Ling Sao's body stiffened, and she suddenly threw herself at him, hugging him tightly. "Mo Yu! I don't want you to call me Auntie. Don't you have any interest in me? I don't need you to take any responsibility; I just want a man!" She kissed him wildly on his neck and face.
"Auntie!" Mo Yu's hand pushed her away forcefully.
Ling Sao's body was pressed tightly against his. Her thin clothes were already wet, and they could clearly feel each other's warm bodies, but they could not warm each other. Ling Sao broke free and ran away, sobbing.
Mo Yu sat in silence for a long time, then silently dried his body, put on the clean clothes that were prepared, and left the bathroom.
Ling Sao stood outside the door, wearing a plain long dress, her eyes still slightly red. Their gazes met, and he opened his mouth, but Ling Sao spoke first. "Xiao Mo, I hope you can forget what happened just now. I will still be your Auntie... please... please don't look down on me." Her face turned red as she spoke, but she kept her eyes on him.
Mo Yu was slightly stunned and said in a deep voice, "You will always be my Auntie."
Ling Sao smiled.
The next day, Mo Yu opened his eyes at sunrise, a habit he had formed over the years. His body sprang up from the ground, and the pain from his injuries made him truly wake up. Without wasting any time, he quickly walked to the bed to check on Mo Liang. Seeing his pale face and deep sleep, he was relieved that his breathing was steady, but his face turned somber. Mo Liang had always been strong and had the potential to cultivate, but Mo Yu didn't know how to explain his current condition to him when he woke up.
A gentle knock came at the door. "Mo Yu, are you awake?"
It was Ling Sao.
Mo Yu took a deep breath and got up to open the door.
Ling Sao, wearing an apron, brought in two bowls of chicken soup. "I killed a hen last night. Both you and Mo Liang need to build up your strength. I'll feed him, and you drink it while it's hot."
"Thank you, Auntie."
"Since you call me Auntie, don't say thank you anymore." Ling Sao glanced at him, turned around, and carefully lifted Mo Liang to lean against her, feeding him spoonful by spoonful.
Mo Yu looked at her side face and noticed the change in her attitude. He felt relieved and rolled up the bedding, then picked up the chicken soup and drank it slowly.
"How is Mo Liang?" Ling Sao asked suddenly.
Mo Yu paused. "He might not be able to do heavy work in the future, but it's okay. I will take care of him and teach him a skill, which will be easier than manual labor."
Ling Sao's hand trembled, clearly not expecting the injuries to be so severe. She fell silent for a moment, then carefully wiped the chicken soup that had spilled from Mo Liang's mouth. "How do you plan to tell Mo Liang? Will he accept it?"
"Mo Liang might suffer for a while, but I believe he can get through it." Mo Yu's voice was low and somber.
They fell silent.
Ling Sao put down the empty bowls, laid Mo Liang down, and tucked him in. "Don't go out for the next two days. Stay at home and rest. We'll wait until the situation calms down."
Mo Yu nodded.
She walked to the door with the two empty bowls, a hint of hesitation in her eyes, but she didn't say more and stepped out. However, she quickly returned, holding a folded piece of animal skin, which looked quite old. She hesitated and said, "I didn't want to tell you this, but I'm afraid you might resent me later. You can decide what to do with it." She handed the animal skin to him.
Mo Yu's eyes showed confusion as he took the animal skin and looked at it. It was a detailed map, with the terrain clearly marked. Following the lines, it seemed to lead to a hidden place. He looked up, his face showing surprise.
"This is a legacy from your brother Lin. He obtained this treasure map, and after extensive research, he found some clues to a treasure. That's why he went alone into the branch of the Wild Mountains and never came back. I don't know if the map is real, but I've kept it as a legacy all these years."
"A treasure map?"
"Yes, I remember Lin Xiang was very excited before he left. He said that if he succeeded, we would live a life of comfort. Mo Yu, I know how much you value Mo Liang, even more than yourself. If he becomes disabled, you will feel guilty for the rest of your life. That's why I'm giving you the treasure map. If you find the treasure and get valuable items or enough treasure crystals, you might be able to buy something to cure him. But even if there is a treasure, it must be very dangerous. Your brother never came back, which is proof. So, Auntie hopes you think carefully before making a decision." Ling Sao looked at him, her eyes filled with worry.
Mo Yu was silent for a moment, then smiled. "Auntie, you should know that even without this treasure map, I would try other ways to cure Mo Liang. So, I won't miss this opportunity. Thank you."
Ling Sao bit her lip slightly and said softly, "You're still the same. Since you've made up your mind, I won't try to persuade you. When do you plan to leave?"
