Chapter 33 of 85
chapter 32

By the time Huo Ran ran out of the classroom, he found that Kou Chen had already made his way down a whole level and just as he was wondering whether or not he should slide down along the handrail, Kou Chen leapt up directly.
Swoosh——
He’d passed an entire flight of stairs and landed in front of the staircase on the first floor.
He hadn’t even needed the supplementary motion of supporting himself on the ground with his hand; the instant he landed, his foot stepped out and with that, he charged out of the classroom building.
Of course, the primary reason for undertaking such a method to make his way down the stairs was definitely because he was worried about Old Yuan.
But in Huo Ran’s opinion, it also had something to do with how a number of people had come out of Humanities Classes 3 and 4. Using this sort of attention-grabbing method to land in front of a group of females…
Was a little more suave as compared to people like him, who slid down the handrail.
Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh, swoosh, swoosh.
Huo Ran turned back for a look: everyone had amazing mimicking capabilities; after he’d slid down along the handrail, Xu Zhifan and the others who were following behind him all made their appearances in the same fashion.
There were even other boys from their class behind them.
Sliding down the handrail one after another.
With that, the scene instantly became a lot grander.
To the extent where, after they’d run out of the classroom building, cheers and applause sounded from behind them.
Huo Ran genuinely thought that their seven-man group could just about make their celebrity debut.
Old Yuan’s office was on the second floor, but by the time they got to the first floor, they could already hear shouts clearly.
One woman was shouting: “Don’t be so rash! Stop right now! Don’t hit anymore, don’t hit anymore!”
A man was roaring, but what he was roaring about was unclear.
And there was the director’s resonant voice: “Call the cops! Call security! Suffer the consequences if you don’t stop!”
When Huo Ran got up to the second floor, he saw that Kou Chen was already two-three meters away from the office and a few students were standing around in the corridor, all raising their phones up and filming the inside of the office.
Two of them even had excited grins from ‘watching a show’.
Huo Ran took unkindly to these sorts of people for no reason but just as he was about to curse them out, Kou Chen, who was running past them, had already raised his arm and sent it out.
Pitter patter.
Three phones drop onto the ground.
“What are you doing!” one of them roar in fury.
“Shut up and scram for laozi!” Huo Ran points at him when he runs past him.
The group of people from Humanities Class 1 behind him pass them by aggressively and the few of them go quiet immediately, not even picking their phones up right away.
The office was in chaos; Kou Chen was unable to locate Old Yuan at a glance after rushing in and only knew that everyone was amassed in front of his office desk, and there were even two female teachers in the crowd.
By the looks of this, he knew instantly that there was definitely not just one person beating Old Yuan up.
“Old Yuan!” Kou Chen shouts.
“Kou Chen! None of you be rash!” it was surprising that even at this time, Old Yuan could remember to hear and identify him, deduce that he was not alone and remind them to not be rash.
Kou Chen charges in without a bit of hesitance, identifies a man that was currently being tugged by female Teacher A and grabs him by the back of his collar, giving a ruthless yank.
With regards to what Old Yuan had said, how do they deal with him* without being impulsive once!?
[*tl note: a little unsure about this one, the him here refers to the guy. alternate reading could be “how could they be worthy of him (old yuan)” but ‘be worthy of’ isn’t too accurate imo… it’s more like ‘not not let him down’ (which is strange, but ‘not not let him down’ =/= ‘let him down’….. does this make sense]

追声与循途/Chasing You and I’m Home is now updating here! Summary: Mu Kang thought that he would waste his life like he already had, making a living by writing music for TV…
A man that was still swinging his fists was dragged right out of the crowd by him.
“Punch him!” a woman’s suppressed voice says.
Kou Chen was momentarily at a loss. Apart from the female family member that had already retreated to the entrance, there were only two female teachers in the office and this voice was very close to him. It was likely the female Teacher A that was part of the struggle earlier, Teacher Xiaosun who took them for politics.
“Go away!” Teacher Xiaosun gives this man that had been dragged out a hard shove.
Teacher Xiaosun’s fighting prowess was evidently too weak; not only did this shove have no impact whatsoever, it had shoved the man into revealing an enraged expression. He raised his hand and sent it flying towards her face.
“Fuck you!” Kou Chen smashes a fist towards his face.
The man’s head is flung to one side along with the weight of his body, and after stumbling a number of steps, he trips over his own twisted feet and falls onto the ground.
“What’s going on! Old Yuan!” Huo Ran’s group rush into the office, shouting.
