Chapter 4 : Trapezohedron of Dark Radiance
The next day after Mani completed her new enchanted battle hammer, 《Evil Spirit’s Battle Hammer; Gadras》, I visited the adventurer guild’s building along with Mani
Just as I’ve planned with Edda, we are going to meet in the guild and make our plan to dive into a demon labyrinth with the three of us.
Sitting around the table with Mani, we were looking at the map of the demon labyrinths around this city.
「Since there’s a miner, I think a place with mineral deposits would be a better choice for us.But, if we prioritize safety above everything else, then we have… 《Romburgh Underground Ruin》.」
I told them about my plan as I held on to two maps.
In these two sheets of papers were the lists of the price range of demon beast’s battle bone and minerals that could be mined in the demon labyrinth, and the testament about demon beast variant, and the bandits that might be lurking inside of the demon labyrinth.
The former was available through the adventurer guild’s receptionist, and the later could be bought from an information dealer in the slums.
『Safety my a*ss! You have this mistress right? All you need is an environmentalist and you can dive in the deeper floor of a demon labyrinth with this mistress’s power! Whether it’s the 8th floor or the 10th floor, this mistress is always combat ready! The battle bone and demon core from those floor can fill Dean’s pocket to the brim and fill this mistress stomach with yummy food!』
Beelzebub transmitted her thoughts to me.
「Nay… the labyrinth around this city aren’t that deep you know?」
Though there’s a trend that powerful demon beasts had always been lurking in the deeper floors, even someone like Fedor-who was defeated miraculously by Edda and I- needed at least four people of the same level as him to dive until the 6th floor.
In addition, two of those four was reserved for veteran environmentalists and sense’s skill users.
It was defintely not a place for Edda, Mani, and I to try with our current level.
Suddenly, I raised my head and looked at my surrounding.
「… Edda sure is taking her time.」
And there, my eyes caught Edda’s figure, leaning on the wall slightly separated from us, her eyes were looking at me.
Her arms were folded under her che*st, staring with the usual expressionless look on her face.
Though her silver colored hair and red eyes were bringing about the aura of mysterious beauty, for me who knew-and suffered first hand experience from her poisonous tongue- I couldn’t think of her as anything but an unfortunate beauty with a sour look on her face.
Though I’m sure that she had long since noticed our presence here, she averted her face, feigning ignorance.
… What in the hell is this sulking about?
「Please wait for a minute, I’m gonna call her.」
When I’m about to leave my seat, a woman made her entrance into the guild building.
I, for some reason stopped my gait, looking at that woman.
It’s not just me.
The other adventurers had also stopped whatever they did, as if they knew that something was about to happen.
That woman wore a dark colored army uniform which combined with golden lines.
Fixed on her shoulder was Manticore[black lion]’s crest.
Following after her was five army soldiers clad in the uniform of different colors.
The woman was a magus officer and the other five were low rank soldiers.
I went to the closest seat, and sat down right there.
Maybe her coming here has something to do with Fedor’s case.
Edda and I met Canvia back then when the latter apprehended the already incapacitated Fedor.
The magus officer woman heaved a sigh as she touched her blue colored hair.
She looked very much like a neurotic woman with thick make up.
The color of her lips was bright red and she used dark eyeliner around her eyes.
「This place is as dirty as usual huh.」
「Haha, it can’t be helped, Priah-dono. This is the gathering place of trash around【Lv:20】 after all.」
「Let’s finish our business right away as to not let this filthy place pollute Priah-dono’s eyes any longer.」
Upon hearing the dark remark of the woman called Priah, her subordinates follow the fashion while laughing with a sneer on their face.
The queue of adventurers to the receptionist desk split up themself as if to open the way for the woman and co.
I understand their feelings.
Even the most rowdy adventurers didn’t want to have trouble with the army.
I also rose from my seat.
One adventurer and the armies, the difference between the power as enchanted vessel’s user and authority alone had already made clear in this situation.
Adventurers like us would be swatted like a fly whenever they felt like it.
「W-What is the magus officer doing here?」
The receptionist welcomed them with a bewildered face.
「Somesort of amazing enchanted vessel had just arrived from the village right? Since this is a matter of most urgency, we decided to safekeep that enchanted vessel. This is the official document from magus assistant, Malty-sama.」
「E-Enchanted… vessel? no, such thing is…」
「…………」
Priah squinted her eyes as if getting irritated upon hearing the receptionist’s remark and she heaved a sigh.
And then, she grabbed the receptionist’s hand as if it were the most natural thing to do, and placed it on top of the desk.
「E–」
Priah’s finger stabbed into the receptionist’s hand, nailing it on the desk.
「K-KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!」
The receptionist screamed in pain.
I felt the muscle in my face cramped upon seeing that scene.
Priah’s finger pierced the bone in the receptionist’s hand.
She wouldn’t be able to move her fingers properly anymore even if that wound was closed.
「Such ugly scream.」
She then pulled out her finger with a bored look on her face, and pointed it behind.
Her subordinate goes down to their knee as they wipe the blood that was dripping from her finger.
Another guild’s staff come in haste.
「O-Our apologize! This girl is a newcomer who has yet to finish her training! Oi, you apologize to them too! Don’t forget to bow your head!」
「M-My apologies! my apologies!」
The poor new receptionist’s head was pinned down by another receptionist, forcing the former to bow her head to Priah.
Seeing Priah had already lost her interest in that poor receptionist, the other receptionist heaved a sigh.
「The thing I mentioned should’ve arrived. The 《Trapezohedron of Dark Radiance》… yeah, that black gem.」
「Y-Yes! it’s as you say. We were told that the army is going to take custody of that one later. Please wait a minute, we’re going to prepare it!」
The other receptionist ran in hurry into the inner part of the guild building and came back a while later with a small red box.
「T-There you go. Please be careful since I hear it’s a dangerous goods…」
「Hn, I appreciate your effort.」
After Priah received the small red box, she handed it to her subordinate.
「Confirm the content.」
「HAH!」
The man who received the box opened with it as if it was the most sensitive trap.
I couldn’t see the content from where I stood.
The man drew the short sword hanging on his waist.
「《Imu》!… though I can’t see anything aside from its name, it’s real deal.」
「I see, let’s go back. Magus Assistant, Malty-sama must’ve been waiting for this.」
Priah turned around.
「What are you looking for, piece of trash! this isn’t a show!」
When Priah’s subordinates berate on us, all of us averted our gaze at once.
… Naturally, I’m included in them.
After those guys from the army had left the guild’s building, the guild started to become lively again.
「… Those guys are as unpleasant as usual huh.」
Mani muttered to me.
「… Yeah, they’re really a bunch of hateful people. But still, I’m a little bit curious about that Trapezo-whatever they called it.」
When I replied to Mani, I heard someone’s footsteps coming from behind.
「Edda. what the heck with you—!」
"
"
When I turned around, thinking it was Edda who came to our direction… it turned out to be a tall unknown man.
It’s hard to guess his age based on his face but, he might be around thirty years old.
His bitter orange colored hair was set in a hairdo that completely covered his left eyes.
Though he has a well ordered face, I for some reason felt that some sort of anxiety, or should I say something dangerous in him.
「Trapezohedron… to be exact, it’s 《Trapezohedron of Dark Radiance》. It’s an enchanted vessel in the form of a gem. I’ve heard about that too but, what a coincidence.」
