Zhang Wei laughed coldly and left.
A notification came from Gu Xin’s phone. He opened WeChat:
Lu Hao: You went to Gardenia Alley today for a walk?
Oreo was sitting right beside Gu Xin. When he lowered his head, he inadvertently saw Lu Hao’s message.
He returned to the computer, put on his headphones, and continued to play his game.
He didn’t want to know how Gu Xin would reply.
Gu Xin: Zhang Wei is?
Lu Hao: A friend. What’s wrong?
Gu Xin: What’s up with him and Oreo?
Lu Hao: What are you asking this for?
Gu Xin: Telling or not?
Lu Hao: It’s nothing really. Do you remember Zhang Qin?
Gu Xin: Remember, from Class Six.
Why wouldn’t he remember? The reason why Class Six oppressed Oreo together with Class Five, one was because of Lu Hao’s status among the students, and two was because of Zhang Qin.
Lu Hao: Zhang Qin is Zhang Wei’s younger sister.
Oh?
What a coincidence.
Gu Xin recalled that during freshman year, there was a grade meeting. Oreo was on the stage overseeing things or maybe he gave a speech, Gu Xin couldn’t quite remember but he did remember a girl named Zhang Qin standing out from the crowd to scold Oreo.
Gu Xin hadn’t been interested in it. He had no idea what the incident was about nor did he remember what Zhang Wei had said.
However, afterward, Zhang Qin jumped off from the building.
She had jumped from the rooftop of the Teaching Building. There was no chance of her surviving.
Gu Xin was still pondering when he saw that Oreo had taken off his headphones and was looking at him.
“What’s wrong?” Gu Xin asked.
“Nothing much, but I can’t help but be curious as to what you and Lu Hao are plotting for me again.”
“Isn’t it about time you head home? You shouldn’t like staying in this kind of place.” Oreo’s smile carried a hint of apology.
“Tsk, tsk, am I a toothpick to you? Throwing me away after you’ve finished using me, you’re pretty cruel.” Gu Xin’s voice wasn’t light or teasing. It sounded very normal like he was discussing what to eat for his next meal.
“This…it can’t be that you’re planning to spend the night here?”
“Even if I don’t stay here overnight, don’t you still need to eat dinner?”
Gu Xin was puzzled. Oreo had had a low blood sugar level, showing that he hadn’t eaten breakfast or lunch. Could it be that he was going to skip dinner too?
Oreo looked at the two apples on the table and said: “I’m fortunate to have the care of the boss here, otherwise I might’ve starved to death long ago.”
“That bad?” Gu Xin raised his eyes and asked.
“What do you want, I’ll take you to eat it.”
“Young Master Gu, I don’t have any money.”
“Then Young Master Gu will provide for you. Treat it as being kept, okay?”
Oreo was genuinely curious how Gu Xin could say obscene words like this without the slightest change in his expression or voice.
“Then…I really want hot spicy soup.”
When Gu Xin walked into the hot spicy soup restaurant, Oreo was under the impression that the other was a prince who had come to experience the way of the common people.
As Oreo ate, he felt Gu Xin raising his phone. He raised his head vigilantly.
“Are you taking pictures of me?” Oreo asked as he drank a Nutri-Express with a straw.
“What, you have an addiction like Lu Hao and like to collect pictures of people when they’re in awkward situations?”
“You’re eating the hot spicy soup so deliciously. I’m taking a few photos so I can use it in the future to stimulate my appetite when I’m trying to gain weight.”
“You plan to gain weight?”
“It’s difficult for me, I’m too thin.”
“I’m done eating. I’m going back to the internet cafe now, you should also go home. Thank you for your hospitality.”
“You’re not going home?”
“If I go home, I’ll have to put up with their attitudes. When I wander outside, it makes them happy, so why go back?”
“Yo, what a rebellious teenager you are, staying out all night long.”
“Young Master Gu, ‘rebellious’ is too luxurious of a word for me.”
“Then come home with me.”
“No need, thank you.”
“No need to thank me. Since your legs are still injured, I’ll call the driver over.”
