Boom!!
Luo Jing's head began to vibrate.
Rumble!!
Luo Jing's head shook violently.
He was trembling! He moved!!
Bang!!
His head collided with something hard, and Luo Jing groaned.
Slowly opening his eyes, he saw a dim, grayish scene. A figure was moving in front of him, seemingly busy closing windows and tidying up. To the left of the figure, a window was faintly visible. Outside, a flash of lightning illuminated the room brightly.
Ugh....
Luo Jing groaned. He wanted to raise his hand to rub the back of his head, but his body was completely unresponsive. A mix of numbness, itching, and pain surged through him, and his limbs felt as if they didn't belong to him, lying lifelessly by his sides like four thin sticks.
"Am I dead?" His mind was still hazy. He remembered that he had died from an electric shock when he accidentally touched a power outlet with wet hands while showering. He had seen a blue electric spark between his hand and the outlet, followed by a thick, acrid smoke, and then he knew nothing.
His mind was a blur, and all his memories seemed to have turned into a mess.
Luo Jing strained to open his eyes wider, trying to see what was happening around him.
Bang!!
Another violent jolt, and his head hit the bedboard behind him. A sharp pain shot through him, and Luo Jing fainted completely.
....................
He didn't know how long it had been, perhaps a day, or perhaps several days.
He finally felt some sensation in his body, and his consciousness gradually cleared from the daze.
Click. A light sound, like a door closing.
"Is Mom out?" a girl's voice asked.
"Uh-huh, she had breakfast and went to buy some fresh vegetables. I'll go to Auntie's place later," a familiar male voice replied, and then there was silence.
Luo Jing suddenly found himself sitting in a small bedroom. In front of him was a rectangular desk, and he was holding a black fountain pen, writing letters on a white sheet of paper.
Bright white light streamed in from the window to his right, and outside, a light rain was falling. The red roofs of the opposite residential buildings were wet and glistening.
Suddenly, like a flood breaking through a dam, a massive and complex stream of memories surged into his mind.
"Ugh...." He groaned involuntarily, holding his forehead. Countless unfamiliar memories flooded his brain.
Garon? Am I Garon? I... have I been transported to another world?
He couldn't think about anything else, enduring the headache as he rapidly reviewed the memories flooding his mind.
This world had a background similar to the European Industrial Revolution. There were cars, airplanes, and firearms, but no weapons of mass destruction.
His identity was that of a 16-year-old boy named Garon, whose parents were ordinary employees at a rubber company. He had a younger sister named Ying'er. The living environment was similar to that of the European Industrial Revolution, but the appearance of his family and himself made it clear that this was not Earth.
Both he and his sister had naturally black-purple hair and wine-red eyes, inherited from their father and mother, respectively. On Earth, he had never heard of anyone being born with such hair and eye colors. Moreover, the most powerful countries mentioned in the history he had learned were not China, the United States, or Russia, but the Al Federation, the Weissman Empire, and the Tulip Republic. The world structure was similar to Earth's, with hundreds of countries of varying sizes and different systems.
Apart from the different place names and environment, everything else was similar to Earth. People here received a comprehensive education from elementary school to high school and then to university. He was currently enrolled in the third-ranked Saint Lark Noble Academy in the province, a high school he had just entered a year ago. He had fallen ill at home, and the original Garon had died, allowing Luo Jing to take over his body.
As he organized the memories, he mechanically changed his clothes. When he came to his senses, he found himself sitting in a small, clean, white room, eating a soft cherry cake at a white table. The cake, about the size of a palm, was light yellow, with white cream and red cherries arranged in a circle on top.
Luo Jing's attention was still immersed in the memories of Garon.
In the memories, although Garon and his sister attended a noble academy, this was only possible because their parents had saved and worked overtime. To send the siblings to this school, the family had reduced all expenses to the minimum. The parents even stopped buying clothes and jewelry, and all the benefits and bonuses from the rubber company were used for school tuition and living expenses.
Unfortunately, neither of the siblings had a talent for learning, and their grades were consistently below average, no matter how hard they tried. Moreover, most of the other students at the academy were wealthy or noble, making the siblings feel inferior and affecting their personalities. Garon became eccentric and introverted, while Ying'er became quiet and reserved.
