Chapter 33: Just missing an opportunity

Peng Ci sobbed pitifully and struggled to hop off of An Xingzhou’s hand. Its round eyes stared at Bunny Yuan for a few seconds before it suddenly started hopping towards Bunny Yuan with its tail shaking.
An Xingzhou was going to stop it, but seeing how Peng Ci didn’t seem like it was going to cause trouble, he stopped.
Peng Ci hopped over to Bunny Yuan. It was going to rub against her to express its goodwill, but after hesitating a while, it secretly glanced at An Xingzhou and retracted its paws.
‘Men and women are different. I have to keep my distance from Bunny Yuan in front of Wife, or else Wife will be unhappy! We have to be happy together forever!’
Peng Ci retreated a little in a very vigilant manner. After confirming that there was enough of a distance between them, it said, “Bunny Yuan, teach me how to become human!”
Bunny Yuan watched Peng Ci hop back and forth in confusion, but after hearing Peng Ci’s request, she rolled her eyes.
“You can become human if you want to!” Bunny Yuan said, “Why’d you ask me something so obvious?! I haven’t become human either!”
Peng Ci stomped its feet on the sofa, retorting with “I want to become human! I really do! But I can’t!”
“Impossible. Bunny buns can all become human if they want to!” Bunny Yuan wasn’t as dumb as Peng Ci. Remembering how Peng Ci immediately delicately hopped towards An Xingzhou after coming out of the room, she thought for a while before saying, “You probably don’t have the desire to become human. It feels like you like your current state a lot and that you don’t really want to become human.”
“I do!” Peng Ci was so angry that it laid on its back and rolled around. “Don’t speak nonsense! I want to become human and be with Wife!”
While it spoke, it even snuck glances at An Xingzhou, afraid that he would get angry at it after hearing Bunny Yuan’s slander.
An Xingzhou listened very seriously, mostly because he was also curious about how bunnies became human.
“Hmm…” Bunny Yuan didn’t think that Peng Ci was lying to her—it probably hadn’t thought it through yet. So she said, “But you can be with him, even as a bunny bun. Think about what you can only do after you become human. My dad said that we have to find the reason why we must become human for the people we like, and then we’ll become human with a ‘poof!’”
Peng Ci was dumbfounded for a moment, but then it suddenly curled up its body and covered its face with its long ears. Its muffled voice drifted out from behind its ears. “Bunny Yuan, you’re so embarrassing! You said that thing that we can only do after becoming human so directly!”
“?” Bunny Yuan asked in confusion, “What did I say?”
An Xingzhou: “…”
‘So dirty minded. Can’t you just innocently satisfy my curiosity and not make me think in that direction?’
Peng Ci sent Cheshire Kitty a message to escort Bunny Yuan. Then it kicked away its phone, stuffed itself into the gap in the sofa, and started contemplating its rabbit life.
Aside from that thing, what else could it only do as a human?
Peng Ci dug into the gap, feeling more and more confused the more it thought about it. ‘And what’s the reason Bunny Yuan talked about? How can I find the reason for becoming human?!’
Peng Ci still hadn’t come up with anything when Cheshire Kitty arrived on its scooter.
Cheshire Kitty kept one paw on the scooter while expertly giving An Xingzhou the price and QR code. After seeing Peng Ci stuffed in the gap and contemplating life, Cheshire Kitty asked quietly, “What’s Ci Ci doing? Is it fun playing in the gap in the sofa?”
An Xingzhou entered his password and paid Cheshire Kitty before saying next to its ear, “Ci Ci seems to be thinking about how to become human. He was just discussing it with Bunny Yuan.”
Cheshire Kitty was closer to Peng Ci, so after hearing what An Xingzhou said, it responded. “Oh. It’s pretty normal that he can’t right now.”
An Xingzhou furrowed his eyebrows, asking in curiosity, “Why not? Why are you, a cat, so knowledgeable about the rabbit transformation process?”
“Hmph. I have friends everywhere! My professionalism is amazing, ya know?” Cheshire Kitty said, “He probably can’t find the reason why he has to become human. Ci Ci is childish and playful, so he’s much better off as a bunny.”