"Tonight."
"That's too soon. Your injuries haven't fully healed. Why not wait a couple of days?"
"Just some minor injuries. The ointment has helped a lot. It's not a problem." Mo Yu glanced at the sleeping Mo Liang. "The best time to take healing pills is before the broken bones heal, to avoid any lingering issues. I'll try to return before Mo Liang wakes up. Auntie, please take care of him while I'm gone."
"…Alright, I'll prepare some food for you."
The night was dark, and everything was silent. After the busiest time, even the brothels and gambling dens gradually quieted down. The crescent moon was slightly tilted to the west, its light becoming dimmer, and a few stars in the sky flickered weakly. The darkness was so thick that it was hard to see anything. At the hour of Yin, just before dawn, the darkness made its last fierce appearance, and it was the most tiring time of the day. The front door of Lin's restaurant opened silently, without any light spilling out. A nimble figure darted out and hurried along the black stone road, moving as silently as a cat, making no sound at all.
Ling Sao watched the figure disappear into the darkness, a hint of worry in her eyes. Many years ago, she had also sent her husband off on a dark night, and he never came back.
Sighing softly, she carefully closed the door.
...
The city gates were tightly closed at night to prevent wild beasts from entering and harming people. However, after the Four Seasons Sect had conducted several sweeps of the nearby mountains, the city of Four Seasons had not suffered from wild beasts for many years, and the night guards had become lax. After the day, the temperature dropped rapidly. Although the early autumn night wind was not as piercing as winter, its chill was still significant. Since everything was peaceful, no one wanted to suffer from the cold. The city tower was warm, with several night guards gathered around a stove, telling jokes and laughing. A pot of dog meat was boiling, and the rich aroma filled the air. They occasionally took a sip of strong liquor to keep warm, enjoying themselves.
San Quan chewed on a piece of dog meat and stood up. "I need to go to the bathroom. You guys keep eating, I'll be right back."
"Ha! Did you overdo it with Xiao Tao Hong last night? This is the fifth time you've gone tonight. Are you feeling weak? We'll save this dog meat for you to help you recover."
"Go to hell! I'm strong and can handle it seven or eight times a night. Don't curse me!" San Quan laughed and cursed as he pushed the door open. The autumn wind made him shiver, and he hunched his shoulders as he walked out.
"What a dark night." He muttered, unbuttoning his pants. He wondered if he was really feeling weak and thought he should be careful. If he couldn't climb onto a woman's stomach in the future, he would be laughed at by his friends. Maybe he should secretly go to the clinic to get some tonics. But Xiao Tao Hong was really intense last night, with her tight thighs and twisting waist, making it hard to stop. Thinking about it, he felt a surge of desire.
But at that moment, he saw a black shadow flash by in the dim light from the city tower. He was startled, and his desire immediately subsided. He shouted, "Who's there!" As he spoke, he quickly fastened his belt and took a few steps forward. The black shadow flashed again and quickly disappeared.
"What's going on!"
The men in the city tower were alarmed and came out one by one.
San Quan turned around, his face calm. "Nothing, I just saw a stray cat. The light made the shadow longer, and I thought someone was climbing the wall. Let's go back and continue drinking."
"San Quan, you must be feeling weak if your eyes are playing tricks on you. Be careful, there are only tired oxen, not broken fields!"
"Shut up, I know my body. No one is to say anything about this tonight, or I'll be angry." San Quan cursed and pulled the men back into the city tower, but his eyes couldn't help but glance in the direction the black shadow had gone. It was a person, he was sure of it, but the speed at which they left indicated they were not easy to deal with. For a few coins, there was no need to risk his life. Sometimes, it's smarter to turn a blind eye.
...
Mo Yu left the city and abandoned the rope in a hidden spot, then rushed straight to the branch of the Wild Mountains. His speed was not too fast, but his steps were steady, his breathing long and deep. Each step was precise, with almost no deviation, maintaining a steady pace. As the darkness began to fade, his breathing deepened slightly, and a fine layer of sweat appeared on his nose. He looked ahead in the dim light and saw the black, continuous mountains, like a giant beast lying on the ground, with its high ridges like a spine, exuding a silent pressure in the quiet night.
His pace did not change as he ran to the foot of the mountain. He entered the dense forest and stopped, taking out a water bottle and drinking a few sips. He rested for a moment and carefully observed the direction behind him, ensuring no one was secretly following him. He then breathed a sigh of relief. Traveling in the mountains at night was dangerous, and a single misstep could cost him his life. Mo Yu would wait until dawn, which was only a short while away, but it was enough for him to rest and regain his strength.