"Later, you'll go to school. Don't play around with your classmates; focus on your studies and aim to get into a good university," Garon's father, Lombard, said sternly while eating a salad from his plate. "And Ying'er, don't always read novels; focus on your studies."
"Okay," Ying'er replied obediently. She sat to Luo Jing's right, wearing a delicate white blouse with a white corsage on her chest, highlighting her youthful and cute figure. She wore a black-purple pleated mini skirt and thick black tights to cover her legs. As she ate the cake, her black leather shoes were pointed inward, and she kept her head down, looking meek.
Luo Jing ate the cake silently, occasionally sipping milk. He glanced at Ying'er's outfit and noticed a black and silver emblem on her chest, a wreath surrounding a line of letters, indicating that this was the uniform of Saint Lark Academy.
He looked at himself, wearing a fitted white shirt with black and silver stripes on the cuffs and collar, and matching black trousers and shoes. He looked handsome and stylish, and the outfit was of high quality.
The siblings' appearances were average, with their black-purple hair and wine-red eyes adding a bit of color. Ying'er had a plain face with a few freckles and pimples. Garon himself had messy hair, dull eyes, and deep-set eye sockets, looking as if he had been ill for a long time, which made him appear unwell.
After finishing breakfast, Luo Jing had absorbed most of Garon's memories. The siblings helped clear the table and prepared their school bags and books.
"Bro, have you seen my history book?" Ying'er called out from her room.
"No," Luo Jing, or rather, Garon now, replied casually.
He was also packing his books, including history, geography, etiquette, mathematics, and even swordsmanship and archery. He stuffed the books into a black backpack, sighed, and walked to the window, opening it to let in a cool, damp breeze.
Below the window, there was an open space between two residential buildings, with a gray-black checkerboard pattern on the ground. On the left side, a group of people were queuing in front of a muscular man holding a banner, which read "Victory for Korinth." The crowd was growing.
Directly below, a gray-yellow wooden cart was being pushed by a woman, filled with tools and ingredients for selling pancakes.
Suddenly, a white bird flew past Garon, making a few turns before disappearing.
He was startled, realizing that he was truly in another world, looking down from his fourth-floor home at a scene entirely different from China.
The people outside had various hair colors, including blonde, silver, and red, and different eye colors. Their skin tones ranged from black to white. They spoke a special alphabet-based language similar to English, which Garon could understand and read.
He was no longer the adult from Earth but a 16-year-old boy with an ordinary family and appearance, and a weak body. His parents worked daily, leaving in the morning and returning in the evening. He and his sister returned home from school once a week, living a monotonous life between school and home. After high school, they would take the national exam, and if lucky, get into a good university, have a good start, and find a good job. They were just two of the many students taking the national exam.
Having a good job was the greatest hope his parents had for the siblings.
"If it weren't for my weak body, I might not have succeeded in coming here," Garon said with a bitter smile. He had a feeling that during his unconsciousness on the carriage ride home, Garon's body might have been instinctively resisting his consciousness. If he had a stronger body, he might have been completely rejected.
"According to the memories, this world is still in the Industrial Revolution period, with firearms but no decisive strategic weapons. The world structure is similar to before the appearance of nuclear weapons and missiles," he thought. "It's not the world of magic, martial arts, or fantasy I imagined, with no signs of the supernatural at all."
Thinking about this, he didn't know how to live his life. Initially, he had a glimmer of hope when he realized he had been transported, but after organizing his thoughts, he found that this was just a technologically backward world.
"Well, I'll just take it one step at a time. The first priority is to improve my health," Garon said, lifting his thin, stick-like arm and smiling helplessly.
With their backpacks, the siblings walked to the front door, closed it, and started down the stairs. Garon, carrying the household garbage, led the way, observing the other residents and the environment as they went.
The stairwell was dim, with only two households per floor, each with a brass mailbox engraved with names on the left side of the door. They looked quite old.
Most of the residents going up and down were dressed in neat suits and long dresses, with straight backs. Despite their tired faces, they moved quickly, indicating a fast-paced life. Only a few residents looked poor, including some vendors.
The siblings remained silent until they reached the entrance, where they threw the garbage into a bin. Garon glanced at his sister, who was half a head shorter than him. She was his half-sister, brought by his father after his remarriage, while he was from his mother's previous marriage. They had no blood relation, and their relationship was only slightly better than that of friends.
As usual, they boarded the school bus, which already had a few students on board.
