Chapter 55

Returning to the pastoral farm, the family of sika deer, stepping down from the transport vehicle, were very curious about their new environment.

Especially the little sika deer, which actually ran onto the back of a large tortoise. The tortoise, however, remained calm and paid no attention to the small weight of the little deer.

"Xiaoming, how about we call it Bambi from now on?" Michelle looked at Liu Yuxuan with anticipation.

Bambi is the name of a young deer in a Disney cartoon, and Liu Yuxuan didn't really care what it was called. His two dogs were named Chestnut and Big Yellow.

The adult deer were ignored, as they were already so big and not as cute and adorable as Bambi.

Perhaps because they were used to living in the mountains, the little deer Bambi was not afraid of people. The adult deer, on the other hand, started grazing on the pasture grass right away. The current pasture grass, although it looked similar, had been grown from seeds soaked in space water.

The pasture grass had never grown very well, and Liu Yuxuan took this opportunity to gradually replace it with new seeds. He worked at night to avoid making big changes that might be noticed by Garcia and others, which left him quite exhausted.

Garcia was now completely impressed by his boss. Growing organic vegetables and getting a chance to obtain the USDA certification label was one thing, but turning a sickly wild horse into a magnificent Flame, which had gained a good reputation in the town, was another. The large tortoise that had come on its own, according to Miss Michelle, was not an ordinary tortoise. Now, after going hunting in the mountains, they had brought back five sika deer.

Once might be luck, twice might be luck, but every time? Now, many people in town were calling his boss the "magical Liu from the East."

Liu Yuxuan didn't know what Garcia was thinking, and even if he did, he wouldn't care. They wouldn't discover the secret of his space anyway.

Now he had to arrange accommodation for the family of sika deer.

The large tortoise found its own place to sleep in the horse stable. The stable wasn't very big, and Flame took up a lot of space. There was no room left for the sika deer family.

There was no choice but to build a new stable next to the horse stable, both for future horses and for the sika deer family.

Building a stable was simple, as the materials were readily available. In Texas, there was no shortage of wood, and every farm had its own forest. When the trees were mature, they could be sold or used to maintain the farm. The fences, in particular, needed regular maintenance.

With a few people working together, a simple stable was built in less than three hours. Summer was approaching, so it just needed to provide shelter from the wind and rain. In winter, it would be reinforced and insulated. The winter blizzards in Texas were severe, often collapsing horse and cattle stables under the weight of snow.

Liu Yuxuan led the sika deer family to the newly built stable, showing them their future home. He then took them for a walk around the farm and especially warned them not to eat the vegetables in the vegetable garden.

Actually, his concern was a bit unnecessary. To the sika deer, the vegetables were not as tasty as the pasture grass.

Thus, the sika deer officially settled into the pastoral farm. Liu Yuxuan wasn't worried about them not adapting; he had never seen an animal that, after tasting the sweetness of the space, would wander around aimlessly.

"Boss, we should celebrate today," Garcia said, looking at Liu Yuxuan.

"Celebrating is fine, but will you prepare dinner?" Liu Yuxuan asked, knowing that this guy just wanted him to cook.

"No, boss, if I prepare dinner, it will ruin everyone's celebratory mood," Garcia shook his head, aware of his limitations. He really wanted Chinese food, just as Liu Yuxuan had guessed.

"Really, what can I do with you?" Liu Yuxuan said with a sigh. "You and Rodriguez prepare the ingredients, and we'll have Chinese-style kebabs in the yard tonight."

Having been in America for so long, he had cooked kebabs with Garcia and others a few times, but he was never very satisfied. Compared to the kebabs here, he preferred the ones from home.

Everyone helped to cut the beef and mutton into chunks, not as small as those sold in barbecue restaurants back home, as these were for their own consumption. After cutting, Liu Yuxuan soaked the meat in space water and skewered it. He also picked two cabbages from the vegetable garden, unsure if roasted cabbage would suit American tastes, so he didn't take too much.

There was no Chinese supermarket in town, so he bought cumin from a Korean store.

Michelle was very much looking forward to Liu Yuxuan's kebabs. She was still savoring the roasted rabbit meat from yesterday.

Garcia bought two buckets of freshly brewed beer from town. Roasted meat with beer was equally loved by Americans.

The grill was welded in the afternoon. The farm had all the necessary tools, and there was no shortage of scrap metal. Rodriguez quickly made it according to Liu Yuxuan's instructions.

Seeing that it was getting late, Liu Yuxuan started the charcoal and began grilling.

The mutton had a good mix of fat and lean, and the beef was rich in fat. Over the dark red charcoal, the meat soon began to drip with oil. The oil dripped onto the charcoal, creating small flames and spreading the aroma.

"See, I told you we should celebrate. The boss's cooking is really great," Garcia said, sniffing the aroma and gloating, earning a scolding look from his girlfriend, Sharon.

Liu Yuxuan ignored him and focused on flipping the kebabs, afraid of burning them. The cabbage was easy to grill, and after brushing it with seasoning, he gave everyone a skewer.

"Try it and see if it suits your taste," he said, worried that they might not be used to the cumin flavor.

"The taste is great. It has the flavor of the cabbage and the sauce you brushed on. It's very delicious," Michelle said, nodding after taking a bite.

The sauce was a mix of space honey water, tomato sauce, chili sauce, olive oil, and oyster sauce.

After brushing the kebabs with the sauce and sprinkling cumin powder, they were grilled for a while and then placed on plates. Liu Yuxuan brought them to the table and said, "The skewers are very hot, so be careful when eating. If you don't like eating them this way, you can take the meat off and put it on a plate." He didn't remind them about the cabbage, as it cooked quickly and the skewers didn't get too hot.

Liu Yuxuan took a skewer of mutton and walked back to the grill, as he was the only one who knew how to grill this way, and he had to do the rest.

After Liu Yuxuan's reminder, everyone ate carefully.

After grilling for a while, Liu Yuxuan noticed no sound behind him. Turning around, he almost laughed. Everyone was holding a skewer, taking bites from one side and then the other, too busy to pay attention to him.

"Boss, your kebabs are really great. The outside is a bit charred, but the inside is tender and juicy," Garcia said after eating three skewers and taking a big sip of beer.

"Um, Liu, it's even more fragrant than yesterday's roasted rabbit meat," Michelle said, nodding her head.

Of course, it was better than yesterday's roasted rabbit meat, which had only been seasoned simply. Today, he used a carefully prepared barbecue sauce.

At this moment, the large tortoise seemed to smell the aroma and slowly crawled over.

Liu Yuxuan took some meat off the skewer and placed it on a plate, bringing it to the tortoise's mouth. He didn't know if the tortoise ate meat.

To his surprise, the tortoise did eat it and looked at him with a lingering desire after finishing.

Liu Yuxuan gave it a few more pieces of meat, not daring to give too much, as there were many seasonings, and he was afraid the tortoise might get an upset stomach. Finally, he gave it some space carrots to satisfy it.

Everyone was very satisfied with the barbecue dinner. What left Liu Yuxuan speechless was that they all said they wanted to have it more often in the future.
