Looking at the black wolf in front of him, Ye Wujì felt a bit scared. He originally didn’t know what the gift Minato was talking about, but he didn’t expect Minato to mean that he lacked practical combat experience. Ye Wujì was even more afraid that Minato would find a ninja to fight, but he didn’t expect it to be a wolf from the forest.
At first, Ye Wujì thought Minato just wanted him to see some blood. It’s just a wolf, after all. He could hide and throw a few shurikens, and that should be enough.
In his hand was a shuriken, a specialty of this world, the one Minato often used. It was entirely black, made of good steel, with a completely spiral-patterned handle to make it grip better. Near the handle, there seemed to be some small holes, which seemed to absorb sweat to adapt to long battles.
Moreover, with Minato’s status, this shuriken might be a chakra weapon, capable of injecting chakra to enhance its lethality. The blade glinted, indicating that this shuriken had killed many people. After being here for a while, Ye Wujì learned that most of the good weapons in this world were in the hands of ninjas. Ordinary people and bandits mostly used iron weapons, and the better ones were made of steel. After getting this weapon, Ye Wujì tried it and found that he could indeed inject chakra.
Most of the weapons used by ninjas were made of black steel, which had better hardness, elasticity, sharpness, and malleability compared to regular steel. Better than black steel weapons were chakra weapons, and better than chakra weapons were special weapons, such as the Raijin sword and the seven great swords of the Mizukage, which had even better chakra injection properties. Above that were legendary divine weapons like the Kusanagi sword and the Yata no Kagami. Ye Wujì knew of only a few such divine weapons. If they were from ancient China, he could name a few, but he didn’t know about this world. Although it seemed like Japan, there were many differences, and the knowledge from his previous life couldn’t be applied here.
For example, Ye Wujì once asked Minato if there were yin-yang masters in this world, but Minato seemed to have never heard of them. It wasn’t that they had declined; they had never existed. Given Minato’s position in Konoha, even though it wasn’t very high, his teacher was one of the Sannin, and he was a grandchild of the Third Hokage, making him a junior to the current Second Hokage. Minato should have seen the records, and yin-yang masters shouldn’t have been classified as top-secret information.
This almost made Ye Wujì suspect something, and he was asked where he had read about it. Ye Wujì could only say it was from a children’s book, suggesting it might be a wild guess, which dispelled Minato’s suspicion.
After that, Ye Wujì was very careful about what he asked, fearing he might say something wrong. This world had many strange aspects, and Ye Wujì couldn’t figure them out.
For example, Minato could clearly explain the First Great Ninja War and the establishment of the Five Great Nations, but he was unclear about the situation before the war, only mentioning a chaotic era. No one from that era left any traces, which was very strange. Even in a chaotic era, there should have been some famous people, like the First Hokage and Madara, who were known to many. To avoid arousing Minato’s suspicion, Ye Wujì didn’t ask further.
Despite many doubts, Ye Wujì confirmed one thing: the humans in this world seemed to have appeared suddenly, with no origin. On Earth, there were many theories about human origins, but in this world, there were none. Everything seemed to have a dividing point, cutting off the past. Moreover, no one in this world seemed to be aware of this, which was why Ye Wujì didn’t dare to investigate further. He was too weak now, and even if he became powerful in the future, he might only have the right to investigate, and he might never have that right.
Ye Wujì shook his head, dispelling these strange thoughts. The main thing now was to survive in this world, and then consider other matters.
Now, he had to kill the wolf in front of him. Although Minato was watching, he wouldn’t be in any real danger, but this was his first performance in front of Minato, and he couldn’t let Minato save him at the end, which would be embarrassing.
At first, Ye Wujì remembered that wolves had copper heads, iron bones, and tofu waists, so he aimed for the wolf’s waist. He had brought several wooden shurikens in addition to Minato’s black steel shuriken. He used three wooden shurikens to aim at the wolf’s waist, but the wolf’s tail knocked them all away. Ye Wujì was startled, almost thinking he had encountered a mythical beast, or a summoning animal from the ninja world. Scared, he quickly changed his hiding place. His combat awareness was gradually growing, and the battles here were similar to snipers in his previous life, where one shot and a change of position were necessary to avoid danger.
