Poison of the Human Panacea: Chapter 51

Bai Tan suddenly felt utterly humiliated. He struggled out of his arms right away, but unexpectedly saw that Pori Ax had fallen into the other’s hand without him knowing. Not waiting until the severely injured people were carried off the ring, he used a killing move on Wu Yanfu. It was a copy of the move from “Nineteen Changes of Hell” that he’d just taught him. Wu Yanfu instantly performed “Wu Feng Nong Yue” to dodge, yet the clothing on his chest still ripped from the blade’s wind, his flesh was in unstoppable, scorching pain. He glanced at his own chest, a bloody mark appeared in his sight, as expected, it was almost exactly the same as the one on that Kong Xing Sect monk’s chest, his heart had sunk to the bottom……

And how wouldn’t he recognize wounds his own weapon left?

With a weapon like Shiyue, who knew its master so well[1], Si You definitely couldn’t have used it, so the unambiguous evidence was right in front of their eyes.

“I* only accidentally hurt that person when trying to kill Si You back there!”

Bai Tan’s hoarse cry of reason drowned within the discussion noises, making it seem negligible.

I didn’t! I didn’t! I didn’t! He was extremely angered at that moment, the blood in his meridian flowed in reverse. It felt like his heart was about to explode. He couldn’t suppress the turbulent-like, murderous desire that’d been gushing out, he just wanted to destroy both the sky and ground, to perish with everyone. He jumped straight onto the head of the Buddha statue placed on top of the ring before filling his hand with neili. Staring at the Kong Xing Sect monks with the most reactions in both voices and expressions, he used “Zhu Tian Hua Mo Zhang” to sharply brush past the blade.

In an instant, the sound of a ground-shaking ring shot fiercely right through the clouds. It struck straight towards the few Kong Xing Sect monks in front of the gate. Wu Yanfu’s expression quickly changed. With a swing of his arm, the long rope wrapped onto the great drum like a snake and pulled it in front of those monks to block the lethal hit. But the surface of the sturdy drum was seen to be dented, those monks still flew out the gate from the shock. Even the dragon head-shaped gate fell from it!

Wu Yanfu leaped up, landing on the Buddha’s shoulder. Bai Tan had gone mad from killing, upon seeing him coming up, without any words said, he used another move. The strong wind busted half of the Buddha’s shoulder into pieces. Wu Yanfu turned to land on the Buddha’s hand, barely avoiding it, yet his organs hurt from the shock. Both of his ears rung, even with the Pori Ax in hand, it was still a very strenuous battle. He couldn’t help but regret teaching too much to the little wolf cub before.

At that moment, an extremely clear thought popped up…… he absolutely couldn’t allow him to keep his martial skills.

Or else, a catastrophe would be caused sooner or later.

But as Wu Yanfu dodged left and right, he still couldn’t close in on Bai Tan, “Bai Tan! To fight to the death on the ring is allowed, but doing it off the ring is against the rules, it will make the whole Wu Lin see you as an enemy!”

Bai Tan stood on the Buddha’s head, looking down at everyone else. Then he laughed madly for a bit, “The world belittled me, shamed me, saw me as an evildoer. What’s the difference between that and seeing me as their enemy?! What am I* afraid of? I’m* not afraid of death or the gods! What if I* oppose the skies, be presumptuous and go against the rules?! What I’m* aiming for is a moment of pleasure!”

Once finished, he cut off the Buddha’s head with one strike of his blade, raising a round of surprised cries. He jumped into the air and flew straight towards the dome. He landed on the golden cover above the Buddha’s head that hung from the dome, to which he found a pair of Gandharva[2] statues in the cover’s center. An offering plate was held on the statues’ four hands, a fiery red bead, the size of a fist was placed on the offering plate. He immediately understood that this bead must be the legendary blood relic that only the Wu Lin Overlord could have. It was the same as the one he’d dug out of Wu Yanfu’s heart. It was rumored that once one consumed the blood relic, they would be able to hear the god’s presage and their neili would instantly increase sevenfold. Cang Long City’s “Awakened Ones”, who couldn’t die or be annihilated, would identify the one who swallowed the blood relic as the Sakra God, following their orders and could be dispatched by them.

Bai Tan chuckled coldy, sensing that victory was in sight, he jumped to the center of the cover, aiming to take that blood relic.

Upon the sight, many people within the building yelled concernedly, yet they were also afraid of Bai Tan, so no one dared to move forward.

The broken Buddha head crashed onto the ring, letting out an enormous, deafening sound. It was as if Buddha was mourning deeply, it rang through the sky and land, enough to take light away from the sun and moon, and make thousands of creatures wither away.

