Ominous Signs

"Stop playing around, I'll take you to see the Void Creatures! Your favorite Void Creatures." Cesar rolled his eyes as he dragged the pouting Dorothy along the ground.

"Really? There are Void Creatures here too? Are there goldfish?" Dorothy asked in surprise.

"No goldfish, but there are a pair of Void Octopuses, which are even rarer than Void Goldfish."

"Quick, quick, let's go!"

Void Creatures are a type of marine life that has evolved the ability to float in the air, detached from the sea. They are rare and dreamlike creatures.

Actually, they are not rare; the sky is full of them. It's just that humans cannot fly, so there are few opportunities to interact with them. Occasionally, one or two can be found as remnants swept down by storms. They are called dreamlike not because they are exceptionally beautiful, but because they possess the flying ability that humans have always yearned for. Since humans invented airships, ornithopters, hot air balloons, and other flying machines, the number of captured Void Creatures has increased.

Last year, when Dorothy started elementary school, she fell in love with a flying Void Goldfish. Unfortunately, the Earl was a step too late, and it was bought by someone else. Dorothy has been harboring a grudge ever since. Now, seeing the Void Octopuses, she naturally made a big fuss.

"Brother, why can Void Creatures fly?" Dorothy asked, her eyes sparkling.

"The fourth-grade textbook explains it. They can form a black sphere inside their bodies that controls gravity. This black sphere can adjust gravity, allowing the Void Creatures to float and land at different levels in the sky. Additionally, some advanced Void Creatures can form a white sphere that controls fields, which can arbitrarily increase or decrease speed, allowing them to soar rapidly in the sky. Unlike birds, Void Creatures never need to land throughout their lives, whether alive or dead, they remain in the sky." Cesar explained.

"I'm so envious. If I implanted a gravity sphere in myself, could I float?" Dorothy mused.

"No! There have been experiments in this area, but the bloodline of Void Creatures is very stable and difficult to integrate. Only a few extremely special bloodlines can integrate these things. There are only a few people in the world who can do it."

"What about injecting the blood of Void Creatures?"

"I'm not sure. However, there have been no reports in recent years, so it's probably failed," Cesar speculated.

"What a pity! Flying with wings is so tiring. I can't even float, I can only barely glide." Dorothy pointed to the bat-wing pattern on her back.

"Be content. I've never even experienced gliding."

"Next time, I'll take you flying!" The little girl patted her flat chest and promised.

"Forget it, I'm twice as heavy as you..."

Next, Cesar specially led Dorothy to observe several species of highly venomous snakes. The little girl indicated that these snakes were incompatible with Cesar. No matter how hard he tried, the snakes paid him no attention.

Then, Dorothy pulled Cesar to the barrier of the blood bats and demonstrated what true compatibility looks like. Under Dorothy's control, the blood bats flew in neat formations and performed various ultra-difficult flight maneuvers within the narrow barrier.

Walking down the corridor, the two siblings continued to move, eventually stopping at the barrier of the 'Spiral Flies of the Demon Palace.' Unlike all the other creatures they had encountered, the two siblings stopped simultaneously and looked into the barrier as if called by a deep bloodline.

"Flies?"

Looking at the only group of flies in the entire exhibition hall, Cesar involuntarily frowned. The feeling they gave was not threatening or murderous, but rather a strange, indescribable sensation. It was almost... familiar? Cesar turned to his sister, who, usually loud and boisterous, did not scream but also frowned, staring intently at the swarm of black insects inside the barrier.

The Spiral Flies of the Demon Palace, also known as the Cannibal Flies, are highly aggressive carnivorous flies that carry multiple toxins and have strong adaptability. They feed on the flesh of living beings. Level: Extremely Dangerous! One of the most dangerous species on the continent, on par with monsters. Individually weak, but they reproduce rapidly, often attacking warm-blooded animals and laying eggs in their wounds. The larvae also feed on the host's flesh, often leading to the host's death. A pair of Demon Palace Flies can devour a wild bull in seven days. They also have significant medicinal value and are one of the creatures specifically cultivated by the Flag Corporation.

After reading this brief introduction, Cesar had a deeper understanding of these small insects. Although the description was terrifying, they did not make him feel any unease; instead, he felt a faint sense of security, something he had never experienced before. He took out a coin and pressed the feed button. On the other side, Dorothy remained silent, holding her breath and watching with wide eyes.

A baby mouse fell from the top of the sealed barrier, and a large swarm of Demon Palace Flies buzzed up, surrounding the mouse and continuously entering through its orifices. When the mouse hit the ground, no skin was visible; it was completely covered in black. In just a few seconds, the swarm of flies flew away, leaving a stark white skeleton.

Unlike the cruel and bloody scene of the little sprite feeding, this quiet and eerie moment was even more chilling. But at this moment, Cesar and Dorothy felt no discomfort, as if it were entirely natural.

During the feeding of the flies, Cesar even thought he was hallucinating. He imagined that each fly, just before pouncing on the mouse, flew to him, performed a peculiar, ceremonial gesture in the air, and then returned to the mouse.

"Brother!" After a long silence, Dorothy finally spoke, her voice slightly hoarse, "Did you see them bow to us?"

Hearing Dorothy's question, Cesar's heart involuntarily twitched, as if something had been unlocked. It was a very strange feeling, as if he had transcended everything in an instant, looking down on the world from the outermost edge of the planet. A sense of peering into the pulse of time arose, like a prophecy, and Cesar had a premonition of something ominous.

It was like pressing the start button on an unknown song. This was just the beginning, a turning point from a peaceful past to a cruel future. He did not know what would happen in the future, but he felt countless black tentacles tightly wrapping around his body, dragging him into an unseen abyss.

From this moment on, everything was different...

Breaking free from the oppressive hallucination, Cesar felt that he was different from before, but he could not pinpoint any specific changes. It seemed to be a transformation on a spiritual level...

Looking at the flies in the barrier, Cesar suddenly had the illusion that he could control them. He slightly raised his right hand, spread his fingers, and pointed at the barrier. The scattered flies immediately gathered together, forming a large black hand. Cesar clenched his fist, and the large black hand formed by the flies also clenched.

Just as Cesar was lost in thought, the fly swarm became agitated again, splitting off a smaller part to form a smaller hand. It turned out that Dorothy had also raised her small hand, separating a batch of flies from the swarm.

"This feeling is the same as when I control the blood bats," Dorothy said in surprise.

Cesar ignored his sister and focused entirely on the flies in the barrier. At this moment, countless whispers entered his ears. The voices were too small and light, as if coming from the horizon, directly entering his ears. Concentrating, he had never heard this language before, but he miraculously understood its meaning.

Hunters are watching you! Danger surrounds you! Run! Run!

The chaotic voices grew louder and more cacophonous, and Cesar could no longer distinguish the content of the noisy words, only feeling a headache. Unable to bear it any longer, he grabbed his sister's hand and fled.

"What's wrong, brother? Why are we running?" Dorothy couldn't help but ask.

"Don't talk, run! My head hurts so much, it's going to explode! I can't take it, let's get out of here." As they moved further away from the flies, the whispers in their ears continued to echo, even growing louder. 'Run! Run! Danger! Danger!...'

'Boom!'

"Ouch!"

After a violent jolt, a scream reached Cesar's ears. As they left the exhibition hall, he collided with another visitor. ...
