.”

“I’m not happy about that.”

Seeing her red-faced, pouting, reminds me of the old days.

“Then wanna go home?”

“Eh— no way!!”

“Hmm, then, let’s go shopping for some clothes, the outlet isn’t that far away, right?”

“Un!”

Oh God, if I hadn’t done that, I would have actually kissed my sister.

I stared at my sister’s lips as she sat beside me on the bus, talking happily.