“Pull them apart!” Teacher Xiaosun starts shouting as soon as she sees that a whole group of helpers have arrived, jumping as she points to the crowd, “Teacher Yuan is at the bottom! Beat them off! Quick!”
Huo Ran pretty much leapt up after a run up, sending a slap onto an unfamiliar head that was pressing onto Old Yuan whom he could not see at all.
This was the stance he typically used to block someone’s shot.
Playing basketball was still useful.
Following which, half this person’s body was dragged out by Kou Chen.
The seven-man group went into action at once, with pretty much all the boys from Humanities Class 1 following behind them.
The scene instantly became unusually fervent, with shouts and curses, the creaks made by the chairs and desks as they got squeezed out of the way, and the clattering of books and mugs as they fell onto the ground.
The people pressing onto Old Yuan were dragged off him one by one.
The director, Thousand Years Old, one teacher, two teachers… every time a person was dragged out, Jiang Lei and Wei Chaoren who were standing at the back would raise their fists.
“Director?”
“Hello Teacher Li.”
“Teacher Zhang are you alright!?”
At last, Jiang Lei panicked, letting out a furious roar: “Where’s Old Yuan! Dig Old Yuan out! Do you want to crush him to death!? Old Yuan——”
When Old Yuan finally appeared in front of them, the office was already in chaos. There were three male family members that had been dragged out and they were going at it with the security that had arrived.
“Old Yuan!” they couldn’t be bothered about anything else, pouncing as soon as they saw Old Yuan.
“Wait! Wait!” Xu Zhifan spreads his arms to hold them off, “Wait a bit!”
He turns to perch onto the desk, watching Old Yuan who was sprawled on it: “Old Yuan, don’t move first, is there anywhere that hurts? Can you move?”
Huo Ran also leans over for a look; the corner of Old Yuan’s eye had been cut from a punch, leaving a trail on blood on his face. The corner of his lip was also swollen, with traces of blood.
“Fuck!” Huo Ran was simply pissed beyond belief, jumping up and sending a kick at the man closest to him, who was still harassing security as well as two of their male students, “All of you can fucking go to hell!”
The man was booted into kneeling on the ground and the security took advantage of the fact that he hadn’t gotten up to take him into control.
It was only then that Huo Ran understood why Papa Kou had said that he could handle eight of those like Kou Chen with one hand: in the face of these sorts of trained middle-aged men, there were still pretty big differences between their strength and stamina, being boys that were still considered the buds of the motherland in the last stages.
It had taken them such a long time to subdue these few men who theoretically should be the family members of students, but seemed to be hired thugs no matter how they looked at them, even with the help of their group of male students.
Old Yuan straightens up slowly whilst supporting himself on the desk.
“Teacher Yuan, how are you?” like he was doing a body search, the director felt about and patted Old Yuan’s body.
“I’m fine,” Old Yuan wipes the corner of his mouth, looking at the director then looking at the other teachers, “Are all of you alright?’
It was only then that they had time to observe each other.
The teachers were all in a rather sorry state; the male teachers’ clothes were in complete disarray, there was only one lens left in Thousand Years Old’s glasses which were miraculously still attached to his face. The ponytail Teacher Xiaosun had tied had made its way up to the top of her head, with nobody knowing how it’d gotten up there. The other female teacher had long hair parted in the middle, but the middle parting could no longer be found.
“Those in Humanities Class 1, send your teacher to the school infirmary for a checkup,” the director says, “I’ll be here waiting for the police.”
“You’re all still shameless enough to call the police!” the female family member that had been hiding out at the entrance the whole time says, “This is a university-affiliated high school! Teachers instigating students to date! Now that something’s happened, you want to call the cops to arrest us?”
“I already said,” the director says, “If you want to discuss the matter properly then sit down and talk, if you don’t want to talk here, then we’ll go to the police station to talk. We’re very close to the station, just a two-minute walk.”
“He cannot leave!” a male family member points at Old Yuan.
“What else do you want to do!” the group of boys starts shouting instantly, all pointing at him collectively.
Kou Chen and Huo Ran immediately make their way over, blocking in front of Old Yuan.
“It’s okay,” Old Yuan sticks his head out from between their shoulders to look at that family member, “The term ‘instigate’, you should check the dictionary when you have time, you can check on your phone too, find out what it really means first.”
That family member was completely dumbfounded.
