"Ah?" Meng Gui quickly turned around and found a big-eyed, pretty girl standing by the door of the women's restroom, looking at him with a look of wanting to run away.
Seeing the girl wearing a red plaid long coat, Meng Gui immediately recalled... she was the girl among the two boys and one girl who had not left the classroom by the stairs. He didn’t expect her to be so brave, actually daring to come to the restroom alone!
Now things were complicated. If she ran out and started shouting, wouldn’t Meng Gui be caught as a pervert peeping in the women's restroom? Even if the fifth floor of the 10th teaching building was empty, there were still a few students on the floors below, and the school had security patrols at night...
"Pervert!" As soon as the girl realized the situation, she instinctively shouted and ran out of the women's restroom, just as Meng Gui had expected.
With no other choice, Meng Gui quickly activated a Ghost Domain, forcibly pulling the girl inside, and used a Door Lock Card to lock the women's restroom from the outside. Then he used a Soundproof Card to isolate all sounds inside the restroom from the outside world.
The girl in the red plaid coat was terrified when the restroom door suddenly closed. She tried to open it but couldn’t, and after a few more screams, she turned around, leaning against the door, her face pale and her expression extremely tense, staring at Meng Gui... At this moment, Meng Gui was not his true self but Meng Po’s fierce ghost avatar. However, he didn’t pretend to be a ghost and still maintained his previous appearance.
There was no need to scare an innocent stranger, right?
"I’m not a pervert. I’m actually... a lay practitioner who catches ghosts. My master told me there’s a ghost here, so I came to practice catching her." Meng Gui’s ghost avatar spread his hands, making up some reasons to explain to her. Meanwhile, his true self took the opportunity to slip out of the restroom and quickly ran down the stairs of the 10th teaching building.
The girl didn’t speak, just continued to stare at Meng Gui nervously.
"Before you came, there was no one in this restroom. If I were a pervert, who would I be perverting against? Now that you’re here, I haven’t done anything to you, right? I’m really just a ghost catcher, please believe me." Meng Gui didn’t know how to explain to the girl.
"Since that’s the case, open the door and let me out." After half a minute, the girl finally spoke to Meng Gui.
Meng Gui’s true self had already escaped the building, and the Ghost Domain could be closed at any time, as could the fierce ghost avatar. At this point, he wasn’t afraid of the girl shouting and getting him caught as a pervert. After a moment of silence, Meng Gui pointed and canceled the Door Lock Card, opening the restroom door.
Seeing the restroom door open, the girl walked out, seemingly letting out a long sigh, her expression easing a bit. She turned and looked at Meng Gui slightly nervously but didn’t shout.
"Thank you for believing me." Meng Gui’s ghost avatar cautiously followed the girl out of the restroom. Although his true self had escaped, he didn’t want to offend her, knowing that his appearance had already been remembered by her.
"Are you really... a little Taoist who came to catch ghosts?" The girl, standing away from Meng Gui in the corridor outside the restroom, glanced nervously towards the stairs and asked him, but didn’t seem to want to run away immediately, possibly because she realized he had no ill intentions towards her.
"Yes." Meng Gui looked at the girl curiously. She was incredibly brave to come to the restroom alone at this time. Moreover, after encountering him and seeing him lock and unlock the door from a distance, she still dared to stay and talk to him instead of running away, which was not something an ordinary girl could do.
"How do I know you’re a ghost catcher and not a ghost? You... can lock and unlock doors from a distance..." The girl’s voice trembled as she asked Meng Gui a few questions but didn’t seem to want to leave.
"A ghost catcher naturally has some skills that ordinary people don’t have, otherwise, how could they catch ghosts?" Meng Gui explained to the girl.
"What will you do to the ghost after you catch her?" The girl asked after a moment of silence, her expression becoming somewhat worried.
Meng Gui found the girl increasingly strange... What was going on with her? Why was she so concerned about the ghost?
"Don’t be surprised, the ghost you’re talking about... is actually my sister." The girl’s eyes shimmered with tears as she explained to Meng Gui.
"Your sister?" Meng Gui felt a bit relieved after hearing the girl’s words.
"Before you came to catch her, you should have already known, right? Her name is Gu Ling. My name is Gu Qin. I came to this university, and every night I come here alone because I heard about the ghost, hoping to see my sister and understand some things, but I’ve never been able to see her." The girl lowered her head, her expression somber.
"Oh... I see..." Meng Gui nodded.
"You still haven’t answered me, what will you do to her after you catch her?" Gu Qin looked up at Meng Gui, her expression filled with worry.
"I’ll just take her away from the teaching building and won’t harm her." Meng Gui, hearing Gu Qin’s words, naturally wouldn’t say anything about killing the ghost, and the system task didn’t require it.
"Really?" Gu Qin’s worried and nervous emotions finally eased a bit.
"I can promise you that." Meng Gui, moved by Gu Qin’s sisterly affection, made a commitment to her.
"Thank you... Then... how can you see her? I come here every night after class, but... I’ve never been able to meet her..." Gu Qin looked at Meng Gui with some expectation.
"By keeping watch! If you hadn’t barged in and mistaken me for a pervert, I would have stayed here all night, waiting for her to appear." Meng Gui spread his hands and explained to Gu Qin.
"Will you... continue to keep watch for her now?" Gu Qin, hearing Meng Gui’s words, became a bit anxious.
"Do you believe me now? Do you no longer think I’m a pervert?" Meng Gui confirmed with Gu Qin again.
"Yes... I’m sorry..." Gu Qin sincerely apologized to Meng Gui.
"I’m actually just a phantom created by a talisman. My true self escaped the building earlier to avoid being caught as a pervert. Now that you no longer doubt me, I’ll have my true self come back to continue keeping watch. I’ll stay here until she appears." Meng Gui explained to Gu Qin.
"Phantom? That’s amazing... Then... quickly bring your true self back..." Gu Qin looked at Meng Gui and glanced around the corridor, still slightly nervous.
"Okay, he’s already on his way up the stairs." Meng Gui told Gu Qin.
A few minutes later, the ten-minute Ghost Domain ended, and Meng Gui’s avatar disappeared, but his true self had just walked up from downstairs and met Gu Qin, who was still waiting outside the restroom.
The girl was very beautiful, almost at the level of a campus beauty. She was extremely nervous but pretending to be calm, which made Meng Gui feel a bit sympathetic.
"It’s late now. I can keep watch here alone. You should go back to your dormitory. If you have anything you want to say to your sister, I can pass it on to her when I meet her." Meng Gui told Gu Qin.
Tears streamed down Gu Qin’s face as she looked into the restroom and then lowered her head, hesitating to speak.
"Is there something you want to tell me about your sister’s death? Maybe... I can help in some way?" Meng Gui asked Gu Qin.
It was quite eerie to be alone here in the middle of the night, and having a pretty girl to chat with would make it much better. Since he was going to stay here all night anyway, a few extra minutes didn’t matter.
