"Come and eat." Kakashi approached Yewuji's side, holding a bowl of porridge, his voice slightly ingratiating.
"Hmm." Yewuji responded with a hum, sitting up from the bed, his eyes still filled with a hint of complaint. It was all because of this person in front of him that Yewuji had to lie in bed for two more days.
After extracting chakra that time, Yewuji fainted. When he woke up, it was already the afternoon of the next day. Only then did Yewuji learn from Kakashi that extracting chakra was not something that could be accomplished in one go. Even in Konoha, very few people could extract chakra in a single day. After all, it was difficult for a child to concentrate for an entire day. However, it generally took about seven days to extract chakra, with geniuses being an exception. Some people took longer, even up to a year.
For normal people, it usually took about seven days from learning how to extract chakra to actually doing it. Most of these people came from families with ninja, so they knew how to proceed.
In this sense, extracting chakra seemed simple. With a bit of perseverance and some knowledge of the process, anyone could do it. However, chakra is provided by the body's cells and determined by one's mental energy, which is the strength of one's spirit. This means that when chakra is extracted, the body lacks a large amount of energy, which must be replenished from the outside. In other words, becoming a ninja is not something the poor can afford.
From this, Yewuji realized that it was similar to martial arts in his previous life, where it was often said that the poor studied literature while the rich studied martial arts, with a similar meaning.
Another aspect related to mental energy is the ability to control this power. If one cannot control it, it's not a big issue; a normal person can generally do this. However, some people, like Lee and Guy, can extract chakra but lack the mental energy to control it well, making it seem as if they don't know any jutsu. In reality, they do know jutsu, but they can't control chakra well enough to perform them. With effort, they can still perform some basic jutsu.
Yewuji remembered Naruto's graduation exam, where the clone jutsu was tested. Lee could graduate, proving he could use the clone jutsu. However, these were basic jutsu, so Lee and Guy focused on taijutsu. After all, chakra can strengthen the body. Since their bodies had chakra but they couldn't perform jutsu, it made more sense to use chakra to strengthen their bodies. Otherwise, it would be hard to explain how Lee and Guy remained so strong without chakra, which would be exaggerated. Moreover, in the entire Naruto world, there were only a few people who specialized in taijutsu. If they could be so strong without chakra, there would be more of them, not just a few with perseverance.
In short, extracting chakra is somewhat dangerous at the beginning. In large ninja villages, whether in schools or ninja families, there is always someone supervising the process to prevent accidents. For example, if Yewuji had not had Kakashi by his side, even if he had extracted chakra, he might have suffered from a sudden lack of energy, potentially leading to death or severe bodily damage.
Kakashi explained this to Yewuji after he woke up, mentioning the dangers and some other taboos.
Fortunately, Kakashi was by Yewuji's side, and as a student of the Sannin Jiraiya, he held a high position in Konoha. Therefore, he had access to medicinal herbs that were beneficial to the body. Over the past few days, Kakashi used these herbs to cook porridge for Yewuji, helping him recover without any lingering issues.
However, since Yewuji's body was originally that of a civilian, even with Kakashi's careful care, he still had to lie in bed for two days.
These dangers only occurred at the beginning of chakra extraction. Once one has chakra, the risks decrease.
Thus, Yewuji realized that being a ninja required money. Only with money could one provide the body with the necessary nutrients to better extract chakra and train.
This was why Yewuji complained when he woke up. If he had waited a few more days, with Kakashi's careful care, his body would have been in even better condition, and the risks would have been lower.
Moreover, because Kakashi didn't explain things clearly at the beginning, Yewuji almost lost heart and gave up.
For the past two days, Yewuji lay in bed, mostly ignoring Kakashi, who treated it as a child's tantrum.
However, seeing Yewuji's gaze, Kakashi scratched his head, a bit embarrassed, and said, "Don't look at me like that. I've already apologized. It was my first time teaching, and I assumed you knew some basics, forgetting that you weren't raised in Konoha. Ha ha."
Seeing the Fourth Hokage, Kakashi, being so considerate, Yewuji couldn't continue to be angry. Although Kakashi had forgotten to explain, it was also because of this that Yewuji was able to extract chakra. If Kakashi had explained everything at the beginning, Yewuji might not have had the determination to do so, as having a backup plan changes one's mindset.
After eating, since Yewuji's body wasn't fully recovered, Kakashi decided to continue training him only after he was completely well.
"Thud, thud," Yewuji used a kunai to deflect the incoming kunai and quickly hid behind a tree. He was wearing simple tight-fitting clothes, his eyes scanning the surroundings.
Starting from the third day, Kakashi began to train Yewuji strictly. Every morning, they practiced chakra control, and in the afternoon, they focused on physical and stealth training. In the evenings, Kakashi taught Yewuji about medical jutsu, though he only knew some basic first aid and simple chakra-based treatments, as he was not an expert in this area, having learned from Tsunade, one of the Sannin.
After about half a month, Yewuji's body had changed significantly. Thanks to the nutrients and chakra, he had grown taller, and with his snow-white hair, he looked like a little handsome boy, or more accurately, a little cutie.
At first, Yewuji thought about using the physical training methods from Earth, which were scientifically proven and studied by experts. However, after seeing Kakashi's training methods, he gave up. The basic training methods were similar to those on Earth, but at a higher level, the knowledge from Earth was useless. This world was not a feudal society but a high-level martial arts world. Methods that worked for ordinary people were ineffective here.
