Chapter 15. Make A Call For Me
Song Qi and Lu Qiu Yi’s gossip took over the forums.
A recent set of photos had been clearly snapped; Lu Qiu Yi and Song Qi going in and out of the same building together. Around evening, Song Qi and Lu Qiuyi had entered a building; the building was a property under Song Qi’s name and Song Qi himself lived on the top floor.
The next morning, the two had even went out for a morning run together, Lu Qiu Yi followed close behind Song Qi, and handed him a sports bottle every now and then. The two of them acted intimate, as if they already lived together.
Lu Qiu Yi had openly revealed his omega status, and had several large-scale movies under his belt, some of which even showed him during estrus. In order to make his performances more realistic, he’d even let actors temporarily mark him on camera, which caused a huge uproar at the time.
As a result, Lu Qui Yi never even cared about the comments from the public, and had went public with quite a few romances, most of which was with a wealthy Alpha. But this time was different, this time it was with the Eldest Young Master of the Song Family, Song Qi. Not the run-of-the-mill Alpha, and ever more not run-of-the-mill wealthy.
Unlike the overly playful Second Young Master, Song Qi cared more about the Song Family’s business. Therefore, the outside world had thought Song Qi would pick someone who matched his family background, that type of virtuous, worthy, able* Omega. Some years ago, he’d genuinely got engaged, but for reasons unknown, the engagement eventually fell through, and since then, he’d his head buried in work, seemingly without a significant other to reveal.
* 賢內助 saying; used to describe another’s wife; a good/ideal wife; virtuous, worthy, able
Some even guessed about Eldest Young Master Song, was he insensitive to pheromones, was he a sexually indifferent person? Because he somewhat looked like one.
No one thought that once Song Qi went public, it’d unexpectedly be with a sexy omega like Lu Qiu Yi.
At that, even the finance reporters were about to transform into gossip reporters – the Song Family recently had two large topics draw to a close, Old Mr. Song’s eighty eighth birthday was also soon, so to reveal a relationship at this time, many couldn’t help but think, could it be that Song Qi was serious about Lu Qiu Yi? If Lu Qiu Yi became Song Qi’s spouse, then how would the businesses under the Song Family be affected?
With such a big update of gossip, Second Young Master Song only having a meal with the Film Emperor, suddenly seemed too innocent, not even a bit exciting.
On this morning, Yu Ze received a message from Song Yan.
“Did you see it!!!” Song Yan’s sentence was followed by three exclamation marks. Attached was a picture of his brother Song Qi and Lu Qiu Yi together.
As soon as Yu Ze saw the photo, he immediately thought of that day, of Song Qi, his voice tranquil as he said, “I want to keep him”, just if it was something perfectly normal.
The Song Qi in the photo could be considered handsome, but Yu Ze still felt he couldn’t agree. This type of Alpha, probably treated Omega as a trophy to be plundered……that day, he’d already been uncomfortable when face-to-face with Song Qi, he hadn’t expected that even now, he still had to continue interacting with those from the Song Family.
“Already saw, your brother is sure enough as good as his word,” He replied back to Song Yan.
Song Yan again asked how the preparation for his grandfather’s gift was coming along. Yu Ze replied: “Already contacted the seller, I’m going directly to see the painting this afternoon. In addition, I personally will prepare a present, under your name.”
Song Yan was a bit confused for a moment, probably because he’d just woke up and was reclining on the bed as he sent the messages, and also, the tone behind typed words were not as clear as words directly spoken.
“Whose name? Yu Ze’s?” He asked.
“Yours, the name “Song Yan”. Why would I use the name “Yu Ze” to give a present?” Yu Ze replied.
On the bed, Song Yan flipped over onto his stomach, that was true, it was him who’d got all confused for a moment.
Yu Ze sent another message: “See you at four in the afternoon.” After sending Song Yan a location, he went out to prepare.
Song Yan also went out, he went to a charity event. This was an event that Yu Ze instructed him to must attend – this was a ceremony to show support to the disaster relief for the earthquake. As Song Yan had donated ten million yuan on the behalf of Yu Ze, he therefore had to attend.