At this time, many people begin to remember the prophecy that’d started spreading at some unknown time, predicting that during the coming of Solar Devouration, a calamity would descend into this world, a monster would be born, and the hell’s gate would be opened. They all coincidentally connected the monster to the white-clothed, insufferably arrogant young male who stood on the cover.

How could Wu Yanfu allow him to steal the blood relic? He jumped off the Buddha’s broken neck onto the cover but saw that Bai Tan had already reached his hand out towards the blood relic. Just as it looked like he was about to succeed, the two Gandharva statues reacted from the sound. They swung their waist as they danced, the four hands that formed into a lotus shape moved fast enough to create after-images, protecting the blood relic within them. No matter how Bai Tan kept using different skills, striking, pulling, chopping, cutting, wiping, he couldn’t break through the barrier.

“You think the blood relic can be obtained that easily?” Wu Yanfu squinted his eyes, he landed behind him with one lunge. At this point, Bai Tan was already a starving beast, he merely thought the other was here to fight for the item that could fulfill his hunger, which he was so close to. In a hurry, he bluntly and harshly stabbed Shiyue horizontally into the gap between the four Gandharva hands. He stocked up all the neili in his body to turn and struck a palm towards the person behind him, while his other hand used that time to snatch the blood relic off of the offering plate.

When Wu Yanfu forcefully met palm to palm with him, the web between his thumb and index was in piercing pain from the shock, the taste of blood surged up to his throat. He couldn’t help but mock himself: ever since he’d stepped into the Western Wu Lin Overlord position, he hadn’t met a worthy opponent in over ten years. It was even the same during the three times he’d traveled through the central plain. Now that he’d finally met one, it happened to be one he’d let out of his own pond. Under this kind of circumstance, it truly was satirical to the extreme.

While Shiyue stopped the four Gandharva hands, Bai Tan grabbed the blood relic in one go. When Wu Yanfu saw this and immediately lunged to snatch, but then, the sorrowful sound of a flute suddenly rang out. Followed by a black shadow flashing under the cover, a long, thin ghost vine wrapped around Bai Tan’s wrist with lighting speed. Bai Tan only felt the striking pain from his wrist joints and couldn’t hold onto the burning item within his hand. Allowing it to roll out.

Wu Yanfu used clone art but didn’t care to fight for the blood relic. He cut through the vines that were wrapped around Bai Tan’s wrist with one strike and saw the Gu Ren attacking with his claws out. He quickly pushed the other into his arms for protection, then his face felt cold, his mask had been hit off. A face fully wrapped in bandages had Bai Tan instantly stunned from the shock.

At this time, Wu Yanfu hadn’t let Yan Ruyu sculpt his new face yet. So he could only apply anti-fermenting medicine, wrap it up tightly with bandages, and wear this ice-cold mirror mask to preserve the skin. With the mask off, his whole face seemed extremely creepy. Plus, his skin and flesh hadn’t grown together completely and it was scratched open. As the blood seeped out of his skin, it hurt hundreds of times more than having skin peeled, but his endurance level was shocking, to where he only showed pain through the protruding neck veins of his.

Bai Tan quickly pushed him away, as if he’d seen a monster, and backed away a few steps.

Wu Yanfu turned around pathetically, he picked up the mask to put on again, not wanting the other to see him like that for another moment.

Yet Bai Tan didn’t have the time to focus on him, he chased close after the Gu Ren, flipping out of the roof window of the dome top. The Gu Ren climbed onto one of the dragon heads with the blood relic between his teeth, so he also followed to jump onto the Dragon Gate and climbed onto a dragon’s back.

Night had already fallen by this time, dark clouds capped the sky, and violent winds blew. There were no stars or moon, the sky was dim, the land was dark.

Bai Tan could barely kept his body steady as he slowly inched towards the Gu Ren. Wu Yanfu leaped and landed behind the Gu Ren, forming a front and back attack. Suddenly, a roaring thunder cry came from the sky, lightning immediately ripped through the dark clouds, and a rainstorm came down without any prior warning. The Gu Ren growled once, his whole body let out “kah-kah” sounds of bones cracking and his figure shot up by three feet. His eyes burned, fangs grew from his mouth as sharp claws grew from his hands, he seemed just as terrifying as the statue of Asura. He arched his back before abruptly pouncing towards Bai Tan.

“Dodge!” Wu Yanfu sliced towards him, making a “clang” sound, it was as if the ax was striking adamant armor. Not even a peerless weapon like Pori could harm this Gu Ren at all, it was definitely different from last time. Bai Tan gathered his neili and chopped the top of the Gu Ren’s head, but the other turned his head to bite the blade with his fangs, causing him to swallow the blood relic that was kept between his teeth down into the stomach. Suddenly, from head to toe, his ghost vines expanded and shot out countless tiny insects.