“I could completely disregard this matter, she’s not my student and she’s never interacted with me,” Old Yuan continues speaking, “The double absence of parental communication and companionship and having this sort of attitude whenever something happens will only cause your child to drift further and further away from you. Her being willing to tell you about matters of the heart shows that she’d wanted to maintain communication with you and had hoped to receive understanding, yet you’ve responded to her in this manner.”
“Don’t spout this sort of bullshit with me!” the male family member roars, “My daughter’s been obedient since young, extremely docile! Now she’s been taught to even know how to date!”
“Bull-fucking-shit,” Kou Chen glares at him, “You need people to teach you how to date? When you were dating your wife did you take classes for them? Or did you acknowledge a master?”
“This is your student? This is a student under your tutelage?” the male family member glares at the director.
“Daring to think, with the courage to express, not complying blindly,” Old Yuan says, “These are qualities we hope for students to have… alright, I’ll be going to the infirmary first.”
Old Yuan pats both Huo Ran and Kou Chen’s shoulders and walks out of the office supported by them, not forgetting to instruct: “Other students return to the classrooms.”
When Old Yuan and the other teachers arrive at the infirmary, Tao Rui was standing by the door, looking this way.
She runs over directly as soon as she sees them: “How’s everything?”
“Didn’t you apply for leave?” Huo Ran couldn’t be bothered asking too much, “How did you know we were coming?”
“The disturbance was pretty major,” Tao Rui starts checking the teachers’ injuries as she walks, “Two officers just went in, I reckoned there were teachers that had gotten hurt.”
“They’re not major injuries, it’s alright,” Old Yuan says.
“Thank goodness Doctor Zhang is around today as well,” Tao Rui says, “We’ll check up first, if there’s anything that doesn’t feel right we’ll have to go to the hospital immediately.”
The few teachers enter the infirmary and Huo Ran and Kou Chen lean onto the door, keeping an eye on them inside.
“It should be fine, right?” Huo Ran says, “Superficial wounds.”
“Should be for the other teachers,” Kou Chen says, “I think Old Yuan’s might be a little more serious.”
“Fuck,” Huo Ran furrows his brows, “Whose family members were those? Family members of that pair of lovebirds from Thousand Years Old’s class?”
Huo Ran’s rage had yet to be suppressed and he had not kept his voice down. Thousand Years Old, who was sitting inside, pushes his glasses up and glances at him: “They’re not.”
“Teacher Li,” Huo Ran was startled, hurriedly giving him a bow, “My apologies.”
Thousand Years Old waves his hand.
“Don’t bother about whose,” Old Yuan says, “No matter whose, they wouldn’t be willing for their parents to make such a fuss in the school.”
“Mn,” Huo Ran and Kou Chen both respond.
“Teacher Sun also fought?” Tao Rui disinfects Teacher Xiaosun’s wound, “The wound’s pretty deep too.”
“I don’t even know when I got it,” Teacher Xiaosun says, “I don’t feel pain even now.”
“Shouting and hitting as she jumped,” Kou Chen says.
“So impressive,” Tao Rui starts laughing, “Couldn’t tell.”
“If you were there, you’d have done something as well, it was too maddening,” Teacher Xiaosun says, “I’ve been a teacher for five years and have yet to come across family members as unreasonable as them!”
“Meet my dad another day,” Kou Chen says.
“Don’t speak blindly,” Old Yuan says, “Your father’s a very good person.”
The few teachers were done with checks and had all gotten superficial wounds which weren’t much of a problem, so they left after they’d gotten some medication applied.
Old Yuan’s condition seemed to be rather serious. Doctor Zhang gives a few presses on his ribs: “Does it hurt here?”
“Yes,” Old Yuan nods, “And it hurts a lot, it hurts even without you pressing on it.”
“You were laid out on the desk weren’t you?” Tao Rui furrows her brows, “It’s probably a bone fracture.”
“Go to the hospital immediately,” Doctor Zhang says, then points at Huo Ran and Kou Chen, “You two call a taxi, accompany Teacher Yuan to the hospital for a check up right away.”
“Okay,” Huo Ran takes his phone out immediately.
“I said during class to not bring your phones,” Old Yuan looks at him, “You all really can’t change unless we confiscate your phones huh.”
“You really educate whenever you get the chance,” Huo Ran sighs, lowering his head to swipe around on his phone quickly.
“Do you guys have money?” Tao Rui takes her bag over, “Teacher Yuan probably doesn’t have his wallet on him, I’ll get you guys some…”
“Have have have, jie,” Kou Chen says hurriedly, “I have.”
“Alright,” Tao Rui nods, “Then go quickly.”
