Chapter 9

6 min read1,496 words

In the dense forest.

A group of people moved like a snake, winding their way forward.

Despair, confusion, and dejection permeated the crowd.

Dalei and Chen Hui supported each other, following the group slowly.

With the path already trodden by those ahead, their journey was much steadier, though they still stumbled occasionally.

"If I had known..."

Chen Hui gasped for breath, struggling to lift her foot from the pile of leaves:

"I would have worn a pair of sports shoes."

She was wearing sneakers, which were fashionable but not suitable for long-distance travel. At least they weren't the worst option, like high heels.

"If I had known?" Dalei was speechless:

"Who could have known we'd end up in such a hellish place?"

"Exactly!" Chen Hui sighed:

"I wonder what Cheng Qi and Zhou Jia are doing now, whether it's safe up ahead?"

"You don't need to worry about them." Dalei shook her head:

"Zhou Jia, with his physique, and having killed the wolf-headed monster and the corpses, will be fine. What's there to worry about for a big guy like Cheng Qi?"

"It's you I'm worried about. Your arm is cut and there's no medicine to treat it, and we don't know if it will get infected."

"Two beautiful ladies." As he spoke, a blond-haired man approached with a grin:

"Need any help?"

"No need!"

His attitude was frivolous, and his gaze never left Chen Hui's legs, which naturally made the two women uncomfortable. Chen Hui even snorted:

"Don't cause trouble. My friend is scouting ahead."

To ensure the safety of the journey, those who had killed the wolf-headed monsters or some corpses were sent to scout, their strength far surpassing that of ordinary people.

This statement was quite threatening.

"I know." The blond shrugged, chuckled, and pulled out a pair of pants from behind him:

"My girlfriend's spare. Want them?"

"..." The two women's faces stiffened, and Chen Hui looked embarrassed:

"Sorry."

"No problem." The blond touched his signature hair, handed over the pants, and whistled:

"I, Qiangzi, am the most chivalrous. Your legs are so beautiful; it would be a pity if they got hurt without protection."

Chen Hui rolled her eyes:

"Thanks."

She knew it was inconvenient, but the idea of wearing pants from a corpse was hard for her to accept, given her lifelong cleanliness.

His intentions were good.

But his attitude was off-putting.

"No problem. If you need anything, just come to me." The blond waved his hand grandly and turned to walk away.

"Put them on." Dalei felt the pants, deep in thought:

"Branded goods, not cheap. That blond may look sleazy, but everything he has is valuable."

"Really?"

Chen Hui raised an eyebrow; she knew her friend was good at this.

There was no need to be too picky at this moment. She glanced around, bit her lip, and pulled up her skirt to put on the pants.

Her face inevitably turned red during the process.

"Beautiful lady!"

"Ha ha..."

Behind them, a few young men laughed loudly.

They may not have had malicious intent, just looking for some fun in this gloomy situation. Chen Hui's glare only made them laugh more.

"Hee hee..." Dalei smiled, her eyes forming a crescent:

"They're quite interesting."

"More like rich." Chen Hui snorted. Just as she was about to say something, she suddenly screamed, her face pale.

"Ahh!"

Dalei's face was equally pale, and she covered her mouth and stepped back.

An arrow appeared out of nowhere, piercing the blond's head, entering from the left and exiting from the right.

The arrow shaft was bloody, the tip gleaming.

The force was so great that it lifted the blond off the ground, and he fell into the grass, dead before he hit the ground.

Not just one arrow!

Several shadows emerged from the darkness, whistling through the air and piercing the crowd.

The accuracy of the arrows was low, but the force was immense, easily piercing through human bodies. Anyone hit was either dead or severely injured.

Screams echoed.

The scene was chaotic.

"Be careful!"

"Be careful!"

Han Fat and Huang Jinfu shouted urgently, calling on those holding car doors as shields to step forward and protect the group.

However, the people present were not trained soldiers and could not organize quickly.

Each person was preoccupied with their own survival and did not think about helping others.

"Whoosh..."

"Swish!"

Black shadows darted out of the forest, accompanied by bloodthirsty roars. Various-sized wolf-headed monsters pounced toward the crowd.

