Lin Bei turned back, and when he was less than three li away from Longtan, he sensed an unusually strong smell of blood.

"There must be an animal eating that wild boar!" Lin Bei immediately thought of the reason for this situation and sped up.

Lin Bei's current sensing ability was very strong. When he was still a few hundred meters away from the pond, he could already see what animal was feeding. It was a jackal.

A jackal is not a wolf but belongs to the canine family. Its fur is generally red, it is slightly larger than a dog, and its tail is very fluffy. At first glance, it might be mistaken for a fox. This jackal was a female, with a large belly, but it was so emaciated that it looked like a rack of ribs, clearly malnourished. At that moment, she was eating frantically, having already torn open the wild boar's belly, exposing a large area of internal organs, which looked extremely disgusting and was the source of the strong smell of blood.

Lin Bei stopped and did not go to disturb the jackal. Although he had no good feelings towards such a fierce creature, she was pregnant. This mother was clearly unable to hunt due to her pregnancy. In such a situation, Lin Bei was always very generous.

In a direction Lin Bei could not see, six wild wolves were sniffing the air. These six wolves were somewhat familiar with Lin Bei, as they were the remaining six from the pack he had killed in the afternoon. Smelling the blood, the six wolves became restless, but at the low howl of the lead wolf, they turned and left. The lead wolf had sensed Lin Bei's presence.

The female jackal's belly gradually swelled, showing that she was now full, but she still greedily tore at a piece of the wild boar's thigh. She hadn't eaten so well in a long time. During her pregnancy, she needed a lot of meat, but her body was not very agile, and she lived alone, away from the pack. If it weren't for this dead wild boar, she might have become prey herself by the next day. But with this meal, her offspring should be born smoothly. Lin Bei had, in a sense, done a good deed.

Seeing that the female jackal was full, Lin Bei revealed himself. Snakes generally cannot hiss, so to intimidate, they rely on their size. When Lin Bei stood up, the female jackal noticed him, hesitated for a moment, and then slowly retreated, dragging a piece of the boar's thigh. She realized that Lin Bei was not to be trifled with.

Most animals that have been intimidated will acknowledge the area as Lin Bei's territory, but a few will not submit so easily. For example, the wild boar he had just driven away. In short, if Lin Bei wanted to have a territory in the forest that would not be disturbed by animals, he would need to work harder. The best method would be to defeat all the surrounding beasts one by one.

After the female jackal retreated, Lin Bei approached the wild boar's corpse.

This wild boar was already an adult, very large, and probably weighed over 300 pounds. Although the female jackal had eaten some of it, there was still a lot of meat left.

"All meat, and it's pure wild boar meat, which is hard to find in modern times," Lin Bei mused.

In modern society, many wild boars are raised artificially. They are called wild boars, but they are essentially domestic pigs, having lost their wild nature. There were no wild boars in Shuangyashan. In fact, true wild boars are quite rare in modern times, existing only in remote areas. Here, they come in large groups.

Lin Bei was also interested in wild boar meat. Imagining a juicy wild boar leg sizzling on a grill, making the mouth water, but clearly, Lin Bei couldn't do that now. So, after some thought, he pushed the wild boar's corpse into the small river. Lin Bei didn't like the strong smell of blood.

After pushing it in, Lin Bei rinsed the ground with water to reduce the smell of blood. Then, he dragged the water-soaked wild boar's corpse a few miles away and threw it. He didn't need to worry about the wild boar's corpse, as the meat would be eaten quickly. The jackal was just the first to arrive; even insects like ants in the forest eat meat.

Returning to Longtan, Lin Bei climbed back up the tree. Although he was mentally excited, he didn't want to move. It was his first day in the forest, and he was mostly observing.

Time passed slowly, and the night seemed long for Lin Bei. His observations were quite effective.

In the middle of the night, three bears came to the small river: one large and two small. One of the small bears had a lame leg, as if it had been bitten. The mother bear brought the cubs to catch crayfish in the river. They splashed in the water, using their large paws to stir it up. If the crayfish or crabs couldn't stand it, the moment they emerged from their burrows was the moment they would die.

The three bears stayed until dawn before leaving. Before they left, three water deer returned. They were not afraid of the bears, as bears generally do not hunt large prey, so the two groups coexisted harmoniously.

The early morning was also a lively time. Lin Bei saw a group of monkeys swinging over to the small river, then squatting by the river to wash their faces and drink water. Lin Bei didn't recognize the species of these monkeys, but they were definitely not golden monkeys. The crayfish and crabs in the river were harassed again. These monkeys did not eat the meat but would catch and throw them, then stomp on them with their feet. Clearly, they didn't realize they were wasting food, which was quite shameful.

After the monkeys left, the small river slowly returned to peace. Although other animals came to drink water, they were only a few. Even the tiger Lin Bei had seen earlier came and drank its fill before leaving. Lin Bei noticed that its belly was somewhat sunken, indicating that the king of the forest had not had a good night and had to rely on water to fill its stomach.

"The resources here are very rich," Lin Bei concluded. "And this small river is probably the only water source nearby."

Although the forest was humid, there were not many water sources. Herbivores and carnivores could get water from grass and blood, respectively, but drinking water was more refreshing. If this small river were not the only water source, the animals would not come in such numbers. Therefore, Lin Bei thought that the task of claiming this area would be difficult, as he would need to offend all the nearby animals to complete it.

Then, Lin Bei went to sleep. He did not resist this instinct of snakes, as he had nothing to do, and sleeping would make time pass faster.

Although the forest was dangerous, Lin Bei still slept deeply. He didn't know how long he had slept when he was awakened by a commotion.

Opening his eyes, Lin Bei found several large eagles perched around him, eyeing him hungrily, occasionally flapping their wings, showing considerable impatience. They probably thought he was dead and were ready to take advantage of the situation. However, when Lin Bei woke up, these eagles quickly flapped their wings and flew into the sky. One of the young eagles, who had just left the nest, was not very skilled at flying. When the other eagles were already dozens of meters away, this little one was still flapping its wings, its slow reaction making Lin Bei somewhat exasperated.

"Bro, you should be grateful. If you had met another python, you would have died here," Lin Bei silently said to the young eagle.

The young eagle finally flew away from the locust tree, glancing down at Lin Bei as it left. It didn't know that Lin Bei had let it go, so it was probably mocking Lin Bei for his slow reaction.

Lin Bei, of course, didn't care about this. He stretched his snake body and twisted a few times. The sun was high in the sky, radiating endless light and heat. It was another sunny day, and everything looked beautiful. This was Lin Bei's second day here.
