Chapter 19. Teacher Yu Was Still Going Strong
It had been nearly an year since Yu Ze last saw his youngest sister, Yu Xin. As the two siblings were nearly ten years apart in age, she’d been in elementary school when he debuted. It was due to this large difference in age, along with Yu Xin currently being overseas for her studies, that the two siblings rarely got in touch, and only occasionally video-called. If Yu Ze wanted to know what his sister had been up to, he’d usually just peek at the activity on her social media account.
Yu Xin would come over to find Yu Ze every summer vacation; she would play around for a bit there, before she went back home. Yu Ze’s identity gave her convenient access to many of those within the circle – and even if Yu Ze didn’t personally accompany her, she was also able to obtain all sorts of admission tickets, along with the subsequent VIP treatment, through his manager or his assistant. The status of being the Film Emperor’s blood-related sister also allowed her to enjoy all sorts of benefits for chasing celebrities*, which constantly made other female fans jealous. And as for Yu Ze’s fans, just being Yu Ze’s younger sister was already enough to make one envy.
* 追星 literally means ‘chasing after celebrities’; a spectrum that can range from the innocent action of merely following a celebrity’s social media, to the more borderline stalking of the celebrity (i’ll edit this out when I think of a more compact term)
The first thing that Yu Ze did when he awoke this morning, was to browse through the news on the Internet.
Wearing his pajamas, he sat at the dining table, and ate his breakfast as he searched for news related to the “Garden Plaza”. Everything on the internet was about the impending opening; a great deal of effort had been put into the publicity. It was only natural that the move Song Ruo Zuo had pulled yesterday, wouldn’t come up on the Internet. And furthermore, it was impossible for anyone to even imagine that such a thing could happen.
The news regarding Song Ruo Zuo and Shen Xi Jia were still entirely tranquil. The previous pictures of them together visiting their injured son at the hospital, remained.
However, away from the decent and proper news, the information about the couple in all the large gossip forums, was much more sensational.
Song Ruo Zuo’s several lovers had all been raked up, and while Shen Xi Jia was much more low-profile, she also had her share of rumored beaus. Doctor Zhao wasn’t included among them. Perhaps he hadn’t yet being discovered by the public, due to him not being considered a celebrity.
But even if Doctor Zhao had been released, that didn’t mean that Song Ruo Zuo had really let him off. If a normal person had experienced such an incident, the mental and physical trauma was sure to be substantial.
It suddenly occurred to Yu Ze, what if Song Ruo Zuo found out that he and Song Yan had switched bodies, and that he was using the body of the Song Family’s precious son? How would Song Ruo Zuo react?
As Yu Ze thought about it, he felt himself shivering despite it not being cold.* He must not expose too many loopholes. This could only be done if both he and Song Yan worked together.
* 不寒而栗 idiom; shiver all over although not cold; tremble with fear; shudder
Just as he was thinking, there came a call from Song Yan’s number.
Yu Ze stopped searching for news, and answered the call.
Song Yan’s voice was light and quick on the other side, just as if the things that happened yesterday had already passed, and he’d no lingering mental recollection of it.*
* the more literal meaning is “psychological shadow”, but as that term seems to have its own different meaning in psychology (shadow being an unconscious aspect of the personality etc etc), and ‘psychological trauma’ didn’t seem appropriate as SY didn’t seem to be the one traumatized, I took a wee bit of liberty with the phrasing; but the gist is a psychological cloud over his head
“Just wanted to tell you that Xiao Chen has already picked your sister up. He’ll send her to the hotel to rest. But she just called me and asked to eat together tonight, or to be more exact, she asked me to treat her to a meal.”
“Do you have time to take her?” Yu Ze asked, “It’s not a problem if you do not have time. I was often unable to accompany her when she previously came to spend her summer vacations. It’s enough to just send someone to stay with her, she will not suspect anything.”
Song Yan promptly said, “What I mean is, that you can come with me, and we can eat with her together. You also have to eat, don’t you? There’s been so much going on recently, so let’s meet and discuss.”