"Stop them!"

"Kill!"

Han Fat's eyes bulged, and he swung a club to block two monsters, striking them down with great force.

Before he could help others, he felt a gust of wind and instinctively blocked with his club.

"Bang!"

A dull thud, his body shook, and he took several steps back before stopping.

Looking at the scene, a monster over two meters tall, riding a fierce wolf, held a spear and looked down coldly.

Rider... rider?

Besides the rider, more armored wolf-headed monsters, each over two meters tall and armed with knives and axes, emerged from the forest, along with more ordinary monsters.

Glancing around, Han Fat's face turned pale.

"Run!"

"Run..."

The crowd was in chaos, scattering like headless flies. The two women had somehow separated, and it was impossible to find them again.

The scene was one-sided slaughter.

Blood and flesh flew.

Screams echoed.

...

"Breath... breath..."

Zhou Jia held a large axe, breathing heavily, his throat burning, and his eyes fixed on the armored monster.

After several clashes, he had a better understanding of his opponent.

Strength, the opponent was stronger!

Speed, the monster was faster!

Reaction, he was no match!

Overall, he was at a disadvantage.

Fortunately, beasts were still beasts, even if they were smarter than the unarmored wolf-headed monsters, they were still not as intelligent as humans.

Plus, he held a large axe, and the monster dared not get too close.

The two were in a standoff, ready to fight at any moment.

"Beast!"

Zhou Jia rasped, taunting the opponent:

"Come on!"

"Roar!"

The armored monster's eyes narrowed, its claws gleaming, and it suddenly roared, crouching and pouncing at Zhou Jia.

Its movements were agile, and its claws sharp. Any mistake from Zhou Jia would give it an opportunity.

Zhou Jia understood this and remained vigilant. When the monster pounced, he threw something from his left hand.

"Whoosh..."

A handful of stones flew toward the monster.

The armored monster instinctively closed its eyes, and when it opened them again, there was nothing in sight.

Huh?

"Swish!"

An axe came from the side, slashing at its throat.

After several attempts, Zhou Jia had discovered that the monster's left eye was damaged, and it couldn't see certain areas. He had planned this ambush for a long time.

This was a do-or-die moment.

He approached and swung the axe with all his might.

"Ahh!"

The armored monster reacted quickly, turning and blocking with its arm.

"Thud!"

The axe blade cut into the arm and continued to press down.

The large axe blade was not something an arm could fully block. Part of it cut into the neck, tearing the flesh.

Hot blood flowed down the axe blade.

"Thud!"

Both man and beast fell to the ground.

Zhou Jia was on top, gripping the axe handle tightly, his face red, and he pressed down with all his might. The axe blade slowly cut into the throat.

The beast below roared and struggled, its left arm almost severed, and its right hand struck Zhou Jia's abdomen.

"Thud!"

"Thud!"

The beast's strength was incredible, and its claws were sharp.

Even with the specially made, tough clothing, Zhou Jia's abdomen was torn, and blood flowed.

Almost gutted.

One pressed down with all his might, the other struggled fiercely.

Man and beast were locked in a stalemate.

"Ahh!"

Zhou Jia roared.

"Ahh!"

The beast roared.

As time passed, the burning pain and the severe abdominal pain made Zhou Jia's consciousness gradually blur. He only remembered to press down with all his might, refusing to let go of the axe.

He heard a hoarse sound in his ears.

His vision became increasingly blurry.

And darker.

After an unknown amount of time.

A never-before-felt aura appeared, entering his body, and the warm aura rapidly healed his wounds.

Zhou Jia's spirit was invigorated, and he opened his eyes wide.

Looking at the scene, the large axe was still in his hand, and the armored monster beneath him was dead, its neck half-severed, and its limbs limp.

In the end, he outlasted the beast.

"Breath..."

"Breath!"

Taking a few deep breaths, Zhou Jia got up, steadied himself, and quickly gathered the items from the scene before heading back.

After a few steps, he thought again and returned to remove the monster's armor and smash its head to prevent it from reanimating.

Carrying the items, he hadn't walked far when a chaotic noise reached his ears.

"Run!"

"Run!"

This is...

Guo Xingzhang?
