Chapter 1 Final Plan

Wu Fei’s life on first twenty-three years has been smooth sailing …

At the age of 16, he enrolled in one of the top schools nationwide and at the age of 20, he graduated from university and entered the gaming industry as a game designer. It was also happened to be a boiling period of domestic mobile games, after a successful project, like an average person he has owned a car and a house in a first-tier city by the time he graduated.

However from the beginning to the end God was always fair, everything including his good luck was fully returned as he turned twenty-three. He encountered a car accident.

He was working overtime at the company that day to catch up the new release. He didn’t drive back to home until after 1 p.m. and when he was about to make a turned, he didn’t notice there was a truck coming from the other side.

Maybe God still loved him, even though his car had been destroyed beyond recognition in the accident and he was stuck in the driver’s seat, but unexpectedly he was lucky to be able to keep his life, only to fall into a coma, and by the time he opened his eyes again, it was already three years later.

Wu Fei laid on the hospital bed and looked at his mother who was obviously looked much older and tired. She couldn’t stop sobbing and opening her mouth. Somehow he couldn’t react … unexpectedly three years has passed just after he closed his eyes?

What was even more unacceptable to him was that in just three years as he opened his eyes, the whole world had totally changed.

The whole world, from head to tail has practically become something so unfamiliar to him.

Not long after the car accident, staff member from the Central Administration of the Universe came to Earth.

There are many civilized planets in the whole universe. According to the classification of the Central Administration of the Universe, these civilizations were divided into five levels: the initial civilization was the first level civilization, the information civilization has become the second level civilization after being developed to a certain extent, the long-distance travel and communication capability in the universe was considered as a third level civilization, the intelligence information was highly developed and the breakthrough in life science and technology was the fourth level civilization, the last was the fifth level civilization.

The Universe Convention stipulated non-interference rule with the development of first-level civilization, however the second-level civilization were welcomed to take the initiative or be invited to join the Universe Union and interact with other planets in term of trade, science and technology, etc. Initially Earth was now in the second-level civilization, so after it was discovered by a third-level civilization planet’s exploratory spaceship, someone from the Central Administration of the Universe soon came to Earth and asked about their intentions to join the Universe Union.

After the initial shock, after a series of consideration on the pros and cons, every country has reached a consensus and chose to join the Universe Union under the recommendation of the fourth level civilization, Planet Dirk.

This was followed by the introduction of the Universe’s advanced technology and knowledge, the thoughts, cognition, and lifestyle of the human race on Earth changed dramatically. After Wu Fei had woken up, he still needed to recuperate and undergo rehabilitation in the hospital, still feeling inconceivable as he digested all this changes on his hospital bed.

With the help of Planet Dirk, the awareness of holographic networks was firmly established, gaining rapid popularity in the information technology especially in the developed countries on Earth. Right now people can use their consciousness to access holographic networks for shopping, entertainment, etc.

However Earth’s own internet content wasn’t sufficient enough, the most popular on Earth right now were mostly games and movies that were recommended by other planets.

The hospital used the most advanced rehabilitation equipment, it was said that this new technology was only available in the advanced stages of second-level civilization which can help patients rehabilitate, while at the same time patients can access holographic networks for relaxation and entertainment. He took the opportunity to learn a lot of new knowledge and due to his previous job he had the habit to experience the games of alien civilizations, the immersive and realistic experience made him to be completely astonished, always suspecting that he had accidentally traveled to the future.

His rehabilitation was going well and he completely didn’t aware of the changes around him … until he woke up early one morning and heard his mother was borrowing money from her friend on the phone where the result was maybe something unsatisfactory. After his mother hung up the phone she was sobbing while whispering, as if afraid to disturb him, her voice sounded very unreal.

In a flash, Wu Fei felt like he had been hit face-to-face.

His whole family was really happy when he woke up, these days his parents were fond of eating and drinking[1] as they were taking good care of him, encouraging him to be positive and to recover as quickly as possible. He was so immersed to understand about these upsetting changes in his life that he did not notice his mother’s forced smile and the deep shadow in his father’s brow.

Under his careful observation and sideways stroke, he quickly learned about his family’s current situation: his family was just an ordinary working family in a third-tier city with not much of savings. Afterwards the savings were mostly used to subsidize the purchase of his house. Then the accident happened and they he needed a large sum of money for the treatment. At that time his school alumni and company colleagues organized donations but after all the money from donation and insurance was limited. His car was completely destroyed in the accident and his parents sold his house in the first-tier city to pay for his treatment which means currently there was only some money left.

Even though his life wasn’t in danger but he fell into a coma and they need to pay minimal 10.000 yuan per day to lie in the hospital ward to continue his life support treatment. Thus his parents sold their house in their hometown once again. His father continued to work, he worked during the day then take orders, renting a small house near his workplace while his mother stayed in the hospital to take care of him.

Even so it was not enough to support the high cost of treatment with his father’s salary of a few thousands a month, so his parents began to borrow money from all the relatives and friends who could, but then there were several closer relatives and friends who avoided them.