As they help Old Yuan into the taxi, the director and principal run out through the gates.
“I heard that the school doctor said it was a fracture?” the principal stuffs a wad of cash into Old Yuan’s pocket as he speaks, “You have to get whatever needs to be checked checked, if they want you hospitalised then stay, I’ll head to the hospital with Old Peng right after we’re done settling things over here.”
“We have money,” Kou Chen says.
“How can the school let a student like you pay first?” the principal says, “You two accompany Teacher Yuan, give me or Director Peng a call if anything crops up.”
“Got it,” Huo Ran nods.
The two sit on each side of the backseat, sandwiching Old Yuan in the middle.
“One of you go to the front,” Old Yuan says, “What’s going on with squeezing behind with me.”
“We have to support you a little though,” Kou Chen says, “What if the car goes too fast and jerks and you weren’t sitting tight.”
“I’ll drive slowly,” the driver da-ge says hurriedly, “Rest assured.”
Arriving at the hospital, they arranged for Old Yuan to receive emergency treatment. After the physician felt about a little, they pretty much confirmed that Old Yuan had suffered a fracture and immediately arranged for him to get an x-ray done.
Huo Ran and Kou Chen paid and the nurse got them a wheelchair, having them push.
It was only when Old Yuan waited in line for the x-ray to be done that Huo Ran felt himself slowly settle down.
His mind had been buzzing the whole time, and he didn’t know whether he’d had someone smack him on the head without his knowledge.
“The police took those people away,” Kou Chen looks at his phone where a few people were reporting the events occurring at the school in a group chat, “The director went with them.”
“That previous school of yours,” Huo Ran turns his head to look at him, “Did these sorts of things happen?”
“As in parents hitting teachers?” Kou Chen says, “No, parents didn’t get a turn, students beat them up when they wanted to.”
“Fuck,” Huo Ran remembers that rumour that suggested Kou Chen had only transferred because he’d hit his teacher once again.
“Fuck,” Kou Chen swears as well, then turns his head, raising his phone and waving it at him, “Wanna know whose family members those were?”
“Whose?” Huo Ran asks as he fishes his phone out.
Kou Chen faces the screen towards him and he sees a message that Xu Chuan had sent.
– heard that it was Li Jiaying’s parents and her uncles
“…Who’s she dating?” Huo Ran was a little shocked; those followers Li Jiaying had with her all looked to be followers, he couldn’t tell which one was in a relationship with her.
“This I don’t know,” Kou Chen says, “How unexpected… but does Li Jiaying dating have even an ounce of fucking business to do with Old Yuan?”
“That class meeting of ours spread in the school like crazy, everyone was mad jealous,” Huo Ran says.
“They wouldn’t have held Old Yuan accountable would they?” Kou Chen sighs.
Huo Ran sighs as well, not speaking.
After Old Yuan gets pushed into the examination room, Huo Ran continues dazing as he leans against the wall.
Kou Chen was having fun chatting with the people in the group next to him.
After a moment, he suddenly gets close to Huo Ran’s ear to say: “Jiang Lei says Chaoren whacked him during the scuffle.”
Huo Ran starts laughing: “Is that so? With how chaotic it was then, even I doubted whether or not I’d hit the director.”
“No,” Kou Chen was still by his ear, “I originally hadn’t wanted to say, but your knee bumped into my death god’s face.”
“…What?” Huo Ran turns to glare at him.
“You used your knee to hit death god’s face,” Kou Chen turns so his back faces him, lifting his shirt up with a swoosh and pointing at the death god on his waist. His point was rather accurate too, right on the death god’s face, “Here, is it a little bruised?”
“My apologies,” Huo Ran looks at the back of his waist, “Death god’s hat is too big, I can’t see if his face is bruised or not.”
There indeed was a bruised patch and the surface was rather large too, the entire area around the death god’s head was bruised.
But he didn’t know if his knee had been the culprit because there had never been any limits when it came to Kou Chen’s words.
“Give death god a rub,” Kou Chen says.
“You can’t rub it at this time,” Huo Ran says, “It’ll aggravate the bleeding under the skin.”
“…Why are you so annoying,” Kou Chen turns back, “Comfort me a little, I haven’t gotten injured in a fight in ages.”
“Didn’t death god’s face receive a hit when you sent people flying last time?” Huo Ran says.
“Just say whether or not you can shut up?” Kou Chen asks.
Huo Ran doesn’t speak, reaching a hand out to pat gently on the back of Kou Chen’s waist: “You’ve worked hard.”3