Fortunately, after observing, Ye Wujì realized that the wolf’s reaction was instinctive. He hadn’t been too careful, and wolves have excellent vision and hearing, much better than humans. In his previous life, a person with a dagger would have lost to a wolf.
Although the people here were much stronger than those on Earth, the wolves were also much stronger, with better hearing and vision.
After many attempts, Ye Wujì had only two wooden shurikens left, and he had almost been bitten by the wolf.
In the end, Ye Wujì realized that it was unrealistic to kill the wolf without injury. With Minato watching, he used the black steel shuriken to fight the wolf. The weapon was very sharp, much sharper than the wooden ones, and he quickly inflicted many wounds on the wolf, but he was also scratched in many places, fortunately not bitten.
Finally, Ye Wujì used a clone to distract the wolf and stabbed the shuriken into the wolf’s eye, killing it. Even then, he was almost crippled by the wolf’s final attack.
When Ye Wujì finally killed the wolf with great effort, Minato, standing on a tree branch, nodded in satisfaction and then jumped down.
"Minato-niisan," Ye Wujì called out, despite the pain.
"You did well. Rest a bit, and I’ll treat your injuries," Minato said, starting to heal Ye Wujì’s wounds, especially his right arm, which was almost torn off by the wolf’s final attack.
After the treatment, Ye Wujì felt much less pain, and his right hand was bandaged. He went to the wolf’s body to retrieve the shuriken from its eye, intending to return it to Minato.
When he handed it to Minato, Minato took it and placed it in Ye Wujì’s tool bag, apparently intending to give it to him.
Seeing Minato’s action, Ye Wujì was a bit moved, but he also reacted like a child, smiling and saying, "Thank you, Minato-niisan."
"Minato-niisan, are you going back?" Ye Wujì and Minato were now leaving the cabin where they had stayed for over half a month, heading toward the town.
After the wolf incident, Ye Wujì’s injuries healed in just a couple of days, with no scars left. Chakra for healing was indeed a godlike ability.
"Yes, I’ve stayed longer than my teacher expected. The war is probably reaching its final stages."
"Oh," Ye Wujì now knew that the Second Great Ninja War was ongoing, and he remembered that it ended with the Sannin fighting Hanzo, resulting in a draw.
"Will we meet again?" Ye Wujì asked.
"Of course. When my little Wujì grows up, you can come to Konoha. I’ll be waiting for you," Minato said, patting Ye Wujì’s head.
"Hmph," Ye Wujì pushed Minato’s hand away. He hated it when Minato patted his head, despite protesting many times. He could only push Minato’s hand away and glare at him to show his displeasure.
"Ha ha," but it always ended with Minato laughing.
As for going to Konoha, Ye Wujì would definitely go in the future. Konoha had a very good environment, suitable for living, which was why many countries always targeted it during wars.
In Ye Wujì’s mind, among the Five Great Nations, Konoha in Fire Country was the best. In his previous life, it would have been a beautiful tourist area.
The climate in Wind Country was too dry, with constant sandstorms, and the lack of water, though not a problem for ninjas, didn’t suit Ye Wujì.
Water Country was on an island, with heavy humidity and constant fog, which would likely cause arthritis if not for the training environment.
Earth Country was mostly barren and rocky, with many mountains, making travel difficult.
Lightning Country was similar to Earth Country, with many mountains, but the people lived on the mountains and experienced constant thunderstorms, which would be very noisy and dangerous.
In contrast, Konoha was blessed with a clear four seasons and a forest surrounding it, created by the First Hokage, which was very suitable for rest. In his previous life, large forests were rare on Earth.
However, Ye Wujì didn’t want to go to Konoha now, as the Third Great Ninja War was ongoing, and the situation was dangerous. With the Second Hokage in charge, a strong and strict leader, someone with a bit of ninja skill like Ye Wujì might be sent to the front lines as cannon fodder.
At a fork in the road, where they were to part ways, Minato said, "Alright, let’s part here. Remember to come to Konoha after the war."
"Okay, I will. You be careful too."
"Don’t worry. You should be more careful. Do you really not need my help?"
"Minato-niisan, I’m a ninja now. Don’t worry, I’ll find a place to stay in a nearby town. You should go back."
"Alright, I’ll wait for you in Konoha." With that, Minato turned and left. Watching Minato’s jumping back, Ye Wujì sighed, thinking, "Now I’m on my own. It’s time to start some plans."