Thus, Yewuji put aside his small thoughts and temporarily set aside his pride as a穿越者 (穿越者 means "穿越者" in Chinese, which can be translated as "time traveler" or "穿越者" in English, but in this context, it refers to someone who has been transported to a different world, so I will use "time traveler" for clarity). After all, most of Yewuji's knowledge from Earth was self-taught, and much of it was learned online. Attending school was a joke; even if a school had accepted him, he couldn't afford it.
From the start of training to the seventh day, the schedule was changed to morning chakra training and afternoon sparring with Kakashi.
During the sparring, Yewuji realized the biggest difference between his world and this one. In this era, whether adults or children, there was no taboo about killing. In Yewuji's world, although there were many dark aspects, he, as an ordinary person, had never experienced such things, only reading about them online.
This difference meant that the theory of combat in this era was well-developed, while Yewuji was only familiar with theoretical knowledge. He had only imagined how he would use jutsu, but in reality, during his first sparring with Kakashi, Yewuji was still stunned when Kakashi's kunai was already at his throat.
Yewuji realized his combat awareness was poor, which was why Kakashi changed the training method. Kakashi had already noticed Yewuji's lack of combat awareness, which was not just a lack but a complete absence.
This sparring session was on the fifteenth day. Yewuji had trained for seven days and then spent the next eight days focusing on combat awareness. According to Kakashi, Yewuji's alertness was too low, which was a fundamental issue. For Kakashi and his peers, even when facing friends, they could react instantly, almost as a reflex.
Thus, the time spent on combat training was much more than on jutsu training. Sometimes, even when Yewuji was sleeping, Kakashi would sneak up on him, and if he failed to react, he would have to hang upside down from a tree for half an hour.
After Kakashi's targeted training, Yewuji could now exchange a few blows with him. Although Yewuji knew that in a real fight, he might be defeated in one move, he was still happy to be able to exchange a few blows with Kakashi.
Hiding behind a tree, Yewuji was observing his surroundings. Just as he turned his head, a kunai flew toward him. Before he could react, the kunai hit him, but "poof," he turned into a puff of smoke and disappeared.
On a hidden tree, Kakashi, seeing Yewuji disappear, said to himself, "Clone jutsu, huh? At least you're starting to look the part. You haven't wasted my time. I can probably return soon."
As Kakashi spoke, "whoosh" sounds came from three kunai forming a triangle and flying toward him.
"Interesting, you noticed me, did you?" Kakashi said to himself and then disappeared, causing the three kunai to miss.
"Fourth Hokage, indeed. At such a young age, his speed is already this fast. Could he already be developing the Flying Thunder God technique at this time?" Yewuji, hiding in the nearby bushes, watched Kakashi disappear without surprise. In Yewuji's mind, missing was normal, hitting was not. However, seeing Kakashi's speed, Yewuji was still shocked. After so many days of training, Yewuji was no longer a complete novice, yet he was still amazed by Kakashi's speed.
Yewuji was sure it was Kakashi's real body, not a clone, but even so, he couldn't see how Kakashi moved.
After observing the surroundings and finding nothing, Yewuji felt something was wrong and tried to move. Just as he was about to, a hand pressed on his shoulder, and he was thrown off the tree.
Falling, Yewuji looked up at Kakashi, then landed on the ground with a flip and put away his kunai. As he fell, Yewuji thought, "Unfortunately, I've only learned the transformation jutsu so far. If I had learned the substitution jutsu, I might have been able to use it to escape."
Speaking of the three basic jutsu, Yewuji was in tears. Despite his two lifetimes and strong mental energy, and with a decent amount of chakra after training, he still learned slowly.
Thinking about this, Yewuji wanted to cry. It was all because of the hand seals. Besides extracting chakra, Yewuji had been practicing hand seals. The twelve hand seals—Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig—seemed simple at first, but when it came to performing them, it was not so easy. Yewuji could perform the hand seals, but they were too slow. Jutsu not only required chakra but also the speed of hand seal execution. Yewuji always exceeded the time limit, and so far, only the clone jutsu could be performed within the required time. Thinking of Itachi's ability to perform six seals in a second, Yewuji was in tears.
The substitution jutsu always failed due to the time limit. As a life-saving skill, it required a very short casting time, and some, like the Fourth Hokage, could perform it without seals.
Over the past few days, Yewuji's hands had swollen from practicing hand seals. Fortunately, the Fourth Hokage knew some medical jutsu, or he wouldn't have been able to keep up with the training.
Standing below, Yewuji looked up at Kakashi and said, "You always do this, Kakashi-nii. You're cheating, relying on your speed to bully me."
Calling Kakashi "nii" (older brother) was not a big deal for Yewuji. Although his mental age might be older than Kakashi's, his physical age was younger. Yewuji had wanted to call Kakashi "sensei," but Kakashi said he wasn't ready to take on a student. Instead, he could recognize Yewuji as a younger brother and promised to ask his teacher to take Yewuji as a student in the future. Yewuji thought it would be great to be a student of Jiraiya, one of the Sannin, so he didn't insist.
"Whoosh," Kakashi appeared in front of Yewuji, tapping his head, "Don't talk nonsense. In a ninja battle, do you expect others to go easy on you? What did the angels teach you?"
"Hehe," Yewuji laughed, thinking to himself, "In the entire ninja world, there's probably no one faster than you."
However, Yewuji only thought this to himself.
"Alright, that's enough for today. Let's go back. I'll give you a surprise tomorrow." Kakashi said and left.
"Are you leaving?" Yewuji, being a normal person, knew that Kakashi could only stay with him for about half a month, and it was time for him to return to Konoha.
