Type-1 License and Type-2 License

Sieg Falchion. That name is still carved into my memory.

He is a legitimate son of Baron Falchion from the Kingdom of Terraria, who used to look down on the students of the Common Course, and forcefully challenged me to a duel because of his unreasonable attitude.

The publicized outcome of the duel was “A Draw”, but only Sieg and I knew the truth. In that duel, I had cut off one of Sieg’s ears and warned him, “Don’t take any further actions against the students of the Common Course ever again.”

Since then, Sieg hasn’t looked down upon any student of the Common Course.

I honestly didn’t think that he would heed my warning as sincerely as he did, considering that I effectively threatened him to do so.

“What are you guys doing here? Aren’t you from the Common Course?”

“It’s a hundred years too early for a student of the Common Course to even dream of applying to join the Guild.”

From both sides of Sieg, two boys from the Hero Course who seemed to have a bad attitude stepped forward.

Even if Sieg himself changed, it doesn’t mean that the others in the Hero Course would.

The both of them suddenly hurled insults at us, while we gave them a complicated glance.

“Sieg, that guy, didn’t you duel him?”

One of the boys says, looking at me.

Many of the students in the Hero Course are children of Noble Houses. Judging from the way he treated Sieg, the heir to a Baron House, this boy is also a noble.

But, when Sieg was called out, he had a look as if he were chewing a bitter bug.

“…We’re already finished with the procedure. Let’s go ahead and take the exam.”

With that, Sieg went ahead to the back of the Guild.

The other three followed him, while tilting their heads in confusion at Sieg’s behaviour.

“…somehow, they backed off surprisingly easily.”

Gran was already ready to start a fight, but he seems to be disappointed when the four of them walked away.

“Mize, are you okay?”

“Y-yes. I was a little startled, but I’m okay.”

Mize replied to Elysia, who was worried with a stiff expression.

She placed her hand on her chest and took a deep breath before slowly heading to the counter.

“Hello…oh, you guys are also students at the Bildarz Academy, just like those people earlier.”

“Y-yes. Today, we’re here to register as adventurers.”

“I understand. So which license would you like to apply for?”

The receptionist’s words made us tilt our heads in confusion.

Seeing our reactions, the receptionist smiled softly and gave us an explanation.

“There are two types of Adventurer’s Licenses: The Type-1 License and the Type-2 License. For the Demon King’s Legacy…or in other words, for commissions relating to Demonic Beasts, Labyrinths, and Demons, you will need to have a Type-2 License.”

I see. Apparently, the Guild distinguishes between “adventurers who can take on dangerous commissions” and “adventurers who can only take safe commissions”.

The Demon King’s Legacy consists of Demonic Beasts, Labyrinths, and Demons, and would be classified as dangerous.

It’s not something that everyone can deal with. I would say that this system seems reasonable.

“Um, there is an exam for those who will take the Type-2 License, right?”

In response to Mize’s query, the receptionist nods her head.

“Yes. In order to obtain a Type-2 License, you will need to pass the Basic Combat Ability and Magical Ability tests. However, even if you fail these, you can still obtain a Type 1 License. The only condition for the Type-1 License is that you must be at least 15 years old.”

After listening to the receptionist’s answer, we looked at each another.

The question of which license to get. Before any of use breaches this topic- Mize speaks up.

“Let’s get a Type-2 License!”

Mize says, with a sparkling look in her eyes.

“Labyrinths! We can enter the Labyrinths! That’s why we should get the Type-2 Licenses!”

“O-oh…Labyrinths, huh. Well, I hear that exploring the Labyrinths is quite an adventure.”

“Yes! Unknown materials that aren’t found on the surface, as well as a bizarre ecology! The Labyrinths are filled with all kinds of mysteries that you don’t normally see! You can’t call yourself a proper adventurer without experiencing them!”

Even though Gran looked a bit confused, Mize gave a speech overflowing with enthusiasm and excitement.

It seemed to be a bit rude to the adventurers who only had a Type-1 License, but I could sufficiently feel her excitement.

If a girl from my class is talking about it so happily, then I’m sure that it’s the right choice.

“Let’s get a Type-2 License.”

“Yes!”

Mize nodded with a large smile on her face.

And so, it was decided- we were going to take the exams for the Type-2 License.

Author’s Note:

Originally, adventurers would do “pretty much anything”, but with the advent of the Demon King’s Legacy, a distinction was formed between two types of adventurers: “Type-1 Adventurers,” who were treated the same as before, and “Type-2 Adventurers,” who were permitted to deal with the Demon Lord’s Legacy in addition to retaining their existing status.
