What does it feel like to have a werewolf living in your home?

It seems there’s not much to it. There was no full moon for the transformation, no bloodthirsty werewolf slaughtering the family, and no demon hunter leading over two hundred holy knights to punish evil and flatten the house. He Ren felt that the night was as calm as if nothing had happened: the werewolf was very easy to talk to, paid the rent obediently, and didn’t go berserk after transforming. Her only peculiarities were a fear of cats, being a bit chatty, and slightly annoying. Apart from that, she had no other flaws, and she looked cute whether transformed or not, which wasn’t too hard to accept.

The next morning, He Ren was woken up by a wet, scratchy sensation on his face. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw a black and white furry face staring at him, with two golden vertical pupils conveying one message: breakfast!

"Good morning, Roll," He Ren forced himself to stay awake, yawned several times, and stretched his arms to finally wake up. He waved his hand to send his second-in-command to the floor and got up to dress in a daze.

Then he suddenly remembered that he had a new tenant.

And that the new tenant was a so-called werewolf, an unknown life form.

This had kept him up until the wee hours of the morning, and now, after a night’s sleep, the drowsiness in his head hadn’t fully dissipated. He couldn’t help but scratch his head and mutter, "Was it all a dream?"

But he soon realized it wasn’t a dream: a series of clattering footsteps came from the living room, followed by a somewhat familiar, noisy voice: "Landlord! Is there no signal on your TV? The ad said there’s a TV to watch!"

He Ren sighed, finally accepting the fact that his life had changed, but he knew he wasn’t prepared for it at all. Honestly, who could be prepared for this situation unless they had been delusional for years, with their fantasies already invading reality? He had no idea how to interact with a werewolf or what would happen the next day. For now, he would just take it one step at a time.

He pushed the door open and saw Lili already sitting in the living room. The werewolf girl had changed her clothes and was now wearing a cool, light tank top and denim shorts, exuding a youthful and vibrant aura. Her slightly tanned skin, paired with this outfit, made her look like she had just stepped out of a fitness show. Seeing He Ren come out, Lili immediately waved happily, "Good morning, landlord! The TV has no signal, what’s going on?"

Then she noticed the black and white cat perched on He Ren’s shoulder, looking as if it were on an inspection tour. She immediately did a backflip to hide behind the sofa, peeking out with a trembling head, her eyes, now a pale gold, fixed on the cat’s face. After a long pause, she greeted in a near-reverent tone, "Roll... good morning."

"As a werewolf, please have a bit more courage," He Ren glanced at Lili, feeling that each word he spoke to this girl reduced his anxiety about the uncertain future. This girl was really good at relieving stress. Then he looked at the LCD TV, which had been bought only a few years ago, now showing a blue screen, "Is there a problem with the TV? Is there no signal in your room either?"

This unassuming rental apartment had a very extravagant side: there was a TV in every room, which He Ren had impulsively bought a couple of years ago when business was booming. But because it was a big sale, it didn’t cost much. Now, having a TV in every room was the most attractive selling point when he rented out the place.

Lili nodded, carefully crawling out from behind the sofa, moving on all fours like a puppy, "There’s no signal in my room either. I wanted to watch the documentary channel this morning."

"Do you like watching documentaries?" He Ren asked casually, while checking the TV’s wiring. Lili’s voice came from behind him, "Not really, but there’s a dubbed film about the wolves of the grasslands recently, and I need to keep up with the movements of my clan..."

"Are you from the African savanna?" He Ren turned his head curiously, and the subtle feeling of the werewolf’s identity and the topic they were discussing rolled over him.

Lili shook her head, "No, I don’t know where I’m from. Maybe near the snowfields. My memories before ‘awakening’ are hazy, and I can’t recall them at all. But I think all wolves are one family—humans have so many races but still call themselves Earthlings, right? I think the main reason we ‘abnormals’ are marginalized is a lack of unity..."

Lili started babbling again, and He Ren felt he couldn’t keep up with her topics at all—damn it, how do you discuss evolution or species with a canine from the snowfields?

"The wiring is fine, the TV is fine. Since there’s no signal in your room either, it’s probably a problem with the signal tower," He Ren lifted his head from behind the TV, sounding professional, though he didn’t really know what was wrong. He just didn’t want to lose face in front of a werewolf who was scared by a cat and crawled on all fours, "There are few cable connections here, so we mostly rely on the TV tower."

"Oh," Lili responded, looking a bit disappointed, but the disappointment quickly faded. He Ren first filled the cat’s food bowl for "Roll," then prepared to go to the kitchen to cook. But just as he was about to step into the kitchen, a series of knocks came from the door.

He Ren thought he might have imagined it, but just before the knocking, he felt a familiar chill. But the chill only lasted a moment, and he thought it was just his nerves. Lili frowned and sniffed but didn’t notice anything. She pointed to the door, "Landlord, there’s a visitor!"

"Got it, got it," He Ren ran to the door, wondering who would visit such a remote place, and it wasn’t the time for utility bills. He opened the door and habitually said, "Hey, you’re looking for...?!"

A girl he didn’t recognize stood outside the door.

She was tall, at least 1.7 meters, with a slender figure and long hair reaching her waist. She wore a simple black dress and slightly worn-out sports shoes, with no other adornments. But her plain attire couldn’t hide her outstanding appearance: she had a delicate and regal face, with small eyes that seemed to convey a graceful beauty when slightly squinted, a small, slightly upturned nose, and thin, naturally red lips. Her face had a slight Eurasian mix, giving the impression of a beautiful mixed-race girl. The most striking feature was her skin: it was so smooth and tender it seemed almost translucent, and unusually pale—so pale that He Ren thought it was almost too much.

He Ren wasn’t the type to be immobilized by beauty, though he did aspire to have a girlfriend. He hadn’t been stunned for so long when he saw Lili, a beautiful girl, bouncing around in front of him. The main reason he was stunned now was that the girl at the door looked even more surprised than he was.

The unfamiliar girl shielded her eyes from the sunlight, seemingly disliking overly bright weather. When she saw He Ren open the door, her surprised expression was completely unmasked, and before He Ren could speak, she exclaimed, "You’re the one from last night... You didn’t die?!"

"What kind of greeting is that!" He Ren instinctively retorted, then realized the information in her words, "Last night... damn! Lili, transform!"

He had only encountered one other “person” besides Lili last night!

And now he was certain that the chill he felt before opening the door wasn’t an illusion. It was his sixth sense, which he had cultivated since childhood, but it proved useless without vigilance. He had already opened the door and was less than two meters away from last night’s attacker!

He Ren’s last thought in this chapter was: I didn’t expect it to be a beautiful girl...
