His relationship with Zhang Wenqi back then wasn’t bad. She even got angry on his behalf and suggested that he went and made things clear with the girl.
Zhang Wenqi held absolute trust in Oreo. She didn’t want him to be surrounded by slanders and wanted to help him.
However, from start to finish, Oreo stood on the stage and didn’t say a single word.
The innocent had a clear consciousness. He didn’t plagiarize and that was the truth.
The entire auditorium was condemning Zhang Qin for him. He didn’t want to say anything else to Zhang Qin.
Since everyone was standing on his side, he had no need, nor did he want to step on the girl an extra few times.
Oreo’s mood was tempestuous when he noticed that Gu Xin was staring straight at him.
“What are you looking at me for?”
Gu Xin was originally looking at how he was in a trance from being deep in thought. He felt that it was pretty entertaining, but when he once again noticed his face full of wounds, he felt unwell in his heart.
Although he mentally prepared himself, when they arrived at Gu Xin’s house, Oreo finally understood what it meant to be overwhelmingly rich.
Before Oreo’s parents went to jail, although their family was well-off, they were still only an upper middle class family. It was more feasible for them to live in a condo or a villa in a quiet, upper-class neighborhood. They’ve never entered a wealthy neighborhood like this before.
Gu Xin’s parents seemed to like traditional designs. The house had carved beams and painted rafters and was furnished with antiques, but the corridors and room still leaned towards modern designs.
Gu Xin brought Oreo to the guest room and said: “Message me through WeChat if you have any questions, I’m going to eat.”
“En, okay.”
If it was him from a year ago, after seeing a place like this, he would’ve set up a grand and ambitious goal.
After the door closed, Oreo wanted to send Gu Xin a message asking if he needed to talk to his parents about the matter of him living here.
Suddenly the door was opened by Gu Xin again.
When Gu Xin closed the door and was standing outside, he thought of Oreo’s injured knees, his legs and arms covered in wounds, and the numerous bruises on his face.
His heart hurt fiercely.
When he pushed open the door, Oreo saw that he had a worried expression and his lips moved like he wanted to say something.
However, he didn’t say it in the end.
Oreo didn’t know what he wanted, so he asked: “Should I go and say hello to your parents?”
“No need, they’re usually not home.”
“Didn’t you say you were going to go eat? What’s the matter?”
“Suddenly not hungry anymore.”
Oreo didn’t continue to question him.
Oreo sat down on a chair and kept to himself as he scrolled through his phone. He clicked on a funny video.
It was a humorous dialogue between a Jamaican pair of mother and son sitting in a car.
“Mom, someone is bullying me at school.”
“Did he hit you?”
“Did.”
The plump mother frowned.
“You still have the face to say that you were hit.”
“Mom, I’m afraid ah.”
“Afraid of what?”
“That boy is very strong.”
“Do you watch the television for nothing? Haven’t you seen the movies of Chuck Norris?”
“I’ve seen them.”
“What about pro wrestling?”
“Saw it too.”
“Then why didn’t you learn them?”
“I can’t.”
The mother became angry and said:
“Charge over and beat him! You better bring his teeth to see me, and it must be his front teeth to prove that you’re a man! If I see you returning home with this pathetic appearance again, I’ll beat you again until you can defeat him! Go!”
The boy had just opened the car door when the mother pursed her lips and spoke again:
“Don’t go, wait, I was just scaring you. I don’t approve of resorting to violence, but I haven’t thought about what to do yet. Go outside, wait outside for me, and when I’ve thought it through, I’ll tell you. Useless, how can I count on you to protect me in the future? Move aside.”
The mother then called the number of the responsible boy’s guardian:
“Lin Da, I heard that your family’s child is bullying my family’s child.”
“What?”
“Your son had hit my son. Just you wait, I’ll beat you along with your son, my belt is all ready to go.”
“Why don’t you try? I’m not afraid of you.”
“A family without class, dog shit.”
“I don’t even know who the fuck are you?”
“You’ll learn who I am today. Today you’ll know which path sis mingles in. You dare to trouble me son, then don’t blame me for finding troubles with you! Come, let’s fight, name the time and place, let’s have a death match! Unless you teach that son of yours some manners, I won’t let this go, I’ll head over this instant!”
The mom who was fat but spoke so fiercely was extremely interesting to watch. The bullet screen was full of comments like: I want to mingle with this sis.
Oreo couldn’t help laughing aloud.
After he finished laughing, he became silent again.
From laughing to falling silent, he must grasp the correct tempo. It couldn’t appear unnatural.
To sell ‘pitifulness’ one shouldn’t cry but instead be silent.
Oreo raised his eyes and looked at Gu Xin.
The mother in the video spoke English but Oreo knew Gu Xin had attended elementary school abroad. Even if the Jamaican mother had a slight accent, Gu Xin would definitely be able to understand.
Gu Xin didn’t have his usual lazy and attractive smile on his face nor his cold expression that repelled people for a thousand miles.
It was a bit pale.
He looked guilty like a child who had stolen candy and was being interrogated by the teacher.
Gu Xin, take a look at how wicked you are.
Oreo got up unsteadily. He hobbled to the window, wanting to open it.
However, his hand was gripped by Gu Xin who had walked up behind him.
Gu Xin then grabbed his other hand from behind and rested his face on Oreo’s shoulder.
Oreo looked out the window and smiled softly like he hadn’t noticed Gu Xin’s approach.
Gu Xin’s hands then slid to his waist and hugged him.
You think I can’t tell?
The words you wanted to say before was:
I’m sorry.
Oreo opened the window. The warm breeze blew in and tousled his fluffy hair.
“I want to eat Oreos.” Oreo said.
Gu Xin took out a pack from his pocket. He ripped it open and placed one into Oreo’s mouth before resuming to hug him, unwilling to let go.
Because he knew Oreo liked to eat it, he always carried some around in his pocket.
Oreo used to be like the moon in the sky. The people around him revolved around him like the stars.
But Gu Xin was only ever the passerby that longed for the moonlight.
He wanted to be the only one in Oreo’s heart; to be the only one he sees.
Gu Xin’s father was a successful businessman. He would often tell Gu Xin:
To control someone, you must use unscrupulous means eight percent of the time and be kind in the other twenty percent.
People would forever remember their gratefulness towards the sole hand that reached out to them in the abyss.
But the one in the abyss didn’t know:
Perhaps that abyss had been specially dug out for them by that person.
Oreo felt Gu Xin bite him on the neck. He closed his eyes.
‘Rescue’ was only a momentary action. ‘Charity’, however, was something that could be repeated continuously.
Charity could prolong the feeling of gratefulness but rescue might not necessarily so.
That’s because ‘charity’ never resolved the root of suffering itself.
However, Gu Xin’s schemes had been lost to the gates of the city that had long opened its doors to him.
