Chapter 13. I Don’t Agree!

Song Yan finally realized that all the misunderstandings about him, had all came from this mouth of his. He was never cautious when speaking, was always stepping on landmines. Fortunately, as he had the backing of the Song Family, he’d yet to be stuffed into a burlap bag and given a knocking.

But still, while the him from before didn’t care about whose injured foot he stepped on*, Yu Ze was different. After all, he was using the other person’s body right now.

* metaphor here, for weak point

“That wasn’t what I meant….” Song Yan at once tried to remedy.

Yu Ze only laughed, he hadn’t really taken Song Yan’s words to heart.

“You’re right, it’s too scary for you to be inside my body all the time…..” Yu Ze teased, before letting out a long, soft sigh.

“What should we do next?” He then asked Song Yan.

“We’ll try again,” Song Yan said, “I don’t believe we can’t change back! Anyways, I can use that lab whenever I want, they’re also good at keeping things confidential, no one will say anything.”

Yu Ze wasn’t worried about how the lab workers would look at them; he was worried about something else.

“If we continue to try, we’ll need to break off for a few days; the estrus period is coming up.”

Song Yan’s face was full of distrust. “So soon? Has it been two months since we switched?”

“Yes.” Yu Ze replied, “We are also an Alpha and an Omega, so if there are often violent collisions…it’s quite possible to trigger an estrus that is quite intense.”

Only then did Song Yan remember this piece of common sense. It was almost summer; that hot, humid and dangerous season. An Alpha with an Omega in estrus, together, in a confined space with continuous physical contact…..even if there were inhibitors, problems were still likely to occur.

Neither of them could look directly into the other’s eyes; could only look in the general direction of the other.

“That, the experiment can still wait.”

“Yeah. Can wait.”

“Oh yes….do you have any other ideas? About what else we can do? Something less intense…..”

“How about meditation?” Song Yan abruptly asked.

He, freed from the awkwardness of a moment ago, suddenly became excited; this was a rather good idea.

“Meditation?

“Yes, yoga and meditation,” Song Yan replied, “The movements ain’t too intense, but it’s also worth a try, right? Our souls might be able to change back at some moment of emptiness!”

Yu Ze silently held doubts in his heart, but like Song Yan said, anything was worth a try. Besides, even if it didn’t work, it was also a good workout for the body.

And he himself was actually acquainted with a few yoga instructor who could give them private instruction.

Yu Ze immediately asked Song Yan to find out the contact information of an instructor, and to give the other a call to schedule an appointment.

After Song Yan finished the arrangements, there was still a feeling of being removed from reality.

“So we still have to live as each other for some time, and for who knows how long.”

Yu Ze nodded, and said, “I’ve been meaning to ask you, but did the crew resume work already? Has the director called you?”

Previously, the earthquake had resulted in many of the crew injured and the studio damaged, and so the filming of ‘Bright’* had been temporarily halted. Now, almost two months had passed, the studio had been restored and almost everyone was able to return. It was about time for the filming to continue.

* 明亮; bright, shine, to become clear; I couldn’t think of an epic way to put it, and so I could only debate between the somewhat-not-very-epic-names of “Bright” and “Shine”

“No….” Song Yan muttered.

Yu Ze looked at him, suspicious.

“Okay. He called,” Song Yan confessed, “But I didn’t answer. What can I say to him? Do you think I can take your place and act?”

Yu Ze sat on the edge of the couch, supporting his forehead. He’d been thinking about this question for some time.

First, a miracle was needed for Song Yan to even act in the film – Song Yan had to actually be willing to act. But after that, an even greater miracle was necessary – Song Yan had to have skills, better yet, be as outstanding an actor as he himself was.

“You can’t……” Yu Ze had no choice but to face this reality. Although the original Song Yan had a decent face and body, the level of his acting was at most for reality shows, for a cameo in a movie; for him to show off his charisma. But acting for real – not a chance.

The Song Yan right now, only had his face; once he began to recite the script, the director was going to be driven crazy.

“I told your manager, Du Xin Ran, to tell the crew I need to rest for another half month,” Song Yan said, “So we still have at most half a month; the crew should wait for you to start.”

“Tell them not to wait.” Yu Ze said suddenly.

“What?” Song Yan asked.

“Even if we wait half a month, and still have not switched back, the crew will still have to select a new male lead,” Yu Ze explained calmly. “Let them have some time to prepare, let them choose the new actor earlier.”

“But you really like the script,” Song Yan protested. He remembered that Yu Ze had said that to him, had even showed him the script.

“I do like it a lot,” Yu Ze replied, “But what can I do about that.”

He forced a smile at Song Yan, “In any case, I can’t let you go destroy the script. You will definitely hurt my reputation.”

Song Yan wanted to say some words to comfort Yu Ze, but he didn’t know how to go about it. As Yu Ze looked so genuinely miserable, an indescribable sadness seemed to grip him. Song Yan couldn’t even tear his gaze away, what he saw was not his own body, but rather the Yu Ze inside; those eyes of his, that gaze of his, that was Yu Ze in there.

Song Yan thought he’d better make a joke to ease the sadness. “It would be nice if we could replace each other,” he said, “do each other’s work instead. You go make your movies, I go manage the company. But thinking about it, you making a movie as me, hahahaha…..”