Because it was summer, and just a charity event, everyone was dressed simple; the charity’s T-shirt on top, with a pair of jeans. Song Yan went onstage with a group of children, for photos. When he was Second Young Master Song, he’d also frequently attended these sorts of events; this was easier than shooting a movie, he only had to flash that charming smile of his. Song Yan smiled, confident and cheerful, and also occasionally gave high lifts to the children.
It was rare for the reporters to see such a lively, cheerful Film Emperor; they all focused on Song Yan and furiously snapped away.
There were also some that took the opportunity to ask Song Yan about the movie.
“Teacher Yu! Did you leave “Bright” due to conflicts with the investing party?”
Song Yan did not respond at all, just smiled and continued with the activity.
Some saw a Film Emperor in high spirits, yet there were others who saw a love rival flaunting his strength.*
* 耀武揚威 idiom; to show off military strength; to strut around; to bluff
Qiao Ruo Ming had also came to the event. He was here to represent his record label, and had sang a song right before Yu Ze entered the stage, but just as he got off the stage, he saw “Yu Ze” up there, like a moon adoringly cupped by stars.*
* 眾星捧月 idiom; from the Analects; all the stars cup themselves around the moon; to group around a revered leader; to view somebody as core figure; the word “cup” is reverently meant, as in “to hold something carefully, reverently with the palms of your hands”
Qiao Ruo Ming’s sudden anger didn’t come from just one source. He hadn’t seen Song Second ever since the party last time, when Second Young Master Song had quietly slipped away. Although Song Second had brought him a sports car, the person himself never showed up, only the accountant had came to see him.
Then the gossip revealed, Second Young Master Song and Yu Ze had another meal together in private. Qiao Ruo Ming had seen it.
After Song Yan got down from the stage, he went towards the lounge next to the event venue for a rest, and also to wait for a driver to bring the car around. He had arranged to meet with Yu Ze.
As he was now the Film Emperor, several volunteers asked Song Yan for his autograph. Qiao Ruo Ming went over, just as Song Yan was signing his name.
With a face full of gloom, he said, “Let’s talk.”
It wasn’t like Song Yan hadn’t thought of Qiao Ruo Ming over this period of time, but even so, he hadn’t told Qiao Ruo Ming about what was up, and in the end, he just gradually got used to it. So now, upon seeing Qiao Ruo Ming today, he instinctively knew it wasn’t for anything good.
“Xiao Qiao,” Song Yan said, he looked at the staff gathered around them, “Let’s talk privately.”
They went to a place they wouldn’t be overheard. Qiao Ruo Ming immediately said, “Teacher Yu, I really respect you a lot!” The word “respect” was said with rage and forced from gritted teeth.
Song Yan laughed, this was yet the first time he’d seen Qiao Ruo Ming so fierce with him.
“But now I’ve realized, you really are not worthy of my respect,” Qiao Ruo Ming said.
Song Yan was calm, unruffled, “Why?”
In the past, he had really liked Qiao Ruo Ming.
Qiao Ruo Ming said, “You know very well why.”
“Song Yan and I are innocent,” Song Yan replied, with humor, “You have to believe us. Even if we went out to eat together a few times.”
It would’ve been alright if he hadn’t said the word “innocent”, but once he said the word, Qiao Ruo Ming was suddenly irritated, he felt that from this tone of Yu Ze’s, it was clear that he’d something going on with Song Yan! And he also seemed to be mocking him.
He glared, and reproached him, “Song Yan is my boyfriend! What type of underhanded trick did you use to seduce Song Yan?”
He swore a string of expletives that would be entirely silenced on television.
Song Yan listened, somewhat muddled. The Qiao Ruo Ming in front of him was always that lovable, soft Omega, even if he’d sometimes had a temper, he was only acting for attention, just like how words spoken sounded better than words sung.* Never had he ever heard Qiao Ruo Ming swear, and also swear such dirty words; in the end Yu Ze’s entire family – male, female, old, young – had all been greeted once over.
* 說的比唱的好聽 saying; some words sound better spoken than sung, from the work 咆哮的松花江 by 林予; an empty promise
Song Yan’s expression gradually turned cold.
“Have you finished cursing?” he coldly asked.
Qiao Ruo Ming smoothed his hair, completely without a care as he said, ” Yu Ze, you shouldn’t think that Song Yan is protecting you now, you’re mad if you’re confident. Let me tell you, Song Yan isn’t that easy to have down pat, he’s only dangling you, just playing with you. And you, what can you do about it? Also, you cannot be marked by him, don’t think you can hold him back for long.”
