Chapter 4 of 100

Chapter 4

I was forced to spend a lot of money from the very beginning. For the Sense [Bow] I obtained, a set of thirty arrows cost 30G, and I bought four sets for a total of 120G.

Then, the initial kits for [Synthesis] and [Mixing] each cost 300G, totaling 600G.

And thirty beginner potions cost 150G.

In total, 870G. I had 130G left. Since my initial funds were 1000G, you can see how much I spent.

In a typical job setup, if you sell the initial weapon obtained when acquiring a Sense for a pittance and buy a higher-tier weapon and consumables, you would still have 500G left.

The reason for the poor cost-performance of the bow is the arrows. Arrows are disposable. Generally, you can't recover the arrows you shoot. When hunting initial enemies with arrows, it takes three arrows to take down one enemy. The drop items are worth a maximum of 3G and a minimum of 1G. This is assuming all arrows hit; if they miss, of course, there's no profit.

Since I also have a production job, even if I convert the items, their value would only triple at most.

"…In other words, the poor initial cost-performance is the reason, right?"

"Yes. Moreover, with magic, as you level up the Sense itself, it gains some tracking function, but the bow has none of that. The attack is almost a straight line. Therefore, the bow heavily depends on the player's ability."

"…Well, there's motion assist, so beginners should be able to manage at the very least. So don't get discouraged, Yun-chan."

"Ah, yeah."

What's going on? Mew, who was just excited about adventuring together, is lecturing me. She probably doesn't like that I chose such a bad Sense. Well, I chose this after hearing the template setup. I guess it's understandable that she's upset.

"Let's go hunting. Let's finish the combat tutorial quickly. I have plans to go hunting with friends in the afternoon."

"O-Okay."

Sis Sei, help me. I sent her a pleading look, but she just smiled wryly.

We left the initial town, Elpscher—commonly known as the First Town—and entered the wide plain outside the city walls. In this map, the MOBs outside the city walls are designed for beginner players. There are paths in the east, west, south, and north.

During the beta, the eastern area was heavily explored, while the north and south were left untouched due to being high-level areas. The western area is rich in gathering items, but the enemy MOB balance is poor.

"First, let's find an enemy. Big brother, attack with the bow, and big sister, use magic."

"Understood."

"Got it."

We started hunting. My sister swung her sword and mowed down the herbivore-like MOBs, while Sis Sei fired water bullets. I shot arrows, but...

"They don't hit at all!"

That's right. Sis Sei can hit with magic from a distance of about two meters, but I, who also use a ranged weapon, miss even at two meters. And the arrows I miss are disposable. The cost-performance is terrible.

Moreover, I get hit by the enemy's attacks when I get too close, and I miss when I'm too far away. The quiver can hold a maximum of thirty arrows, and I have to reload it frequently.

"This is so troublesome!"

"That's why it's a bad Sense. You used up all your arrows, right? Then let's finish with <<Arts>>. My Sword Sense just reached level 5."

Mew slowly approached the herbivore. I thought she was going to hold her sword in a ready stance, but she unleashed a fluid three-hit combo. The afterimage left a faint silver light.

"This is Arts. I think Yun-nee will learn it eventually by leveling up the Bow Sense, but I recommend switching Senses as soon as possible."

"By the way, you get one SP for Sense acquisition every ten levels, and most advanced Senses usually manifest around levels 20 to 30."

"Ah, yeah."

Hunting with the three of us. The items we obtained were far from covering the cost of arrows. I felt that I needed to save money through a production job and completely change my Senses.

After parting ways with Mew and Sis Sei, I returned to town alone to check my acquired Senses.
