Chapter 9: Get Lost, Little Kitty

After eating, he sat on the sofa for a nap.

Wen Cheng put his head on his front paws and squinted.

Once the dishes were washed, Yu Linfei sat beside Wen Cheng, held him in his arms, and scratched his fluffy chin.

Comfortably narrowing his eyes into a slit, Wen Cheng’s mouth let out a soft snoring sound, softening Yu Linfei’s heart.

“Aiya, it’s really a problem where you’ll sleep tonight.” Glancing at the failed cat bed in the corner, Yu Linfei had to conceal the smile in his eyes. “Do you want to sleep with me?”

“Meowu.” Hearing this, Wen Cheng’s originally relaxed nerves suddenly tensed, his body suddenly becoming stiff. He didn’t move at all, seemingly afraid of sleeping with Yu Linfei.

Not knowing whether to laugh or cry at Wen Cheng’s fierce response, Yu Linfei began to doubt his charm for the first time ever. What did he do to make his cat hate him so much?

“You hate me that much?” He couldn’t help but raise his cat in front of him and stare at those watery golden eyes, “What did I do…?”

Wen Cheng silently looked away and thought, you killed me.

“Hey Little Black, tell me.” Seeing that his cat wasn’t willing to make eye contact with him, Yu Linfei even felt the illusion that he’d come across a cat demon, “You won’t look at me? Guilty conscience?”

“Meow meow meow!” When a series of soft, whispering meows came out of Wen Cheng’s mouth…Yu Linfei admitted… he was really stupid. Talking seriously with a cat that couldn’t respond… was he possessed?

“Alright, alright…” Holding Wen Cheng in his arms, Yu Linfei gave up on communicating with him, “If you don’t sleep with me, you can sleep on the sofa. Choose for yourself.”

Hmph, I’d rather sleep on the floor than sleep with you! Wen Cheng raised his head proudly.

“I don’t want to sleep with you anyways.” Yu Linfei, being hated by his cat, began to find reasons to dislike the cat, “A cat that’s unclean like you, you can’t tell how many parasites they might have. Maybe you have fleas!”

“… Meow meow!” Once again, his ego was challenged, and Wen Cheng’s anger flared up. He jumped out from Yu Linfei’s hands and rushed towards him, then…

Then he got caught on Yu Linfei’s sweater.

Due to a lack of strength, Wen Cheng could only try to hook Yu Linfei’s chest, and was unfortunately “stuck” to his sweater… He could only stick to his body with difficulty and couldn’t move.

“Hahaha…” Bursting into laughter at Wen Cheng’s silly appearance, Yu Linfei didn’t have the appearance of an elegant noble scion at all. He took Wen Cheng off of his sweater and stood up from the sofa, holding him up and spinning in a circle.

How childishly sweet he could be. Among Yu Linfei’s hearty laughter, a dizzy Wen Cheng’s feet were completely soft by the time he was put on the ground. He stumbled with each step, colorful stars in his eyes and a strange sound of “meow~meow~” involuntarily leaving his mouth.

“No, I’m going to laugh to death, hahaha…” Tearing up from too much laughter, Yu Linfei directly sat on the ground, pulling Wen Cheng over to kiss him vigorously on the forehead, “Little Black, you’re too adorable!!”

“Meow meow! (You’re cute, your family is cute!)” Wen Cheng was livid!!

“Well, what do you want to eat at night?” Lying on his back on a blanket on the floor, Yu Linfei looked at the ceiling and muttered to himself, “Why don’t we eat fish?”

Of course, there was no answer.

Wen Cheng had decided!! Instead of being tortured to death by Yu Linfei! He was running away from home! Running away from home ah ah ah ah ah ah!!!

Just as Yu Linfei was about to continue playing with Wen Cheng, a phone ringtone broke the harmony (?) between the two. Yu Linfei’s bright smile suddenly disappeared after seeing the caller ID, returning to his usual elegance… or rather, indifference.

“Hello.” Answering the phone, Yu Linfei looked at the sulking Wen Cheng sitting in the corner, his mouth curving up.

“I know.” He didn’t know what the other side said, but Yu Linfei’s tone suddenly turned cold, “I’ll try my best.”

“I don’t want to fight with you, really.” As he’d rarely heard Yu Linfei speak in this tone of voice, Wen Cheng raised his head, a little surprised. He watched the slight smile on Yu Linfei’s face disappear, “It’s no use talking to me now. I can only say that I don’t want to quarrel with you as much as possible. The outcome of us arguing is just that we’ll each believe we’re right, isn’t it?”

… Hearing this, an idea came to Wen Cheng’s heart that he couldn’t believe…

“Meng Baiqing.” Yu Linfei seemed to have exhausted his last bit of patience, and almost sneered as he said, “Do you think I’m a fool that would wear someone else’s green hat? I spoiled you because I liked you, and now I don’t like you. What qualifications do you have to ask me to forgive you?”