“Seems like you really understand Song Yan,” Song Yan replied, “Then aren’t you afraid I’ll tell him?”
Qiao Ruo Ming laughed, “You go ahead, tell him. Not even one of my fingertips had touched you, I’d only just chatted with you, that’s all.” As he said that, he even waved at the volunteers in the distance.
He was oh-so-eager for Yu Ze to go complain, he knew that Second Young Master Song hated those that tattled on others. He could then strike back with a hoe*, because when he cried, he cried like raindrops on pear flowers* and made others feel hurt for him.
* 倒打一耙 idiom; strike back with a hoe; from Journey to the West; to make bogus accusations; to counter-attack
* 梨花帶淚 saying; to describe the tears of a beautiful girl; just like pear flowers with droplets of rain, on spring day
“Go, go give Song Yan a call right now, ” Qiao Ruo Ming said, “See if he would believe you.”
Song Yan swept him a glance, but seeing that he’d be late if he didn’t leave soon, he only replied with one word, “Goodbye.” And left in a hurry.
When the clock struck four, Song Yan arrived at the location that Yu Ze wanted him to go to, right on time.
It was an old theater, Yu Ze was standing on the stage.
Although it was old, but Yu Ze had already called someone over to clean and touch it up a bit. When he’d saw that it was almost time, he cleared the scene, allowed the theater staff to first leave, leaving only the Song Family’s bodyguards to guard outside.
When Song Yan came in, Yu Ze looked at his watch, “You’re five minutes late.”
Song Yan laughed, “My bad, had a chat with an old friend for some time, delayed me some.”
Yu Ze didn’t further question him, just threw his arms out wide, and smiled as he asked, “How is this?”
Song Yan found a seat in the first row, sat down, stretched out his legs, and scanned the entire theater, “This is the present you’ve prepared? A small and old theater?”
“What you see is small and old, ” Yu Ze replied, “I see a real stage, and its potential.”
He began to talk about how he was going to renovate the entire theater, how to arrange the lights, how to expand the seating.
After all these days, this was the first time Song Yan heard Yu Ze speak so much in one breath.
“I thought you were going to use my status to act, to shoot a movie.”
“As long as there is an audience, I can act,” Yu Ze said, “As long as I can be on stage.”
He continued, exhilarated, “I plan to use your ancestor’s name as the name for this theater, and the first performance will be a stage play of “Bright”. I can be the artistic director and the male lead. This way it seems meaningful, and considerate, and will also not embarrass the Song Family; there shouldn’t be much opposition.”
Song Yan was immersed in listening, and only when Yu Ze stopped for a few seconds to ask him,” What do you think?” did he finally return to his senses.
He clapped his hands, “I think it’s…..real good.”
Yu Ze ever-so-gracefully bowed at him, “Thank you. I’m trying to convince you to invest in this project.”
Song Yan laughed and said, “I can agree to the investment, but you have to first make a call for me, right now.”
Yu Ze lifted an eyebrow, “No problem. To whom? What do I say?”
A minute later, Qiao Ruo Ming received a phone call from Second Young Master Song. His heart was pounding, yet he still immediately picked up the phone.
“Song Yan!” But before he could say anything, he was ruthlessly interrupted by “Song Yan’s” voice on the other end of the line.
“Qiao Ruo Ming, let’s not keep in touch anymore. This doesn’t mean we’re breaking up, because we were never even together in the first place.”
Author has something to say:
Song Yan: The Teacher Yu on the stage is shining bright!
Translator has something to say:
3/6…working on it, working on it ~ (late of course, but sorry I rly tried T___T)
This chapter left me with mixed feelings though, like though I don’t like Qiao Ruo Ming, he totally deserved that, but I can’t help but feel somewhat bad for him. That’s such a sad way to ruin your own chances, and to be oblivious about it all too…serves him right tho…..
Btw, I’m not sure if most of you noticed, but due to me looking up a whole lot of articles about grammar for FL and LML, my editing style has changed (less had, more ‘d; when to use verb + ing, verb +ed; adverb during dialogue etc etc). This means that one of these days, I’ll go back to re-edit the old chapters ~ sorry about that XD
