Fei’er took Ping Zhaofu out to buy some jewelleries and cloth for tailoring as per Cha Xiangye’s instruction and the expenses fully paid by Cha family.
The storekeeper knew that she was the new daughter-in-law. Although she had a smile on the face, but she looked at Ping Zhaofu with a sympathetic expression.
Ping Zhaofu understood why people looked at her this way, and even before she got into this Cha family, she was feared that her life would not last long either.
However, she knew that Cha Xiangye was not as brutal as the rumours said.
He was indeed cold and moody, but he had never done anything bad to her. Plus she already knew how to avoid making him emotionally angry, and faithfully believed that the days to come will be more peaceful.
But she still wanted to find out the truth about the rumours.
She was hoping that in future, if someone questioned about her husband’s temperament that killed his ex-wife, she could argue with reason, and dispelled the rumours for him to return his innocence.
While eating in the restaurant, Ping Zhaofu asked Rou’er and Fei’er again how the first two wives passed away and told them she believed Cha Xiangye was innocent. She just wanted to know the truth.
She didn’t want to live life with doubts, so she decided to force them to speak out the truth this time.
Fei’er and Rou’er looked at each other, Rou’er pushed the task over to Fei’er, fearing that she might accidentally said something wrongly or slipped her lips.
Fei’er recalled Master’s words the other day, but she really didn’t understand what Master was thinking.
Why do you want to let your wife go to the garden?
Isn’t that a thread of danger?
Will Master be sad again?
Still… there was a flash of light in her mind. Are you actually testing Ping Zhaofu?
Fei’er couldn’t help but sigh.
Master’s temperament wasn’t that bad or with high jealousy. It was the first two ladies’ fault. They didn’t obey the rules and dared to have illicit lover. In the end, it was Master who helped to cover up the scandals.
Fei’er believed that Ping Zhaofu is innocent and has self-conscious, but she still afraid- anything could happened. After all, ‘that person’ didn’t care about appearance and would make any women hard to resist from temptation. He had a painful past that can easily manipulate women’s heart, that was why she worried about Ping Zhaofu would be targeted and expelled from Cha family.
“Fei’er?” Ping Zhaofu saw Fei’er wanted to say something but stopped, she leaned slightly, “Can you share?”
Fei’er really wanted to tell Ping Zhaofu to stay away from ‘that person‘, but because of the past scandal happened in Cha family, Aunt Chen strictly mentioned that no one could leak a word, otherwise they will be kicked out of the Cha family and the initial signing fee in the contract will be taken back.
Fei’er‘s mother had gotten older and with poor physical condition. She could no longer do farm work. Her father is a blacksmith, but his skills were not good enough, so he could only make and repair farm tools. The business was just ordinary. She also has younger siblings and grandparents to take care of in the family. If she didn’t have the job in Cha family, her family’s livelihood would be even more difficult.
“The former Madams were all died of illness. They both definitely were not abused to death by Master as reported by the outsiders.” Fei’er replied without telling the truth.
Rou’er on the side immediately nodded in agreement, “Yeah, Master is really not a cruel person. It was all because the former madams….” Her thigh was suddenly being twisted by the side, as a reminder from Fei’er. Afraid that Rou’er would spilled the beans.
The painful Rou’er turned her head angrily, “I know.”
“Know what?” Ping Zhaofu asked curiously.
“I know…” Rou’er stammered, “the former Madams… died because of illness.”
Ping Zhaofu was not an idiot, she knew that they still concealed the truth and refused to tell her.
Maybe there was something unspeakable.
Ping Zhaofu speculated.
After all, they were just servants of the Cha family and couldn’t talk freely, but Ping Zhaofu deeply felt that she had not been accepted by this family yet, so many things still couldn’t be shared to her.
Maybe it was Cha Xiangye’s instruction.
She couldn’t help feeling lonely.
She was grateful and happy to have new clothes and jewelleries, but she didn’t have a strong desire for material enjoyment. All she ever wanted was a warm home. After all, she was sold to the Ping family as a child bride, she already had unpleasant memories. She couldn’t forget how hoarse she was when she was forced to carry away from her mother on the day she was taken away.