“Watch out for those Gu Insects, don’t let them enter your body!”

Bai Tan pulled his hook away to avoid it. Only after backing up a few steps did he see that the Gu Ren had swallowed the blood relic, then he knew there was no hope of obtaining it anymore. The single straining string in his brain instantly broke, right then, all his ambitions crumbled to dust. He couldn’t suppress the reverse flow of blood anymore. He violently vomited out a mouthful of fresh blood, then his body titled, with a misstep, he fell down.

Wu Yanfu was greatly shocked, with a lunge, by the edge of the dragon body, his hand reached to grab onto the end of the youth’s clothing. Yet, he saw the other raise Shiyue and swing, with a flash of the blade, his clothing instantly sheared off. The dainty figure in white descended lightly, like a kite with a broken string, merely wishing for death. Wu Yanfu went against the violent wind when he jumped down. Staring at the youth who had his arms open, falling rapidly. He felt just like he was catching a tiny, little fish from a vicious sea. But if he were to make a mistake and lose it, no matter if he went up to heaven or sought down in hell[3] for the rest of his life, it would be difficult to ever catch it again.

He used all his effort to grasp onto the youth’s raven hair before pulling the other into his embrace in midair. The youth started to struggle as hard as he could, Wu Yanfu clenched his teeth and held onto him extremely tight, then flipped to crash through a window.

Wu Yanfu let out a breath before lowering his head to observe carefully, his unstoppable thumping heart throbbed brutally once again.

Faint blood veins appeared on the cheeks of the youth in his arms, his sharp phoenix eyes that glared at him were flooded with the color of blood and his lips were turning purple. It was obvious he’d gone into Qi Deviation. It wasn’t known if he’d already lost his sanity and fallen into madness.

“Scram! Scram!” Bai Tan screamed and shouted, his mind was in chaos. When he raised Shiyue to swing towards the other’s throat, his wrist was held tightly, with a pinch on the web between his thumb and index, Shiyue instantly fell to the ground. Then he swung his hand again, slapping towards the mask the person above him wore. Wu Yanfu avoided it by turning his head, he pressed onto his shoulder to lock him to the ground. Moving his hand at lighting speed, he sealed a few of his acupoints as he left a hand free to pull out a golden needle and pierce his meridian. Then he pulled him up, his palm covered the Way of the Spirit Point on his back, and passed pure energy in to help clean his meridians.

Bai Tan bit onto his shoulder then shook his head left and right, letting out growls just like a frenzied beast cub. His teeth tore right through the skin and flesh. Once he tasted the sweet medical blood, he sucked with even more force, as sloppy noises rang out.

Wu Yanfu clasped his waist tightly and pressing against his ear, he muttered softly, as if chanting, “Tan’er, drink slowly, you can drink as much as you want. The blood in master’s body is enough to drink for the rest of your life.”

Bai Tan just hugged his arm, buried his head, and drank the blood, he couldn’t hear what he was saying. Wu Yanfu touched his head with some disappointment, squeezed his earlobe, and held the other even tighter.

“Just because you couldn’t become the Wu Lin Overlord, you didn’t want to live anymore? What a fierce temper. But your life was picked back by this master, even if you wish to die, it’ll have to be permitted by this master. Don’t you dare decide by yourself, understand?”

Naturally, Bai Tan didn’t nod or shake his head, what answered him was the “gulp gulp” sound of swallowing.

“You didn’t say no, then this master will take it that you agreed.”

“Tan’er, this master… likes you so much. Even if nobody in the world can tolerate you, this master will still protect you. For your past misdeeds, this master will also not blame you, but your martial skills definitely can’t be kept.”

Xiao’s Comments: I understand why Bai Tan’s so mad, but his actions aren’t helping so I can also understand why Wu Yanfu would think that it’s best to get rid of his martial arts…

[1] “Who knows…so well,” (弑月如此认主的兵器) – Lit. translation. A weapon knowing its master it’s a common saying in these Wuxia genres. A high-leveled weapon usually has what you could call ‘spirit’ in them, and while usually anyone could use the weapon, they can’t bring out its potential (special skills and such) if they’re not powerful enough, or isn’t its master/someone that has used it for a long time.

[2] Gandharva statues (飞天雕像) – an image that I found that seem to suit the scene: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy/AGmK9actkq1JIm_-0_bj3mrXXE5Q0df8tTvppG30GIuXo5LcjExIZx8gaZNcP8SGKIuCMYFxlmdR8hM4iIGhCIOCnhBr_QY01iKbXtJ1tLOe4XgGGHUgtGcldEywIg
