“Master is home.” A maid called hurriedly.

“Go and prepare dinner.” Ping Zhaofu told Rou’er and turned to Fei’er on the other side, “and bring some clean water for Master to wash face and hands.” She herself went to the wardrobe and took out the comfortable home clothes to let Cha Xiangye to change.

The maids quickly dispersed and performed their duties.

Cha Xiangye walked into the main house with a sullen face. As soon as he came in, Ping Zhaofu noticed something was not right.

She stepped forward to take off his warm cloak, and asked softly, “Did something happen today?”

Cha Xiangye wondered why she would dare to ask this question!

Staring down at Ping Zhaofu, who opened the bow with her little hand, took off his cloak and helped him to change with fresh clothes. At this moment, Fei’er came back in with a pail of water.

“I’m hungry, go and prepare the dinner.” His commanded Ping Zhaofu.

“Rou’er has gone to prepare them, meals will be delivered s…”

“I am asking you to do it. Go now.”

His tone was a little firmer and with obvious anger. Ping Zhaofu guessed that he might be angry for something had happened. She spoke no further and hung his cloak on the hanger, then left the main room and walked towards the kitchen.

“Fei’er, come and help me change my clothes.” Cha Xiangye ordered to Fei’er who was busy rinsing the towel with clean water.

“Yes.” Fei’er took the clean towel and stepped forward quickly.

“Have you taken Madam to the garden?”

Fei’er helped to loosen his belt and said, “Yes… Madam saw Second Master today.” Fei’er whispered.

“How was it?”

“Second Master asked Madam to push him to the lake for a walk. He deliberately separated slave and Rou’er by asking us to go to the kitchen to get steamed buns so that they could feed the fish.”

Taking off his coat, Fei’er picked the home clothes that was placed on the bed by Ping Zhaofu and put them on Cha Xiangye.

“and then?”

“Because there were no steamed buns left in the kitchen, so we went out and bought some back from the stall, then gave it to Madam and Second Master.”

“Did you see anything when you came back?”

The moment Fei’er returned to the garden with Rou’er, she saw the two of them sitting side by side in the pavilion, Cha Xuanyu’s head was resting on Ping Zhaofu’s shoulder.

Fei’er felt chills- if she were to tell the truth, Master would definitely doubt Madam’s innocence.

“Second master and Madam talked very happily.”

“That was all?”

“That was all….” Fei’er said firmly, not wanting to give Cha Xiangye room for suspicion, but she didn’t know that someone already had confided it long ago.

Cha Xiangye suppressed his anger.

This girl is in collusion with Ping Zhaofu!

“Did Madam say anything else?” he asked again.

“What… uh… M_Madam said, she felt that the Second Master seems to be very lonely. And offered to chat with him when she has free time…”

Cha Xiangye sneered, and Fei’er felt terrified and didn’t dare to say any more.

It was an old trick again.

It was exactly the same fake sympathy and his wife still had fallen into Cha Xuanyu’s charm.

Ping Zhaofu is no different from everyone else!

The thought about she would be unmoved easily made him even more angry.

His eyes sank suddenly and pushed Fei’er away. He tied his belt by himself, and strode towards the outer hall.

At this time, Ping Zhaofu and Rou’er were setting up the dishes on the table.

Seeing Cha Xiangye came out from the room, Ping Zhaofu greeted him and habitually helped him to adjust his clothes and straighten the angle of his belt.

“Dinner is ready.” She raised her head and smiled.

She was greeted in return by a pair of cold eyes. Cha Xiangye pushed away the bare hand that was holding onto his arm and went straight to the dining table.

Ping Zhaofu speculated that probably he was angry because of business, which probably quite serious, otherwise he wouldn’t usually bring his anger back home.

The Cha family’s big business was very big, and it was all managed by himself. He was young, had no one to help him. His parents died early and his only brother was bad at doing things, she could imagined the immerse pressure he had on his shoulders. It was understandable that he didn’t greet her politely, therefore she didn’t take it to the heart.

After all, compared to the two elders in Ping family, regardless whether it was her mistake or not, they will put all the blame on her, and would vent out the anger on her. Comparing to that with Cha Xiangye who was just with a cold attitude and it was much better actually.