When she first arrived at the small house, she cried because she missed her parents. She greeted Father and Mother Ping everyday and even shed tears but they never bothered her.
When Mother Ping had no sign of pregnancy, she accidentally heard that they wanted to sell her off again. Since then, she had been full of insecurity and fear of losing her home.
She tried her best to please Mother Ping, and constantly kept herself busy as soon as she woke up. Hoping that they would not sell her because of her good behaviour.
Mother Ping finally gave birth to Ping Guifu, she took good care of Mother Ping and Ping Guifu. She just couldn’t breastfeed him, otherwise she could take care all things by herself.
But no matter how hard she tried, still she was sold because Ping Guifu fell in love with someone else and didn’t want her as a daughter-in-law.
She looked down at her belly, hoping that would conceive soon. As long as she had a child, whether is a boy or girl, which means that Cha Xiangye would not abandon her.
She never dared to imagine that Cha Xiangye would love her, but as long as she could give birth to a child, which means that she is useful to this family. At least as a mother with a child, she could stay by his side forever.
“Madam?”
Fei’er’s voice brought her back from the memory.
“It’s time to go back,” Ping Zhaofu said vigorously, “We can’t go home later than Master.”
“Yes.” The two maids nodded, Rou’er went down first to call the carriage over, and three of them got into it and set off to go home.

“Madam, you have to pick the thread here with a needle to avoid gaps.”
Rou’er taught Ping Zhaofu’s embroidery skills, Ping Zhaofu nodded and learn hard.
Fei’er who came in with a snack, raised her voice and smiled: “I brought some snack Madam, please take a break.”
“Wow.” Rou’er, who loved snacks, applauded happily. “I’m going to make some tea.”
“Okay.” Ping Zhaofu’s eyes were sore from embroidering, so she put the needle kit aside and shared snacks with the maids.
Three of them chatted for a long time, and Fei’er looked at Ping Zhaofu for a while, thinking that she could not drag it any longer.
Few days ago, Cha Xiangye told her to take Ping Zhaofu for a walk in the garden. Although she didn’t understand Cha Xiangye’s intention but didn’t dare to violate Master’s instruction. To be honest, she was unwilling and afraid any incidents could happened.
Thank God, Ping Zhaofu make a pass as she was so busy looking for new things to learn and to do, so Fei’er temporarily put it aside, but Cha Xiangye asked about it again last night. So she knew that it would be no good to delay further, especially she was just a little maid, how could she do as she pleased and disobeyed Master’s instruction?
So she took the chance while preparing the snacks and asked Ping Zhaofu: “Madam, the weather is good today. Would you like to take a stroll in the garden?”
“Garden?” Ping Zhaofu was surprised and looked at Fei’er’s proposal.
“Yes, after Madam got married, almost every day stayed in the room. It’s too boring, there are many places in Cha house that you haven’t been to. Fei’er and Rou’er will accompany Madam for a walk.”
Ping Zhaofu remembered the warning from Aunt Xu, asking her to stay in the room and not run around.
In fact, to think about it, this warning indeed mysterious. Currently she’s the Madam of Cha family, so there is no reason why she couldn’t go around the house?
Although she didn’t understand Aunt Xu’s intention, she even asked Aunt Xu previously in the kitchen while preparing meals for Cha Xiangye, but Aunt Xu only gave her short statement, “I am doing this for your own good, and it’s never wrong to listen to elderly”, and perfunctorily walked pass her.
But this remained in her heart. She even thought that being a wife in Cha family was just like a bird in the cage and could not go anywhere.
She had heard that the daughters of those wealthy family were always stayed in the room and hardly go out from the house in order to keep good social status. Unlike poor people like herself, needs to go out to make a living. Perhaps that’s the reality about living in a wealthy family.
But few days ago, Cha Xiangye asked Fei’er to take her out to buy new clothes, jewellery, and also took her to the restaurant. So probably there were no such strict rules in the house.
It has been almost two months since she married to the Cha family, and her most familiar place was the kitchen. Ping Zhaofu actually curious about other places too and wanted to have a look.
She nodded, “Okay.”
