Chapter 12. Song Yan’s Acting Skills Were So Sloppy

Yu Ze woke up from the sea of black; his head somewhat dizzy, he could only slowly sit up.

He lowered his head to glance at his hands, and immediately knew the result – they hadn’t switched back. He was still using Song Yan’s body.

Lying some distance away, Song Yan let out a groan. Yu Ze thought that they’d only been unconscious for a few seconds, not long. Not long enough for the staff to intervene.

He walked over, sat next to Song Yan. Song Yan also opened his eyes to look at him.

The moment Song Yan saw Yu Ze, his eyes dimmed for a split second, a single soundless curse from his lips: “I’m dreaming, right? Nightmare.”

Yu Ze shook his head, he helped Song Yan up. Both of them were too depressed, unable to even speak.

They came out from the laboratory and rested for a bit. For today’s experiment, neither of them had ate anything – to prevent from vomiting during the simulated earthquake and collision. After the repetitive torture, they were hungry and thirsty.

They continued to discuss what to do in the lounge of the lab. Yu Ze called for a cup of hot tea; Song Yan laid down on the couch, the collision hadn’t been light.

“I think I’m going to hurl,” Song Yan muttered.

Yu Ze held the tea in his hands. “Was the impact too strong? Would you like a doctor to take a look?”

“No,” Song Yan replied, “I was just thinking that we might never switch back…” He gave Yu Ze a knowing look.

Yu Ze poured a cup of tea for him, pressed it into his hands, “Let’s try it again later.”

Song Yan slowly sat up, “Of course I want to try many times in a row, but can your body physically stand it?” He was referring to Yu Ze’s body.

But hanging their heads in dismay was no option, they decided to try again.

“We mustn’t be distracted!” Song Yan said, “This time, we must concentrate all our attention. The first two failures were probably because I was distracted, was too worried about not succeeding.

Yu Ze expressed that he couldn’t understand, “This is already like some kind of ascetic practice, perhaps even borderline occult.”

“This,” Second Young Master Song said, as he pointed at their bodies, “is already metaphysics.”

“Then, is it that we need our brain waves to be the same?” Yu Ze asked.

Song Yan extended his hand, and the two of them silently grasped the other’s hand – their own hand really – as if to draw some strength of support from the other. Neither of them thought about what would happen if they didn’t change back.

The laboratory staff were still waiting for them. To the eyes of the staff though, Second Young Master Song seemed to be doing something extremely mindless, boring, and cruel – simulating an earthquake, and then knocking the poor Film Emperor over again and again.

But what was weird, was how both of them were doing it with utmost seriousness. The Film Emperor wasn’t even a bit resentful, was even as absorbed as Second Young Master Song was.

What exactly they were “studying”, no one knew, because they had nothing to observe, other than some basic physiological data. It was inevitable for several to wonder, if this was some new fetish of the rich and powerful that no one knew about……

Yu Ze and Song Yan tried a total of six times that day. After the last time, they could only give up for the time being. If they continued like that, they would really end up with concussions.

They left the lab just as Song Qi’s assistant came to get Yu Ze. Song Qi wanted his younger brother to have a meal with him.

“You go ahead,” Song Yan told Yu Ze, “I want to calm for a bit.”

Yu Ze really didn’t want to go eat with Song Qi. His heart was also a mess, he had thought he was only temporarily dealing with the Song Family. Now, he had no idea how much longer he’d have to live as Second Young Master Song.

Song Yan again warned him, “If he doesn’t mention about Dad and Mom divorcing, you don’t mention it either. See what he says first.”

Yu Ze paused, then said, “Yes.”

“Where are you going?” He again asked Song Yan.

“I need to go home and lie down….think about what’s next.” Song Yan replied, “Come see me after you have dinner with Song Qi. Okay?”

Yu Ze agreed.

While having lunch with Song Qi, Yu Ze’s thoughts kept wandering. He could only mindlessly agree with Song Qi.

Song Qi had been talking about a recent merger. Seeing barely any response from his younger brother, who seemed to have wandered off into space, he finally put down his chopsticks, looked carefully at the person opposite him, and asked, “What exactly did you take Yu Ze to the lab for?”

Only then did Yu Ze become more alert, he smiled as he said, “That’s a secret between me and Yu Ze.

Song Qi wrinkled his brows, his voice a whisper, “You and him…..”

“Nothing between us,” Yu Ze replied.

“I don’t care whether you have a relationship or not,” Song Qi said, “It doesn’t matter what you do with him. But don’t you do anything excessive, if it spreads, there won’t be a good effect.”

“Have I ever done anything too excessive?” Yu Ze asked him in return.

Only then did Song Qi’s expression somewhat relax as he answered, “That you haven’t.”

Yu Ze felt somewhat amused in his heart.

“But you and Yu Ze seem quite familiar,” Song Qi asked, his voice indifferent.

“Why? You want to know him?” Yu Ze asked.

“That I don’t,” Song Qi said, “He’s not my type – I thought you also didn’t like that type. He should be a beta. I don’t like beta, too stiff.”

Yu Ze listened to his manner of tone, it seemed that the two brothers discussed intimate topics in private rather frequently.

Sure enough, Song Qi continued, “Are Yu Ze and Lu Qiu Yi friends? Have Yu Ze help me ask him out. Or we could eat together next time.”

Yu Ze had worked with Lu Qiu Yi before, he was a rather pretty Omega. He and Yu Ze were merely just nodding acquaintances, not particularly close. But it wasn’t too much to have a meal together.

“You want to get to know Lu Qiu Yi?” Yu Ze asked.

“I want to keep* him,” Song Qi replied, his tone unconcerned as usual.

