(Thank you, Bingfengdi, for your generous tip. There will be another update tonight.)
"Here, try this, and see how it tastes." Liu Yuxuan tore off a hind leg from the roasted wild rabbit and handed it to Michelle.
"Thank you." Michelle couldn't wait to take a bite. While waiting, the smell made her stomach growl, "Oh, my God, it's so delicious. I've never had such tasty roasted rabbit meat before. I didn't think rabbit meat could be this good."
Michelle was instantly won over by the roasted rabbit meat. She had eaten roasted rabbit before, but never one this delicious. The outside was crispy, and the inside was tender. Each bite mixed with the fat inside the rabbit meat, and it even had a hint of pine tree fragrance.
The three others, seeing Michelle enjoy her meal so much, didn't wait for Liu Yuxuan to offer and started eating on their own.
After taking a bite, they all gave a thumbs up. The taste was truly amazing.
Liu Yuxuan didn't think much of it. The rabbit meat was still a bit tough. By the time of the autumn harvest, the rabbits would be fat, and then they wouldn't need to add oil when roasting. That would be the real delicacy.
Ignoring the four people busy gnawing on the rabbit meat, Liu Yuxuan scooped some wild chicken and rabbit stew with mushrooms from the pot and served it in each of their bowls.
Liu Yuxuan had torn the mushrooms into small pieces. Since the roasting took a while, the wild chicken and rabbit meat in the pot were already stewed to a tender consistency. "If only we had some cilantro," Liu Yuxuan thought.
Michelle and the others didn't care about that. The smell was already so fragrant. They never expected that what they thought would be a hasty dinner would turn into a feast of delicious roasted meat and a rich, fragrant soup. After the meal, they even had some fresh cucumbers and tomatoes.
This wasn't hunting; it was a picnic.
The two rabbits and a pot of wild chicken and rabbit stew with mushrooms were eaten up by the group. They thought about having some coffee, but they were too full from the soup.
After the meal, everyone felt warm and cozy.
"Andre, congratulations on finding such an excellent young man," Andre said to Allen, looking at Liu Yuxuan and Michelle chatting on the other side.
"Of course, I'm the famous Allen of Brown Spring Town," Allen said proudly, pleased with the old friend's praise.
This old guy, after marrying Kate, often boasted to his friends. Now, he would have another reason to boast about his son-in-law, Smith thought, sitting on the side and listening to their conversation.
They didn't stay outside for too long. The cold in the mountains at night was still quite severe. They added more wood to the fire to prevent it from going out in the middle of the night. With the hunting dogs, they didn't need to arrange for someone to keep watch, so everyone went into the tents to rest.
Don't get the wrong idea; Liu Yuxuan and Michelle were separate. Although they had confirmed their relationship, Liu Yuxuan could only hold her hand. Kissing was still a long way off.
The next morning, Liu Yuxuan woke up very early. He didn't sleep well last night, hearing the wolves howling several times.
Stepping out of the tent, mist was floating in the mountains. The three hunting dogs looked up at Liu Yuxuan and then lay down again.
Liu Yuxuan went to the place where he had cleaned the wild chicken the day before. It was a small stream in the mountains. He washed his face with the cool stream water and felt refreshed.
Practicing Tai Chi was a daily routine, and he had already formed the habit.
After finishing his practice, Liu Yuxuan noticed he wasn't alone. On the other side of the stream, five sika deer were drinking water.
A male deer with four-pronged antlers, three female deer, and a young deer that was drinking water while restlessly jumping around.
Liu Yuxuan had never seen sika deer so close before. Their chestnut-brown fur was dotted with white spots, making them look very cute.
The stream wasn't wide, and the five sika deer ignored Liu Yuxuan on the other side, just lowering their heads to drink. Liu Yuxuan took a cabbage from his spatial bag and threw it to the other side of the stream, near the sika deer. He genuinely liked these sika deer.
The sound of the vegetable landing startled the sika deer. They stopped drinking and looked around cautiously, then stared at Liu Yuxuan for a while. Finding no danger, they were attracted by the cabbage and started eating it.
Seeing that one cabbage wasn't enough for the whole family, Liu Yuxuan threw another one. At this point, the young deer seemed curious about something about Liu Yuxuan and hopped over to him in the stream.
The male deer, seeing the young deer approach Liu Yuxuan, quickly made a warning sound, but the young deer ignored it and continued to look at Liu Yuxuan curiously with its big, watery eyes.
Seeing the cute young deer, Liu Yuxuan took a carrot, which Flame loved, from his spatial bag and offered it to the young deer. The young deer didn't refuse and started munching on it.
"Alright, go find your parents," Liu Yuxuan said, seeing that it was already bright, and he rubbed the young deer's head, which was happily eating the carrot.
On the other side of the stream, the male deer had lowered its head, ready to attack. Liu Yuxuan believed that if he made any dangerous move toward the young deer, the male deer would quickly charge over.
After saying that, he turned and walked back to the camp without paying attention to the young deer.
After taking a few steps, he heard a tapping sound behind him. It turned out the young sika deer was following him, while the four adult deer were a bit further away.
Thus, Liu Yuxuan walked while throwing some vegetable leaves to the adult sika deer, eventually returning to the camp.
The hunting dogs, noticing the sika deer, barked loudly, and the young sika deer ran to the middle of the adult deer.
The people in the tents were woken up, thinking a fierce animal had come. When they poked their heads out of the tents and saw a group of sika deer in the distance, they quickly calmed their dogs.
"Li, how did these sika deer get here?" Michelle asked in surprise, looking at the sika deer.
"I was washing my face by the stream, and the young one followed me. The adult deer probably followed to protect the young one," Liu Yuxuan explained.
At this point, the young deer, seeing that the dogs had stopped barking and there was no danger, ran back to Liu Yuxuan for more food.
Liu Yuxuan didn't dare to take carrots out of his spatial bag. He had to pretend to take something from his backpack and took out a few cucumbers, giving one to the young deer and throwing the rest to the adult deer. He explained, "These were supposed to be for lunch today, but the sika deer get to enjoy them."
Michelle's beautiful big eyes glanced at Liu Yuxuan disapprovingly. The sika deer were so cute; what was wrong with giving them some cucumbers?
After tidying up, they had a simple breakfast of bread and coffee and planned to continue their hunting.
The sika deer, for some reason, followed Liu Yuxuan, with the young deer close by and the adult deer not far behind. They tried to drive them away twice, but they always came back.
"Li, are these sika deer planning to follow you from now on?" Michelle asked in surprise.
"It's possible," Liu Yuxuan said, scratching his head, not very sure.
"Li, your luck is really amazing. You have the biggest gain among us this time," Andre said enviously, looking at the sika deer.
They couldn't hunt the sika deer, but there was no rule against the sika deer coming to them on their own.
Because of the presence of the sika deer, they couldn't continue hunting. Liu Yuxuan led the sika deer down the mountain with the group. The adult deer were now following closely behind.
At the hunting supply store at the foot of the mountain, they contacted the local forest police to verify that the deer hadn't been hunted.
Michelle was the happiest, already holding the young deer in her arms, and the young deer let her do so.
The pickup truck's bed couldn't fit the adult deer, so they had to call for a transport truck.
Some hunters planning to enter the mountains saw this and praised Liu Yuxuan's good luck.