Meng Baiqing! These two words hit the top of Wen Cheng’s head like a bolt from the blue. His eyes showed complete disbelief, and he could only continue to listen to Yu Linfei’s conversation in shock.

“Meng Baiqing.” It seemed that he was disgusted by the other person’s entanglement. Yu Linfei said word by word, “We – have – broken – up, understand? Whether you live or die in the future doesn’t concern me, so please don’t call again.”

Finished speaking, Yu Linfei hung up the phone.

Wen Cheng’s mental state had also disconnected along with the hung up call. He’d clearly heard those two words, Meng Baiqing.

Who was Meng Baiqing? If Wen Cheng was still alive at this time, then he’d be very disgusted to hear these two words. The reason was very simple: Meng Baiqing was Yu Linfei’s former lover.

A handsome young man whose smile was sweeter than honey.

It could be said that in front of Meng Baiqing, Wen Cheng felt an inescapable sense of inferiority. Although he had a good family background and was praised by the people around him, there were no shining qualities to Wen Cheng.

He didn’t have Meng Baiqing’s beautiful appearance or attractive temperament, and he couldn’t grasp his clever methods. If one looked only at the outside, Wen Cheng and Meng Baiqing weren’t even on the same starting line.

Besides, although Meng Baiqing’s family conditions weren’t as good as Wen Cheng’s, they still weren’t bad. Wen Cheng could only bitterly smile at the comparison.

But why did Yu Linfei choose to give Meng Baiqing up? Wen Cheng had never wanted to understand, and later, he was too lazy to think about it. As long as Yu Linfei was with him, he didn’t need to think about it so much. What’s more, even if he did think about it, he was lucky enough to lose his life.

Today though, hearing Meng Baiqing’s name, Wen Cheng was so surprised that he broke out in a cold sweat… because he’d thought of an unlikely answer… Was his death related to Meng Baiqing?

Listening to Yu Linfei’s voice though, he didn’t seem to want to get back together with Meng Baiqing. Also, the Qin Xin woman who came over today… Wen Cheng faintly felt that he had missed something important.

“Disgusting.” Yu Linfei, who’d hung up the phone, scolded in a low voice. He sneered and said to himself, “I don’t have the habit of picking up what’s left in someone else’s mouth.”

“Right, Little Black?” Once again, he turned to the corner of the sofa and looked at Wen Cheng, smiling gently, “How nice it’d be if you were human. Everything about you is mine, and I can do everything for you. Aren’t we both happy? How disgusting do you think it is to touch something that others have touched?”

Wen Cheng was silent at Yu Linfei’s words. He thought that perhaps from the beginning, he’d underestimated Yu Linfei’s desires and methods. He was spoiled by this man until he didn’t even remember his own name, waiting until the day that he’d really remember, the day that he paid the price. Yu Linfei harbored cold-blooded wolves, but he himself was just a cat who had barely even been weaned.

“Little Black, do you want me to make you fish this evening?” Holding his chin in his hand, Yu Linfei was talking more to himself than to Wen Cheng, “Are you mad? Hmm… I’ll put less salt.”

Wen Cheng naturally had no ability to answer Yu Linfei’s question. He swung his tail lazily, looking at Yu Linfei’s profile, stretching out his tongue and licking his lips.

He wondered to himself why, when he saw Yu Linfei, he didn’t hate him as much as he thought he would. It was almost like Wen Cheng subconsciously knew that the two of them would end. In other words, Wen Cheng subconsciously knew from the start that Yu Linfei had never belonged to him.

How could this man, whose brilliance couldn’t be concealed even by his silence, have such an ordinary partner in his life? What ability did he have to keep Yu Linfei? What qualifications did he have to enjoy his bottomless love? Wen Cheng was full of resentment and hatred when he was killed, but now, the resentment that should have been endless had unexpectedly calmed down.

Because in the end, Wen Cheng still loved Yu Linfei from the bottom of his heart. Even when he’d killed him, Wen Cheng would still find excuses for him. One distortion wasn’t enough to erase all the gentleness that Yu Linfei had given Wen Cheng. Wen Cheng thought that in certain ways, he really was cheap…

“Is Little Black in a bad mood?” Yu Linfei asked, looking at his cat who’d suddenly quieted down.

Wen Cheng didn’t answer, just jumping off the sofa.

“Are you making a complaint about me?” Seeing Wen Cheng moving, Yu Linfei was helpless again. He watched Wen Cheng’s swaying round little butt enter the bedroom, and finally… the bedroom door closed.

“He Yi… you really didn’t give me a cat demon, right?” Looking at Wen Cheng’s action, Yu Linfei was completely speechless.