Ping Zhaofu took the rice bowl from Rou’er and placed it in front of him. She arranged dishes on the porcelain plate and served him a bowl of hot stewed mutton soup before sitting down.

“Where did you go today?” Cha Xiangye asked seemingly casually after eating a few bites of food.

He still remembered that when he got married with his first wife, he took the initiative to introduce Cha Xuanyu, and explained that Cha Xuanyu’s disability was caused by him. And reminded her not to forget to take care of his younger brother as well.

But who knew that the wife actually even took care of him on the bed.

Before the incident happened, the private meeting with his younger brother wasn’t been informed at all. He was once blamed his wife for being too cold to his younger brother and asked her to be more attentive.

The second wife, he deliberately avoided the introduction as he didn’t want to repeat the same mistake again but still the two hooked up.

Similarly, she never mentioned anything about their private meetings either.

So after Ping Zhaofu came to the family, he simply approached differently and asked Fei’er to bring her to Cha Xuanyu. If something would happen, let it happen early. Rather than being betrayed brutally again, he would not be devoted his heart and love easily.

He couldn’t blame his brother, he can only tolerate his brother’s willfulness and do whatever he wanted. After all, all the mistakes were caused by him.

Before his parents’ death, mother told him in any way or every way, that he must take good care of his younger brother. This was his responsibility, a lifetime responsibility.

“Today, I learned this stewed mutton soup from Aunt Xu. At first, I boiled it with cold water with ginger sliced, mutton and rice wine. Then when it’s cooked, pour out the soup, and then rinse with cold water to remove the fishy smell. I boiled another pot of water, and cook the blanched lamb, rice wine, and ginger together for one hour and a half before it was ready. Try to see if the meat is tender enough.”

Ping Zhaofu looked at him expectantly.

She thought that it was about the right time get warmed up in this cold weather, especially Cha Xiangye was seriously sick in a couple of days back.

Cha Xiangye took a bite of lamb and nodded. “Only busy preparing this soup all day?”

“And I’d also made that braised shrimp dish.” Ping Zhaofu smiled a little shyly, “but I don’t know much.. Lucky that Aunt Xu was willing to teach me.”

Although Ping Zhaofu cooked three meals in Ping Family, but poor people would hardly have fish or meat for their meals. So Ping Zhaofu had no experience and can only learned it after she came to the Cha family.

This was a completely different world from the past. There were so many things to learn from. Ping Zhaofu was like a sponge, she would try her best to absorb all the knowledge whenever she had the opportunity.

She hoped that one day she can become an indispensable companion for Cha Xiangye. In this way, if anything happened in the future, she won’t be abandoned or kicked out from family due to her incompetence.

“That was all?” Cha Xiangye stared at her blankly.

Looks like she’s going to hide it too.

“Actually, I met someone today.”

Cha Xiangye unconsciously straightened up, “Who?”

“Second Master.” Ping Zhaofu took a shrimp and put it into his bowl. “He asked me to accompany him for a walk and chat, so I went with him.” She raised her head and asked puzzledly, “Why didn’t you tell me that you have a brother?”

Ping Zhaofu was waiting for his answer, wondering why would he hide this important matter from her? Didn’t he regard her as part of his family member?

“What did you two talk about?” Cha Xiangye didn’t respond to her question, but instead questioned back.

“Second Master said you didn’t tell me because you thought he was a disgrace.”

That was Cha Xuanyu’s second trick. He manipulated the situation set his brother as a bad inhumane person. His wife would begin to sympathize Cha Xuanyu, believed that her husband was an unforgivable villain who bullied his brother.

But Cha Xiangye didn’t expect that Ping Zhaofu directed back to Cha Xuanyu and interrogated him.

“I know you are not,” Ping Zhaofu resolutely said, “So I think your brother may have some misunderstanding, shouldn’t you both talk about it?”

Cha Xiangye glanced at the honest Ping Zhaofu.

Is she telling the truth?

You think it was all misunderstanding?

No! Impossible.

He remembered what He Wei told him, maybe she just wanted to cover up her affair with Cha Xuanyu.

He waved his hand to ask Fei’er and Rou’er to leave the room.

The two maids took the order and closed the door after leaving the main house. Rou’er wanted to take this chance to go to kitchen to eat first, but Fei’er pulled her back.

