"Hey, Dad, are we going to use zombies in our factory too? It sounds pretty cost-effective! Much easier to manage than those dwarves." Taoleshi, bored, asked while drinking a mix of blood and juice. "Hmm... factories that produce watches and other machinery can't use them, but the logging camp might be worth a try." The Earl thought for a moment and replied.
"Why?"
"Didn't you hear about the 'Level 5 Jobs' on the radio? Level 5 jobs are those that require no brainpower at all. Do you think those brain-dead zombies can assemble extremely precise gears or perform complex mechanical work?" The Earl countered.
"Uh... even the logging camp isn't that simple. Can those brainless zombies even swing an axe to cut down trees?" Taoleshi countered.
"I'm not sure about that, but I know a few people in charge at the 'National Biological Research Institute.' They have some zombies with higher intelligence. Undead mercenaries have been around for nearly a century, and high-intelligence zombies aren't rare; they're just a bit more expensive than alien slaves. But because of their poor appearance, they don't sell well. They really are top-notch laborers!" The Earl praised them with great approval.
"Taoleshi, you have to be careful!" Cesar suddenly looked at his sister and teased, "Maybe the cotton candy you eat in the future will be made by a rotting, high-intelligence zombie uncle! Full of zombie uncle's love!"
"You!... Ugh!" Taoleshi spat out the breakfast in her mouth and looked at her mother with a pained expression, "Mom, brother is bullying me! Waaah..."
"Relax, can zombies be used in food and beverage factories? What are the standards? How to use them? These are all under discussion. Even if approved, they will have to wear disinfected isolation suits and special gloves. Don't listen to Cesar's nonsense." Nicole comforted her.
Radio: "Observation Tower report: This month, the energy fluctuations of the Earth's Pulse have increased again, with free-floating energy in the air continuously rising. Some creatures in the suburbs show signs of demonization. Citizens are advised to take precautions. If you spot any demons, please notify the Guard, the Demon Hunter Association, or the Church of Divine Retribution as soon as possible. Our city will conduct a large-scale demon cleanup next month. Citizens need not panic. ..."
"Demons? Are there any decent demons in the suburbs?" Cesar looked up at his father, puzzled. In his memory, demons were only a few in the zoo for people to visit, and the rest only existed in textbooks and news.
"Those little rats? Last week, I and my classmates went on a field trip and killed three of them!" Taoleshi gestured to a football-sized object and said with disdain.
"Your classmate isn't an ordinary human. It's normal for you to kill three together, but these rats are still a threat to ordinary people. As long as there are more than ten, even young men might struggle. Akken City's suburbs don't have powerful demons. The report mentioned just a group of field mice infected by demonic energy, and there are a lot of them." The Earl explained.
"Why did they suddenly appear? I've never heard of such a thing before." Cesar asked.
"You'll hear the answer soon." The Earl looked at Cesar with a mysterious smile.
"What are we going to hear?" The little girl persisted.
Radio: "Yesterday, the newly born god 'Bem' in the northern plains of Akken City decided to join our city government as an agricultural advisor. According to the Observation Tower's calculations, this year's autumn grain production will increase by more than double. ..."
"A new god? A god was born in the plains!" Cesar asked in disbelief, "Isn't there already one in the north? Did they not conflict?"
"The existing one is the Wind God. This time, it's a land god that governs plants." Nicole replied.
"No wonder there are rats. The 'World's Pulse' runs beneath the northern plains, not only giving birth to Bem but also stimulating the field mice. Tsk, tsk, to think it would seek refuge in Akken City. Its power must be quite weak." Cesar deduced based on limited information.
Due to the 'Fragmented Memory,' Cesar has been interested in everything related to 'extraordinary powers' since he was seven. With 'monster' parents, a 'non-human' aunt, and a blood-sucking sister, it was impossible for him to ignore these things.