Yu Ze suddenly raised his head, and asked, “Would you agree?”

Song Yan’s laughter immediately stopped.

“What?”

“Today Song Qi asked me several times,” Yu Ze began, “why didn’t I go to the company, why didn’t I care about the company’s affairs. I don’t think we can go on like this. I think you can look over the company’s documents, tell me your opinion, then I’ll convey it for you. Or you can directly work over email. After all, this is the Song Family’s business; it’s not good for me to intervene on your behalf, and also it’s not something I can do.”

Song Yan nodded. This was of course good. He had already wasted enough over this period of time; the “wasted” from “wasted time”.*

* 浪費的浪 –> the word 浪” from the phrase “浪費” –> 浪費 means “waste”; literally means lan from the phrase lan fei (but lan fei itself means waste…laughs…I tried), but it’s basically just an emphasis on the word “wasted”

But what he was more concerned with, was the other half of the story.

“And then what?” He asked, “You’re asking me to agree to what? You really want to act with my body?”

Yu Ze looked at him, and silently nodded.

“I disagree.” Song Yan said. His voice resolute.

He felt that he’d been too nice to Yu Ze over this period of time, and that was why Yu Ze didn’t seem to perceive his impulsiveness and stubbornness at all. Otherwise, how could he make such a request?

Yu Ze just looked at him, just silently looked at him.

Song Yan couldn’t help but become somewhat irritated, “What I just said, was just a joke, was just a hypothetical scenario. I don’t think it’s anything possible!”

Yu Ze shook his head, his voice soft, even somewhat weak, “Right.”

His eyes held no tears, but still seemed that much full of hidden pain.

Song Yan was silent for some time, clenched his fists, and finally said, “Don’t you ask me! No matter whose body you are using now, you are a free man. I also can’t keep an eye on you twenty four hours a day anyways. As for how the Song Family will react…..I don’t know anything!”

Those words meant that it was up to Yu Ze to do whatever he wanted.

Yu Ze immediately broke out into a smile, all that previous gloominess swept clean. He reached out, and shook Song Yan’s hand,”Then, with this, it is all settled.* I promise, I will be very careful, will not anger the Song Family or your father.”

* 一言為定 idiom; one word, and it’s all settled; it’s a deal

Seeing him in a better mood, the irritation from just before also flew away.

He suddenly wondered if he’d been tricked by Yu Ze.

“Fxck you, why…..?” he muttered.

“Why what?” Yu Ze smiled as he asked.

Song Yan shook his head, it was his mistake! Yu Ze must’ve been better than he’d imagined, better at manipulating the hearts of others. Only with such crafty acting, could he have became the Film Emperor.

Two days later, Song Yan personally called his agent and the director, to tell them that he was leaving the film. The director tried his best to keep him, but Song Yan, in an effort to be nice, expressed how sad he also was at having to quit.

The director replied that he hoped the actor would think it over a few more days; if it was because of his health, the crew was willing to wait.

But the director soon received another phone call; this call was from their biggest investor, the second son of the Song Family.

“Second Young Master Song” said that, sure enough, he still didn’t want Yu Ze playing the male lead, if Yu Ze was still used in the film, the Song Family would not be happy.

The director was bitter, and asked where could they suddenly find another male lead, Second Young Master Song didn’t really have the intention to make Qiao Ruo Ming the male lead, did he?

“I don’t think it’s necessary to cast Qiao Ruo Ming as the male lead……” Yu Ze’s tone over the phone was a perfect imitation of Song Yan’s, “As long as it’s not Yu Ze, I won’t interfere with anyone else. I’ve heard that Yu Ze himself also doesn’t want to do it anymore? Had the earthquake scared his guts out? I think that with your ability, even if you lack a Yu Ze, you won’t be unable to continue, right?”

He then softly suggested to the director, that the contract could be modified, the bonus could be increased. The director eventually accepted the change.

And so the cast of ‘Bright’ said goodbye to the Film Emperor and hurriedly began to select a new actor. This news was quick to spread. The production team confirmed the news amidst the various speculations – Yu Ze would not be playing the male lead, the crew would begin casting again.

Yu Ze’s fans, movie fans, and even the average gossiper were all shocked – Yu Ze had been seen, he seemed to have recovered, and seemed to be doing yoga over the past two days. Everyone had been expecting him to return to work and for the movie to resume filming. Didn’t think there’d be such a bolt from the blue!

Author has something to say: Next, the two will then strive to maintain their own lives 233*. Everyone please relax, Yu Ze will still take the stage using his own identity.

* 233 means big laugh

Translator has something to say: Sorry for the wait >.< If everything goes as planned, by Wednesday/Thursday, there should be six chapters up. Thank you for your patience.

Spoiler for the rest of the five chapters: A truth, an “engagement”, and the beginning of the melodrama.

(also, off topic, but for those that MTL and have nothing left to read, here’s a BL that seems to yet be on NU; it’s an adorable shounen ai (or yaoi, not sure, haven’t read it). I have no current plans to translate it; it’s called Sky Full of Stars 满天星 by 睡芒; this is the translation of the summary) (or it could be called Starry Sky, or Sky Full With Stars)