Oreo had stubbornly walked down the stairs in the internet cafe and after walking from the internet cafe to the hot spicy soup restaurant, he felt like his old legs mustn’t be tossed around anymore, otherwise, it might really be done for.
Oreo really was an unlucky person. He stood up and only managed to shakingly walk two steps when, due to the oil on the floor of the hot spicy soup restaurant, he slipped and fell flat on the floor.
“Bro, can your poor legs hold up?” Gu Xin stood by the side and asked.
Oreo felt that he was pathetic. As he crawled up, Gu Xin crouched down in front of him and said: “The car is right outside, how about I carry you for a few steps.”
So scary.
Gu Xin, don’t be like this.
In the car, Oreo saw that someone had requested to be friends with him on WeChat. The verification message was: I’m Luo Ya.
Luo Ya: You there?
Oreo: En, what’s wrong.
Luo Ya: Are you alright?
Oreo: Not bad.
Luo Ya: The other girls in class talked to me today through WeChat. They told me about the story of the girl who jumped from the building and died.
Oreo: En.
Luo Ya: Then can I ask you, how are you related to that matter?
Oreo: There is no relation.
Luo Ya: They all say that before she jumped, you plagiarized her manuscript.
Oreo: I didn’t.
Oreo thought back to a scorching hot afternoon.
The heat in the auditorium made people feel irritable.
He was the host of the grade meeting but he stood backstage and watched as the student in charge of IT presented the power points of the events.
The speaker said: “Perhaps a literary master can emerge from our school.”
“The champion for this time’s National Books Cup Classic came from our school, and this person is currently the youngest person to ever win the championship. The Chairman of our school is flying over from the headquarters to personally give the honorary reward to this student who may very well sit at the top of the literary circle in the future.”
The students below them grew excited. Their campus was a branch under the XX Corporation and the school’s chairman rarely came to their district to observe their campus. This is their first time seeing the chairman.
“This student is Oreo of Year One, Class Five.”
Oreo heard music being played on the speaker and walked onto the stage. He shook hands with the Principal who smiled amiably to him and spoke with a slight southern accent: “Child, you are very outstanding.”
Back then his interpersonal relations weren’t bad, and his grades and looks were also excellent among his peers. The entire auditorium sounded with warm applause for him.
But that girl suddenly stood out from the audience.
Her body was shaking as she said: “Bastard! How could you plagiarize my manuscript?”
“You’re a thief.”
She said a few more unpleasant words before the homeroom teacher of Class Six paled and pulled the girl back to her seat but that girl grew increasingly violent.
She struggled free from the homeroom teacher’s hand. The homeroom teacher of Class Six was truly angered and began to reprimand her on the spot.
“Zhang Qin, sit down! Stop causing a scene in front of everyone.”
The Principal and Oreo were still on the stage. The Principal was a very gentle person, he asked: “Child, calm down, what’s the matter?”
The Principal of the middle school campus looked at the homeroom teacher of Class Six. The homeroom teacher of Class Six shivered. Zhang Qin continued to yell: “His work that won an award was plagiarized off of mine.”
The auditorium was in an uproar.
Oreo’s writing was considered phenomenal throughout the entire school—no, throughout the entire district and city. Everybody knew that.
Meanwhile, Zhang Qin was an unknown person that normally flew under the radar.
“Zhang Qin, is there something wrong with you?”
“Hurry and sit down.”
“You’re being inconsiderate, won’t you see where we’re at?”
“Do you want to win an award so badly that you’ve gone crazy?”
The students began to attack Zhang Qin with their words. Zhang Qin wailed even more bitterly: “I was really the one who wrote it, it’s really me. Believe me, okay?”
The Principal walked off stage. His expression was troubled and the principal of the middle school campus was even more so.
The Principal asked: “Did something happen in your department?”
The principal of the middle school campus was a bit at a loss with the situation. He called the homeroom teacher of Class Six over.
The homeroom teacher of Class Six said meekly: “That student has always wanted to win the award. She entered a few times but didn’t manage to perform very well so she’s been under a lot of pressure.”
Truthfully, the homeroom teacher of Class Six had no idea what was going on but under the eyes of the school’s executives, Zhang Qin must carry this pot first.
