I came to the library to experiment with the skills I seemed to have acquired.
I turned my eyes to the books on the shelf.
"Soldier's Handbook 1"
Oh? I can read it.
Or has it changed to Japanese?
I don't quite understand if this is the effect of the skill, but I'll browse through it until bedtime.
I took a book from the shelf and started reading.
It seems to be a basic educational text for soldiers.
From physical training to improve stamina to swordsmanship and other combat training, and methods for gathering herbs, it covers basic courses.
It feels like a list of miscellaneous tasks for new recruits.
I remember being told that the first two months of military service are spent as trainees here, followed by practical training in local units as new soldiers.
This book must teach everything a new soldier needs to know.
As I was reading, it was getting close to bedtime, so I went back to my bed.
"Bu, Bu, Bu"
Bur was doing push-ups next to the bed.
I wonder if he's been doing them since I went to the terminal?
"Alright, trainees! Go to sleep!"
The lights in the room were turned off by the senior soldiers, and it became dark.
Come to think of it, how do they secure the lighting?
It looked like a lamp, but the light was different from both fire and fluorescent lights.
It must be magic, right?
Still, "go to sleep" is quite a command.
I thought about this while lying down to rest from the fatigue.
I feel like I can sleep soundly.
...
......
.........
I woke up feeling refreshed, but it was still dark.
That's strange, I feel like I slept for a long time. It feels like I had a deep sleep.
I kept tossing and turning in bed.
I'm not sleepy.
This is bad. I might be too excited to fall asleep.
"Pu... Piu..."
I heard a slightly cute snore from below.
Out of boredom, I peeked and saw Bur snoring with a snore light.
Do people in this world not find this fancy...?
Well... I'm so bored.
I got out of bed, intending to go to the bathroom.
Since this is a different world, I shouldn't worry too much about these things.
"Huh? Who's there?"
A senior soldier who seemed to be on guard was sitting outside the room.
"I'm going to the bathroom."
I answered, pretending to be a low-ranking recruit.
"Alright."
"Also, I can't sleep, so can I talk to someone or study in the library?"
"You...?"
Ah, I'm being looked at with exasperation.
"Well, if you have that much energy, why don't you do a marathon?"
"That's fine. Can you please make sure my partner doesn't get punished?"
I have too much energy, and it's too dark and boring.
A little fatigue would be good.
Where did my muscle pain go?
The effect of increased stamina recovery is too strong.
"That's a good attitude. Run 10 laps around the schoolyard! If you can still say the same thing after that, I'll allow you to use the library."
"Sure thing."
I have too much energy, so it's fine.
...Is it the effect of increased stamina recovery?
Anyway, I ran around the schoolyard as instructed.
When I finished, I approached the senior soldier who was dozing off.
"Hmm... Are you done?"
"Yes."
"I was watching from the window. You're slow, but you have stamina. Aren't you tired?"
I was thinking it might be because of the terrible-smelling food that I couldn't sleep.
I'll explain the facts.
"Well... I've acquired the skill to increase stamina recovery."
"You... You don't need to allocate points to that skill. Are you an idiot?"
It's a skill you don't need.
In a game sense.
Despite its amazing effect?
"Anyway, this is the application for using the library at night. But... you should rest when you can, or your body won't hold up."
That's true... but the fatigue is gone, and I'm not sleepy.
I filled out the form, and the text in my head was translated into Japanese.
I feel like I'm writing in a language that's not Japanese, but it must be a conversion to match the other person.
So, I went to the library to get a book, brought the one I was reading to the senior soldier, and started reading.
The senior soldier seemed to be on guard in shifts.
While I was reading, the next guard came and looked at me with exasperation.
The next senior soldier seemed to like card games.
He scolded me for looking bored while reading and started spreading out cards.
I'm not sure about the rules of the cards in this different world, but it seems similar to Uno.
After learning a bit of the rules and playing a few rounds, he seemed to be in a good mood and smiled.
In the meantime, I finished reading the book.
I was a bit worried about all the things I needed to memorize, but I was moderately tired, so I returned the book to the library and went to sleep.
After a while...
"Rise and shine!"
A senior soldier came to the room where the new soldiers were sleeping and shouted.
It was a very loud voice.
Everyone woke up with very sleepy faces.
"Morning training! You guys! Take your gear and run 20 laps around the schoolyard!"
Wow. This is tough.
But it's just right since I was awake from a nap.
The others, who seem to have recovered like me, started the marathon quite lightly.
...I can only marvel at the power of skills.
I realized that the first day, which was hell, was just the beginning.
It's tough and painful, but the fatigue goes away with a little rest.
It's like the amazing version of the energy I had when I was a kid.
My stamina doesn't last long, but it recovers quite a bit with a short rest, and I repeat this cycle.
After panting and finishing 20 laps, we did morning cleaning, and we were made to clean the room until it sparkled... and then finally, breakfast.
I was given very hard bread and strange soup.
After that, it was time for lectures.
"First, I will teach you the military basics of the Relaria Kingdom and the spirit of a soldier! Everyone, repeat after me!"
That's how it went, and we were made to memorize and repeat the country's military oath, which made me realize I was really in a different world's army.
Ah, Bur only says "Bu."
I'm not sure if it's a dialect, but the senior soldiers gave up.
Understanding a different world's language seems to be a skill only I, a Japanese person, have.
If I improve this skill, will I be able to understand Bur's words?
After that, we had a class on the skills we should learn as soldiers.
It was about what effects these skills have.
"Stamina Recovery... Remember, this is a skill you don't need to take! You'll eventually acquire it without allocating points if you train here."
You can acquire some skills without allocating points in the terminal!
Do you not know the conditions for automatic acquisition?
"Yes."
"What is it, Trainee Totsuka?"
"What are the conditions for automatic acquisition? I haven't studied this area enough yet..."
"Hmm... Good question. For Stamina Recovery, there are individual and racial differences, but for humans, it's said that you can acquire Level 1 at Level 20 after three months of training."
...I see.
From my current Level 1, it seems like it will take a while to acquire.
So, it's not a loss to take it.
It's too difficult for me now.
"Thank you!"
"Let's continue. As your level increases, you'll automatically acquire it, and your stamina recovery speed will increase accordingly. Moreover, you'll get other excellent skills!"
I know!
But I wanted to recover from fatigue now, so it couldn't be helped.
For a Japanese person, it's convenient that deep breathing helps recover from oxygen deprivation faster!
I grumbled to myself while attending the class.