Both doctors and nurses tactfully advised his parents to give up his treatment and save some money for their old age. However, his parents refused as they bite their teeth tightly insisted to continue his treatment.

By the time he woke up, his family was already carrying a debt of nearly ten million yuan. For a lot of people, this amount of money probably didn’t count for much, but for him, he didn’t think that ten million yuan was an unattainable number. But currently for such an ordinary family where only his father was working, that amount of money was like a big mountain on top of their heads, not only the interest was too much for them to bear but also the sympathy of their relatives and friends.

Let alone his current rehabilitation treatment cost which wasn’t a small amount.

He couldn’t sit still after learning about his family’s situation and told his parents during dinner, “Dad, Mom, I’m almost recovered. There is no problem on my mobility and I could walk like normal now, there is no need to continue the rehab. I’m going to get a job and work out on my own during the day.”

The everyday cost of hospitalization as he lived in the hospital alone was not small.

His father looked at him as if he could read his mind and said, “The doctor said that after half a month you’ll be able to fully recovered, so don’t save a little only to lose a lot.”

His mother also slightly frowned and looked at him worriedly, ”Fei Fei, just take good care of your rehab, you don’t have to worry about things at home. Me and your dad are okay.”

He didn’t insist, but started to use the holographic networks to get a job while recovering.

If the world hadn’t changed so drastically, he was confident that with his education, work experience, knowledge, and work capability, he could quickly find a suitable job even after three years of being wasted. But the development in those three years were too fast, even though he was learning to keep up to date, it was still difficult for him to meet job requirements in a short period of time, some of the positions did not require a lot but the salary and developmental space offered did not meet his expectations.

He quickly made alternative plans in his mind, if there was no other choice, first he could find a job with less requirements, to slightly alleviate his parents’ burden while learning the industries’ needs and waiting for an opportunity to find a better job.

Then he sent a message to classmates and colleagues he used to have good relationships with, asking if there were any job opportunities for him. His old mobile phone had long since broken down and the nowadays “mobile phones” are all watch-style called “Xin Xi Watch[2]“, which can support and link with holographic networks, so the big screen was naturally eliminated.

Even though it was difficult at home, his mother bought him a 3,000 yuan Xin Xi Watch from the Internet as soon as he woke up. He has wasted some time before he was able to retrieve some of his friends’ contact information from his old mobile phone number.

Wang She was Wu Fei’s college roommate. He had been a great help to his family for the past three years. He already knew his current situation and with no courtesy he thought to mention it to him, “Wu Fei, do you want to try to participate in the Final Plan?”

“… What’s the final plan?” He remembered that he seemed to have heard it mentioned on holographic networks but he didn’t pay attention to it.

Seeing that he was interested, Wang She told him about all the information he had learned.

Nowadays there are three fourth-level civilization planets, twenty-eight third-level civilization planets, one hundred and fifty-seven second-level civilization planets, and more than a thousand discovered first-class civilization planets on the list of the Central Administration of the Universe. But there was once a fifth-level civilization in the universe, this fifth-level civilized planet was far away from all the other planets, and none of other civilization planets dared to rashly approach it, only knew that its technology level was far higher than the fourth-level civilization.

The present-day Central Administration of the Universe had shown initiative and established a joint call with three planets that were the first to develop to the fourth-level civilization about the reason why the record and knowledge of the fifth-level civilization was so limited.

Just half a century ago, however, this fifth-level civilization suddenly fell away, closing down the entire planet as prohibit other to approach it, with no more life signals transmitted by the planet, leaving only a vast information database.

This information file was called “Final Plan” by the people of fifth-level civilization and after this fifth-level civilization fell from the sky, the holographic networks of other civilizations can also linked and entered into this final plan. The entire “Final Plan” was like a large-scale of virtual reality world with countless levels, and it is said that the first one to pass the fifth-level civilization will be able to obtain the advanced technology, advanced weapons and its equipment, and even the resources and wealth accumulated by this entire civilization.

The final plan can only be accessed by individual, with no limit on the number of people who can access it, and no threshold for entry. Thus, since its emergence, all forces and people above the second-level civilization have rushed liked ducks. “The Final Plan was similar to a large-scale game where you can also acquire virtual money if you participate in it. The virtual wealth could make yourself stronger in the game or you can exchange it into real money, and you can also exchange the real money you put in the game into virtual money.

“If you’re interested, there’s a ‘Final Plan’ special division online, there is some introduction and guidance on the live streaming’s participants. You can learn about it in advance.”

“But you have to think about it carefully because there are also some risks: the first was that each person only has one chance to participate before they reached the gold level, you couldn’t log out in this process, if you quit then it mean you have given up. The second was if you suffered an attack in the game then it may also cause an actual damage to the participants in reality, at the beginning of the year there was a very famous live streaming’s participant shot by his opponent in the brain during the showdown, as a result he was also brain dead in reality. It’s a small probability event, but it was also pretty dangerous.”

Wu Fei got some preliminary information from Wang She. He was interested, after thanking the other party, he directly went to the universe online to look for more information about the final plan.