Glancing at An Xingzhou, Cheshire Kitty continued. “But it’s my first time seeing him like someone so much. He might really become human for you and might just be missing an opportunity.” After it finished speaking, Cheshire Kitty patted the empty space on his scooter and turned to call Bunny Yuan. “Bunny Yuan, get on! I’ll send you home! Cheshire Kitty Delivery always completes its missions!”
Bunny Yuan neatly hopped onto the scooter and asked while Cheshire Kitty was turning the scooter around, “Peng Ci, you know what being humans means for us rabbits, right?”
Peng Ci had stuffed itself into the gap in the sofa, but it could hear things clearly because its ears were outside. It replied resentfully, “I know!”
“That’s good.” Bunny Yuan patted Cheshire Kitty.
After saying its goodbyes to An Xingzhou, Cheshire Kitty stepped on its scooter and left with Bunny Yuan.
Bunny Yuan came and left, leaving only a rabbit cage behind in the very end.
An Xingzhou sighed. Remembering the eight hundred yuan that Cheshire Kitty exhorted out of him, he immediately felt so bitter that he wanted to expose Cheshire Kitty’s actual photos online.
He stuffed the rabbit cage into storage, sat back onto the sofa, and pulled Peng Ci out of the gap in the sofa.
Peng Ci was still a little depressed and sat in a daze while An Xingzhou smoothed its fur. When An Xingzhou finished, it asked, “Wife, do you want me to become human?”
An Xingzhou didn’t realize that it was a lethal question and casually answered, “No.”
As soon as Peng Ci heard it, it immediately wilted. “Sob sob… Wife doesn’t want me to become human. Is it because you don’t want to be together with me…”
F**k, he slipped up!
An Xingzhou immediately changed his answer. “Yes! Yes! I really want you to!”
“Sob sob… “ Peng Ci sobbed even harder than before. “What do I do? Will Wife dislike me for not being able to become human? Ci Ci is just a cute good-for-nothing…”
An Xingzhou: “…”
Damn it, every answer was wrong!
An Xingzhou thought, ‘You’re not just a cute good-for-nothing; you’re a huge annoyance. Please admit it!’
An Xingzhou was cursing crazily in his mind, but after seeing Peng Ci cry itself into a mess over not being unable to become human, he felt bad and reached over to pull Peng Ci into his arms. While smoothing its fur, he sighed, “You really are a little crybaby.”
“Don’t cry. Do you want to become human that badly?” An Xingzhou pinched the tips of Peng Ci’s ears and rubbed its face. “No rush, okay? I just asked Cheshire Kitty, and he said maybe you’re just missing an opportunity.”
Peng Ci’s eyes were filled with tears. Its nose twitched before it asked, “R-really?”
“Really.” An Xingzhou’s voice was extremely gentle as were his fingers running across Peng Ci’s back. “And no rush, Ci Ci can stay a bunny for now. I’ll wait for the day that the opportunity comes with you, okay?”
Peng Ci rubbed its eyes and looked at An Xingzhou while saying, “Yeah! Wife will wait with me?”
“Yep.” An Xingzhou rubbed Peng Ci while feeling a little curious as to what Bunny Yuan meant by her last words before leaving. What did becoming human mean for rabbits?
But he hadn’t had the time to ask when Peng Ci said, “Then how about you confess to me on social media, Wife? That way, no one will steal you away, like Bunny Yuan, who came home with you!”
It was unavoidable.
An Xingzhou looked up at the ceiling. He just knew that he wouldn’t be able to get out of bringing another rabbit home. Peng Ci had just been confused for a moment, but it still remembered not long after!
He sighed secretly and glanced at Peng Ci’s tear-stained face. His heart softened, and he opened his social media.
He went all in and mentioned Peng Ci’s selfie account shamelessly, posting “I’ll always be with you.”
After he posted it, he showed Peng Ci, who got happy, and took it to eat its long delayed food.
An Xingzhou left his phone next to him and didn’t notice the comment that soon got buried in the others after he posted.
@XingYuIsMine: I’ll be the one to always be with you. You’re mine, and you’ll always have to be with me too.
