Chapter 8

This newly opened lamb skewer stall was clearly much more upscale and grand than Ye Chui’s. The charcoal grills were all high-end equipment used in restaurants. The two stall owners, dressed in brand new white coats, were busy behind the grills, and a new banner stood above them: "Premium Lamb Skewers."
The stall was so meticulously set up and directly opposite Ye Chui’s, making their intention to snatch business all too obvious. When Ye Chui’s tricycle arrived, the two men on the opposite side gave him a few provocative looks. Ye Chui was slightly taken aback but then smiled faintly and nodded in greeting, showing no concern at all. This reaction left the two men on the other side quite stunned.
They had expected Ye Chui to be angry and come over to confront them, and they had already prepared their arguments. But Ye Chui’s reaction... it was a bit unexpected. It seemed that Ye Chui didn’t take them seriously at all?
In fact, Ye Chui really didn’t take them seriously. Lamb skewers, though they seemed simple, were a classic delicacy that had evolved over countless years. The cooking methods might seem easy, but they weren’t something that could be mastered with just a rough approach. The techniques for flipping and controlling the heat were all specialized, and Ye Chui’s method even used some secret ingredients. In terms of taste, these inferior knock-offs couldn’t compare.
The sky had already turned completely dark, and the night market was gradually getting busier.
When some of Ye Chui’s regular customers came to patronize his stall, they were surprised to find that another lamb skewer stall had appeared.
"Someone actually opened another lamb skewer stall? Are they here to snatch business?"
"But their lamb skewers seem to taste pretty good too."
"Since there’s such a long queue here, let’s go try a couple of skewers from the other side first."
With so many people queuing up at Ye Chui’s stall, some who were eager to eat couldn’t wait and went to buy a few skewers from the other side to try. In the first half hour, the number of customers at the opposite stall was almost as many as at Ye Chui’s.
The smell of grilled lamb skewers, though the seasonings might differ, was not much different. It was hard for non-professional foodies to tell the difference. At first, the opposite stall was quite successful in snatching business, but Ye Chui remained calm and focused on grilling his skewers. After an hour, the difference between the two stalls became apparent.
The queue in front of Ye Chui’s stall was as long as ever, while the opposite stall had far fewer customers, and there were even times when no one came at all.
"The lamb skewers here are the best. They might not smell much different, but the taste is completely different."
"I can’t quite explain it, but the taste is just a bit different."
"It looks nice, but the skills are far inferior. If we want to eat authentic lamb skewers, we should still queue up here."
At first glance, the two types of lamb skewers didn’t seem much different, but once tasted, even ordinary people could tell which was better. Some regular customers had been coming to Ye Chui’s stall every day since he opened, and they were already familiar with the taste of his skewers. For them, the premium lamb skewers from the opposite stall were almost inedible.
The two stall owners on the opposite side were looking increasingly grim.
At this moment, a car quietly parked in a nearby street. The window rolled down, revealing Cao Kang’s somewhat cold face.
He had just left a party and had come over to take a look because he remembered the lamb skewer stall. He had expected that the money he spent on this stall would have already taken all of Ye Chui’s business. After all, his lamb skewer stall was managed by a high-end chef from the Wanlai Fu restaurant, which was far superior to a street vendor’s skills. He wasn’t particularly concerned about the matter; he just wanted to see Ye Chui’s face of failure and frustration.
As he looked over, Cao Kang was still thinking about how carefree and casual he was.
Fang Jun, sitting in the passenger seat, had a rare opportunity to go out with this young master because of the lamb skewer stall. He was now in Cao Kang’s car, following him over. When Cao Kang looked over, Fang Jun said confidently, "The method of grilling lamb, though long lost, was studied by my master. Using top-grade spices for seasoning, I slightly improved my master’s method, and the taste is top-notch. Crushing this small lamb skewer stall is no problem at all... Hey, what’s wrong, Young Master Cao?"
As he spoke, Fang Jun suddenly noticed that Cao Kang had a dazed expression, as if he had seen something unbelievable.
Fang Jun was puzzled and also looked over at the night market.
Ye Chui’s stall was directly opposite the one he managed. On one side, the queue was long, while on the other, there were few customers. The difference was obvious. At this rate, not only would they not snatch Ye Chui’s business, but they probably wouldn’t even reduce his income.
"What’s going on? Didn’t you say your lamb skewers would easily snatch his business?" Cao Kang’s surprise turned to anger, and he turned to look at Fang Jun with a furious expression.
Fang Jun’s face also turned anxious. "I... I don’t know what’s going on. Maybe he has too many regular customers... Don’t worry, Young Master Cao, I have a way to snatch the customers!"
"What way? Speak up!" Cao Kang asked sternly.
"We can lower the price of the lamb skewers. This way, we can definitely snatch the customers!" Fang Jun, who had some business acumen, quickly suggested, "After all, we just want to crush the opponent. Whether we make a profit or not is secondary. It’s no problem to lower the price a bit!"
"Then what are you waiting for? Get them to lower the price right away!" Cao Kang almost shouted through gritted teeth.
Fang Jun hurriedly took out his phone.
It was already eight o’clock in the evening, and Ye Chui’s business was as bustling as ever. But at this moment, the owner of the opposite lamb skewer stall suddenly shouted loudly.
"Premium lamb skewers, only one yuan per skewer, cheap and delicious!"
"One yuan per skewer, don’t miss out as you walk by!"
Ye Chui’s lamb skewers were two yuan per skewer, and the opposite stall was also two yuan per skewer before. But now, the price had suddenly been halved, with no reduction in quantity. Seeing this, some customers began to waver...