The participation process of the ‘Final Plan’ was simulcast to the entire universe. Because of these two reasons, many people who have participated in the final plan but have been eliminated had no way to participate in it again, as well as those who were interested in it but didn’t want to participate in it themselves, like to watch the live streaming of the final plan, and also reward the live broadcasters to support them.

These were very close to his understanding as he used to work in the gaming industry and naturally already had the knowledge about live game streaming. From his understanding, the final plan was also currently a large-scale virtual reality game.

He casually entered a Final Plan’s live room. This room’s anchor had just passed the resting room and was preparing to start a new level.

He then saw the anchor push open a door after passing the resting room, and countless streams of information swept across the large black screen behind the door, finally revealed three key words: firearms, common, survival.

In the final plan, each level was randomly generated and the participants were in varying numbers and levels.

The anchor looked very humorous and exaggerated a lot of prayer gestures after seeing the results, and the amused viewers continuously leaving a comment, betting that he will definitely be eliminated this time.

By his side, he was followed by a silent taciturn, a middle-aged man who was always silent, a contractor who assisted him, essentially a data-built virtual intelligence rather than a real person.

Then the anchor was surrounded by a white light and after his vision became clear again he had appeared in an open field.

The anchor foolishly froze for a moment, then turned his head to his unseen audience and smiled, “Everyone, I already know the target of this mission. On this map, I just need to live until the seventh day. However, the resources are limited, hmmm … so It seems that I need to compete with other participants to fight for resources, being careful not to get robbed is the key.”

Wu Fei’s eyes lit up when he saw it, wasn’t this level just like the survival game he remembered?

He watched this anchor’s action for a little while then continued to look at many live streaming on other levels. He got the feeling that each level seemed to have a different type of genre and as a game designer, even though technically he was not that good compared to a pro in each genre but he knew most of the game genres. In other words, he could play everything.

The game was actually like the designer constantly giving players some theme and giving players the thrill of solving them. As a designer for this kind of theme, it wouldn’t be so difficult for him to find the solutions.

As he watched the live streaming, he found that the virtual money obtained by those anchors after they passed each level was also quite a lot. A popular and distinctive anchor could also get additional money rewards which at least more than the income that he could get from the job he could find at the moment.

The more he felt that this path was feasible for him. As for the two concerns that Wang Zhe said … he could completely disregard them.

He didn’t want his parents to worry, so he accompanied them back to his hometown after he finished his rehab.

To pay for his medical bills, his family’s previous spacious and comfortable three-bedroom house had been sold and his parents rented a small apartment which made his eyes sore.

After helping his parents settle down, he directly said that a senior brother had opened a game company in Ning Cheng and asked him to go over and help him out. The monthly salary was okay and he has prepared to go over to work.

Although his parents were reluctant to part with him but they also didn’t doubt him, and sent him away after repeatedly telling him to pay attention to his own safety.

However, as a matter of fact, naturally there wasn’t any senior brother opened a game company in Ning Cheng. He was planning to come here to participate in the final plan.

Ning Cheng was a second-tier city, but the cultural and entertainment industry was relatively booming while the consumption level was not too high. It was because of those reasons that he chose this place.

Entering the ‘Final Plan’ program meant that his body will be immobile for a long time so he will have to lived in a special virtual capsule in order to prevent any physical problems.

This virtual capsule contains nutrients that will give him essential nutrients and keep his body vitality. But the nutrients would only work if his body was conscious.

Currently he didn’t have any extra money to buy a virtual capsule. He’s also not sure how long he’ll last in the final plan – the holographic networks on Earth has just recently became popular, the most powerful Earth participants – the ones who were the first to enter the final plan and haven’t been eliminated yet – have been in the final plan for less than a year, so it’s not wise to directly invest in a virtual capsule.

The good thing was that most of the more advanced “Internet Café” nowadays have a few virtual capsules.

It’s great and he could even save money on rent and meals, so although the rental price was costly but it’s still a good deal overall.

The internet café’s shop assistant helped him rent the virtual capsule and started to link his bank’s account. Afterwards the everyday cost of the virtual capsule would be automatically debited from his bank’s account, and automatically gave him the supplementary nutrients. If he no longer had any money on his bank’s account then forcedly shut off his virtual capsule server and his holographic networks’ link, and if he hasn’t reached the gold level so if he quit, then it meant giving up.

His parents have given him some money when he left. He had calculated and it was enough for him to pay the capsule rental for ten days, so he had to make money from the final plan within ten days.

“What game are you planning to play?” The shop assistant helped Wu Fei configure the capsule’s initial environment. He was experienced and he could estimate the required game period for all games that was currently on the market.

“I’m going to play Final Plan.” Wu Fei smiled.

The shop assistant was stunned then nodded, “Good luck then.”

There were quite a few customers who participated in the Final Plan in their café, the shortest period he’s ever seen was fifteen minutes, and the most powerful one could persist for around for a month. So it was nothing unusual for him.

Wu Fei nodded, he watched the virtual capsule slowly closed on top of his head then he closed his eyes.

His consciousness entered the holographic networks, but he didn’t just strolling around this time, simply went straight to the Final Plan Center to request his access to the Final Plan.