“What?” Rou’er wondered.

“Wait first.” Fei’er’s index finger touched her lips, asking her to be silent and pulled Rou’er to the side of the door.

She was very disturbed as the Master sent them out, which means something about to happen.

“I heard that you let Cha Xuanyu lean on your shoulder.” asked Cha Xiangye.

“Yes, he was sleepy and fell asleep on my shoulder.”

She was talking to the lake about her childhood. Suddenly Cha Xuanyu’s head leaned over and startled her. She hurriedly pushed his head straight, but Cha Xuanyu’s head swayed and shook for a while. And soon leaned on again.

She looked down and found that he was asleep. She felt troubled, but she was too embarrassed to wake infirm man up, so she straightened her body stiffly and patiently waited for him to wake up.

“You let a man sleep on your shoulder!?”

Cha Xiangye’s face was livid, his anger surged up, and his face was flushed. The anger came out so strong that made Ping Zhaofu panicked for a moment.

“He… he is a younger brother.., your younger brother, and naturally he’s my younger brother as well──”

“Using younger brother as an excuse again!” Cha Xiangye interrupted in a murmur.

When the word of “brother” was mentioned, Cha Xiangye thought of Ping Guifu.

She always said that Ping Guifu was just a younger brother to her. She took care of him, changed clothes and bathed him, all because he was a younger brother. And even now she used Cha Xuanyu as younger brother as an excuse to uphold the two people’s intimacy and even embrace.

The action made Cha Xiangye doubt her integrity and chastity.

He always thought that she was honest, maybe it was a cover for future uneasiness!

“It’s not an excuse, isn’t Second Master is your younger brother…”

Cha Xiangye suddenly swept off the tableware on the table, and the slamming sound of the porcelain plate falling to the ground not only frightened Ping Zhaofu, but also stunned the maids outside.

“You fickle woman, don’t think I will be fooled by you!” Cha Xiangye suddenly grabbed Ping Zhaofu by the collar and lifted her up. “I know all the things you did with Cha Xuanyu! Not only you did let him sleep on your shoulder, but you also hugged him! Do you want to say that he is young and all these intimate movements are normal?” Cha Xiangye gritted his teeth. “He is twenty years old, not twelve!”

Cha Xiangye pushed forward violently, Ping Zhaofu staggered back, fell to the ground and knocked over the low stool.

“Ah…” She groaned with pain, but Cha Xiangye showed no sympathy.

“The Cha family can’t tolerate a lewd bitch like you, get out of here!”

“No… I didn’t!” Ping Zhaofu quickly crawled over, grabbing the corner of his clothes, “I didn’t hug him, I didn’t… ah──!”

Cha Xiangye kicked her away.

“Don’t touch me with your dirty hands!”

“Master…”

“Get the fuck out of here! I don’t want to see you again!”

“Master, listen to me, I don’t know… ah──”

Cha Xiangye suddenly pulled her up and dragged her out.

“Please listen to my explanation, I really don’t know what you are talking about, I really didn’t hug him…”

Cha Xiangye opened the door and saw the two pale-faced maid at the door, he threw Ping Zhaofu at them without saying a word.

“Kick her out.”

“Master!” The maid quickly knelt down to plead. “Madam, she…”

“She is no longer Cha Xiangye’s wife. Take her out immediately. If you speak another word, go with her!”

The two maids shut up quickly, didn’t dare to talk any more. They looked at Ping Zhaofu with tears.

He divorced her.

Ping Zhaofu’s mind was blank for a moment.

“What are you still waiting for?” Cha Xiangye yelled sharply.

“Don’t embarrass them, I’ll go out by myself.” Ping Zhaofu stood up tremblingly and wanted to say something, but as soon as she touched Cha Xiangye’s cold eyes, all thousand words could only be swallowed back in.

“Madam…” the maids cried, not knowing what to do.

Ping Zhaofu crossed the front porch, stepped down the stairs, and faltered towards the door.

She looked back several times and saw Cha Xiangye staring at her coldly, as if watching her to leave, away from Cha family land.

She doesn’t belong here after all.

Tears fell one by one, dripping down to the ground as she passed by.

She was really homeless this time.