* keep –> raise/keep –> Song Qi wants to be Liu Qiu Yi’s patron, or sugar-daddy

Yu Ze almost threw his chopsticks at his face.

Song Qi added, “You can let Yu Ze first ask him his opinion.”

Yu Ze felt his anger slowly rise, his face about to burn, he coldly said, “Yu Ze is not a pimp.”

Song Qi immediately understood his meaning, he said, “You are rather protective of Yu Ze. If you don’t want to ask, so be it. I’ve plenty of ways to get to know Lu Qiu Yi.”

Yu Ze knew that what he said was true.

Song Qi again looked at him, “But what are you so busy with lately? I’ve heard that you’ve practically left company matters to the people below, you even rarely show up. You don’t even call home, do you know about Mom?”

Yu Ze nodded. Song Qi continued, “I can’t even understand what she’s thinking. Dad argued with her twice, and both of them found their lawyers to talk. It’ll be back and forth, I estimate. I think it’ll be best if Mom would just give up on this notion.”

“I think that’s her own business,” Yu Ze said.

Song Qi practically shot him a glare. “What are you talking about? She is Song Ruo Zuo’s wife, what good would removing that name bring her? Hmm?”

All of the sudden suspicious, he asked, “You didn’t encourage her to want a divorce, did you?”

Yu Ze immediately denied it.

Yu Ze had no intention of arguing right there with Song Yan’s older brother. The man in front of him was similar in appearance to Song Yan, but their temperaments were different; he was much more spiteful than Song Yan, his words quick and cold. He was obviously a formidable player in the business world, and would probably be even more of a wily old fox* in 20 years.

* 老奸巨猾 crafty old scoundrel, shrewd and crafty, great hypocrite, old hand at trickery, sly wily old fox

Yu Ze absent-mindedly wondered if Song Yan would become like that one day, cruel and indifferent, as if he was the only one noble in the world*.

* 唯我獨尊 idiom; as if only one noble in the world, egoistical, full of himself

The lunch ended in a hurry, Song Qi gave his brother a task: “You call Mom, persuade her. She doesn’t listen to my advice, always says that Dad and I are on the same page. She’ll listen more to you. Divorce will not bring her any benefit, there aren’t any profits for any of us.”

“I can pass that on, but she may not listen to it,” Yu Ze replied.

Song Qi impatiently waved his hand, “Just go.”

Yu Ze left Song Qi’s office and went straight to Song Yan’s villa, He had a whole belly full of feelings to vent at Song Yan, especially about the matter of Lu Qiu Yi.

As soon as they met, Song Yan immediately asked, “Did he mention the divorce?

Yu Ze roughly explained what happened. Song Yan said, “I see….can you call my Mom for me, and talk to her again?”

Yu Ze flared up, “Why do I have to talk to her? Can’t she get a divorce?”

Song Yan was surprised; it was the first time he had ever seen Yu Ze angry, truly angry.

“What’s up with you?” He asked, “I’m just asking you to make a phone call, didn’t ask you to talk her out of it…..”

He recovered from the shock. “Besides, she’s my Mom! Do you know how much I want to say to her now! So what if I want to persuade her? You are the outsider of the Song Family!”

Yu Ze knew that he himself was taking out his anger at Song Qi on the Song Yan in front of him.

“Do you think I want to mix into the Song Family’s affairs?” He asked, honest, “Your brother wants me to be a pimp. He asked me, Yu Ze, to ask Lu Qiu Yi if he would like to be kept by him. He really is……”

Finally, he could not help himself, “Bastard.”

“He really said that?” Song Yan asked, “No! Way! Right!?”

Yu Ze looked at the him slumped on the recliner. “No need to pretend to be surprised. I can see through your acting skills at first glance.”

Song Yan was somewhat embarrassed as he replied, “That’s indeed something he would do. He’s obsessed with efficiency to some point now. It’s likely that he came up with the idea just this morning, felt that this was the fastest, most convenient.”

Yu Ze shook his head. “Don’t defend him. Have you have done this for him more than once? Did you ask Qiao Ruo Ming to help him…..”

Yu Ze thought of Qiao Ruo Ming being an eight facet treasure* at the party.

* 八面玲瓏 idiom; deals in eight different facets; eight facet treasure; be smooth and slick in socializing, just as if one has eight faces

At that moment, Song Yan really stamped his feet in anger, “No! I swear I haven’t! Absolutely had not!”

Yu Ze looked at him, full of doubts, as if he was looking at a giant beetle from Kafka’s Metamorphosis*.

* The Metamorphosis, written by Kafka, tells the story of a salesman, who wakes up one morning to find himself transformed into a giant insect

Song Yan felt a sudden throb of hurt in his heart, he angrily said, “If I lied, then let me never again be Song Yan for a lifetime!”

Yu Ze at last, gently nodded his head, “I believe you.”

Just as he had said, Song Yan’s acting skills were so sloppy, he could see right through them. If Song Yan’s current worry and sorrow was just him acting, then Song Yan should really go be an actor. This could only be his true feelings.

“But,” Yu Ze said, with a smile, “it seems that being me for the rest of your life is your biggest fear, more miserable than being struck by lightning.”

Song Yan realized he’d accidentally stepped on another landmine.

Translator has something to say:

And so they failed! And there’s stupid Song Yan digging holes left and right for himself, again =.= That aside, Song Qi is quite unexpectedly interesting; someone who seems like he arranges his schedules down to the last minute, but also someone quite willing to be a sugar-daddy. Hm.

There might not be an update next week (both for this and for LML). I don’t have a laptop right now. The boys also make important decisions during the next two chapters, and I don’t want to half-ass them on my phone. If I do update tho, then it would probably be later in the week.

See you all next time ~ (hopefully soon) T.T
