Adventurer’s Guild
After that, I continued to secretly watch and escort Mize.
The number of enemies lurking in the streets around the school are increasing each day. From the bandits’ point of view, the assailants they sent into the vicinity of the school these past few days have been killed one after the other. The enemy is probably wary of the existence of an escort.
This in turn caused the battles to intensify, leaving me with a reduced margin of error.
Ideally, I would have killed all the enemies before Mize comes out of the dorm, but sometimes that’s impossible. Since I defeated them early, enemy reinforcements come in just as Mize is about to arrive at school. At those times, I had to engage the reinforcements while Mize leisurely walked to school.
“Sorry, I’m late.”
Lunch break.
As I headed to the courtyard, I gave a light apology to Elysia and the other two, who had already started eating.
“I’ve already finished eating.”
“Tweight, I bought you some Yakisoba bread.”
I took the bread from Gran before sitting on the bench.
Mize, who had already eaten her lunch, had an apologetic look on her face.
“Recently, you’ve been going somewhere during lunch break.”
“I went to return some books to the library. I thought I’d follow Mize’s example and study a bit more.”
When I said that, Mize’s cheeks flushed lightly, and she took a bite out of some bread to hide her embarrassment.
The truth is that I went outside the school grounds to patrol the castle town.
I just took down three bandits.
I can still handle it right now, but it’s starting to take its toll on me.
Student and Escort. These two positions have been switching at a dizzying pace.
It’s not as bad as it was during the Great War, but these have been the most turbulent days since those of the war.
One day.
After school had ended.
“Um, would you like to visit the Adventurer’s Guild?”
At Mize’s sudden suggestion, Elysia, Gran, and I looked at each other.
“…Speaking of which, things have been a mess lately.”
Lately– there was the issue concerning Elysia being attacked, in which I had to disguise myself as a Knight of the Orthodox Order.
It had slipped my mind, but come to think of it, I haven’t visited the Adventurer’s Guild since then.
“So, Mize hasn’t joined the Guild yet, I thought that you already did.”
Towards Gran’s question, Mize nods.
“I haven’t registered yet…Last month, when Elysia was attacked, I couldn’t do anything…I thought that even if I registered at the Guild, I wouldn’t be able to do anything…But now, I’ve learned a lot since that time…I thought, maybe this time I can try again.”
Apparently, Mize has been thinking about last month’s incident.
I felt guilty as she spoke with a downcast look in her eyes.
After all, the event last month was a play that I orchestrated.
It seems that I have caused some problems for Mize with that play.
“You’re taking it too seriously. Neither Gran nor I…nor Tweight were able to do anything on that day. It’s not just Mize’s fault.”
“That’s right. I ran away along with Mize…I’m interested in signing up at the Guild, so let’s go!”
Elysia consoled her, and Gran cheered her up.
I nodded my head to agree with the two.
“Thank you very much…Well then, I’ll show you around!”
With a renewed vigour in her expression, Mize led us with light steps.
Even though she seems to have been depressed by the incident last month, she is still pursuing her dream of becoming an adventurer.
After a short walk through the castle town, we arrived in front of a large, two-storey building.
The Adventurer’s Guild— an organization which offers jobs to the city’s adventurers, the so-called “Shop to commission anything”.
“We-well then, let’s go…!”
With a mixture of excitement and nervousness, Mize places her hand on the door of the Guild.
As soon as the door opened, we could hear a myriad of various chaotic voices. Just to the right, we could see a large place that resembled a cafeteria. Most of the voices we heard were coming from there.
There were round tables and chairs everywhere, where both men and women of all ages were chatting whilst shoving food and drink into their mouths.
“…I’ve never been to the Guild before, so I didn’t know that it was this lively here.”
“The exchange of information is very important for adventurers. Guilds where adventurers gather normally have an adjacent tavern to facilitate this exchange…We should probably head to the back. We can register as adventurers in the front counter over there.”
We look away from the bustling bar space and focus on the front counter.
At the same time-
“Hm?” (Tweight)
“Ah.” (Elysia)
“Geh.” (Gran)
Elysia, Gran, and I reacted in three different ways.
“You guys are…”
There were four boys in front of the counter.
One of them, a blonde-haired boy, noticed our presence and made a sound.
That boy, who wears the uniform of the Hero Course of the Bildarz Academy is…Sieg Falchion.
We have some history. After all, just last month, I fought him in a duel.