He then hung up the phone, not allowing for further explanation.
Yu Ze stood up, walked into the garden, and began to contemplate. However, he didn’t spend much time lost in his thoughts; he’d a lot of meetings to rush to today.
Yu Ze first made a show of a trip to the company, during which he passed along Song Yan’s instructions. Then he left the company, and went to meet with the producer and director from the film crew of ‘Bright’, to discuss the matter of copyright.
Fang Yuan had arranged for a copyright lawyer to accompany him to this meeting.
Yu Ze kept looking at the script on the way there, occasionally modifying it from time to time. The entire vehicle was extremely quiet, no one dared to interrupt “Second Young Master Song’s” train of thought.
When they’d almost reached the venue, Yu Ze closed the script, and looked at the Fang Yuan seated on the front passenger seat.
“Find me a decent restaurant, the type young girls would like, not the type that’s too noisy, but one that’s more quiet and won’t attract attention,” he said, his voice soft.
For this entire morning, Second Young Master Song had been especially silent, even Fang Yuan had felt she’d been about to suffocate. She also couldn’t help but think back of yesterday’s matter; while she didn’t know what happened to the Song Family of four, she’d seen someone taking care of some bloodstains.
But now that Second Young Master Song had finally given out an order, just as he normally would, she immediately felt much better.
She at once pressed away at her cell phone, “Very well. Reservation for how many?”
“Three,” Yu Ze said, “I will be eating with Yu Ze and his younger sister. After you’ve made a reservation at the restaurant, tell Yu Ze directly.”
A tsk* of admiration in Fang Yuan’s heart; seems like Teacher Yu was still going strong, the progress wasn’t bad.
* sound of one clicking one’s tongue, can be of admiration or disgust (but as it’s clearly in admiration here, I just wrote that in, lest it sound like disapproval)
Yu Ze continued, “Yu Ze can directly contact you in the future. Do not refuse him if he does request your help.”
A large question mark, along with an uppercase F, floated out from Fang Yuan’s heart. But she still quickly said, “Of course.”
By this time, she’d already thrown yesterday’s matters far beyond the topmost clouds*, and had begun to consider how to phrase a request for a raise.
* 九霄雲外 idiom; beyond the topmost clouds; unimaginably far, far away
The discussion for the copyright went rather well; the movie was originally the Song Family’s investment. Two small investment companies had withdrew following the earthquake, and it’d been the Song Family who supplemented the share. Now that Second Young Master Song came to propose making a stage play version, there was no reason to refuse.
Yu Ze felt exceptionally intimate upon again meeting the Director, he thought it such a pity he wasn’t able to directly address the Director as a close friend.
But his care for the production crew’s affairs, could still be shown.
“Has the male lead been decided on? It’s almost like there hasn’t been much progress recently?”
The Director didn’t have a favorable impression of Song Yan, and while the stage play was a rather good idea, the idea didn’t necessarily come from the playboy right in front of his eyes.
“Currently there’s two rather fitting candidates, it’ll be decided on soon,” the Director ambiguously replied.
Yu Ze saw that the Director was guarding against him, and so he could only bitterly laugh, shake hands with the Director, and turn to leave.
In the evening, Yu Ze went to the reserved restaurant. Song Yan and Yu Xin also arrived around the same time as him; the two of them were speaking and laughing as they came in together.
On entering the box, Yu Xin didn’t straightaway recognize “Second Young Master Song”; she only saw a young, and handsome Alpha. Her eyes couldn’t refrain from lighting up.
“Brother, this is?”
“This is your brother’s boyfriend,” Song Yan said, magnanimously.
Yu Xin gave a shriek,”My gawd! So handsome! Brother, your taste is too good! Ahhhhhh!”
Song Yan directly began to laugh.
The two of them seemed just like blood-related siblings.
Yu Ze had been feeling gloomy, but upon hearing his younger sister’s shriek, his cry of “Yu Xin!” came out like a conditioned reflex.
Yu Xin was stunned.