"You're right. It's the weakest kind, with a small territory and limited abilities. It's more like a mascot. A fully equipped special forces team with professional equipment can easily eliminate it. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been driven to Akken City by a group of field mice. The World's Pulse is currently experiencing intense fluctuations nationwide, reaching a peak next month. Be careful, and don't get pecked by any 'mad sparrows.'" The Earl advised.
"Got it. I won't go out unless necessary. The sun is really annoying lately." Cesar pointed to his pale skin, indicating that he, a homebody, never goes out in the sun.
"Hmph, next month is a holiday. What else can we do if we don't go out?" Taoleshi said unhappily.
"Next month, an important guest will visit our home. You two stay at home and be good. This might be the only opportunity in your lives, so don't miss it."
"Who is the guest?" Taoleshi asked, and Cesar also looked at the Earl curiously.
The Earl glanced deeply at Cesar and said, "Don't ask. It's a surprise, so it's better to keep it a mystery."
The radio then broadcast a series of news items, some related to the Earl's family and some not. For example, the Empire's 'White Knight Mechanized Corps' began recruitment; the dwarves improved a certain model of steam engine; the National Alchemy Academy plans to expand by a thousand students...
"Breaking news: The 'Isaiah Lava Dragon,' which was closed for a physical examination last week, is now open for public viewing again. Interested citizens can visit the city zoo. From today until next Friday, zoo tickets will be 10% off. This news is sponsored by the 'Flower Flag Gnome Corporation.'"
"Dragon? Is it as strong as the three-headed snake I saw?" The most powerful creature Cesar had ever seen was the three-headed snake he saw at the zoo with his father when he was nine. Like the dragon in the broadcast, it was a legendary creature transported from other provinces to Akken City by the 'Flower Flag Corporation' for a six-month exhibition. The gnomes' desire for profit has reached new heights...
"I don't know." The Earl shook his head frankly, "The three-headed snake lives in a swamp, and the Isaiah Dragon lives in an active volcano. They probably never meet, so they can't be compared. Speaking of which, the three-headed snake was slightly stronger, as the dragon is still in its juvenile stage."
"Ah! I want to see the dragon! I want to see the dragon! Cesar has seen the three-headed snake, and I haven't seen anything! I'm not a real child, I'm not a real child!" Taoleshi suddenly pushed away her food tray and started throwing a tantrum.
"Idiot, don't you remember? I took you to the zoo that year. We even have a family photo!" Cesar said.
"You're the idiot! I was only two years old! How could I remember that? No, I want to go to the zoo, I want to go to the zoo! Mom, you're the best, please be kind and give me a thousand dollars!" Taoleshi knelt on the table, praying to Nicole, her hands pounding the table.
"Quiet, I have something to do with Nicole today. Cesar, take good care of your sister. Here's six hundred dollars, enough for you two." The Earl took a stack of purple bills from his wallet and handed them to Cesar, then asked, "Do you need a car? I can arrange one for you."
"No need, we'll take the bus." Cesar shook his head.
"Right, I hate that stuff. It's better to be like ordinary people and take the bus!" Taoleshi nodded in agreement.
"Alright, Cesar, take good care of this monkey, and don't let her cause trouble." Nicole smiled.
"I know, don't worry." Cesar nodded in assurance.
"Alright, we'll go first."
The Earl stood up and placed his empty cup on the table, while Nicole took the last uneaten apple.
"Brother...!" After their parents left, Taoleshi suddenly called out sweetly, then kicked her chair and pounced into Cesar's arms, "Brother, you're the best, can you give me half the money?"
"Dream on!" Cesar closed his eyes, enjoying the little girl's massage.
"No! No! It's only three hundred, less than what Elsa gives you as pocket money. Can you be kind to me?" The little girl buried her head in Cesar's chest and started rubbing her face.
"No way!"
"Okay, how about two hundred and fifty? Two hundred and fifty! No less." The little girl pulled her face away and looked at Cesar seriously.
"Two... hundred... fifty?!" Thinking of something unpleasant, Cesar gritted his teeth and said, "Go to hell! Not a cent!"
"No... Ah! You cruel demon brother!" Taoleshi cried out.
