Chapter 30 : Confirmation of the Current Situation

After the meeting to plan counter-measures against the grey cult had ended, everyone left at once to make their own preparation.

It was decided beforehand that anyone who wants to participate will gather outside of Romburgh city and from there, the group will go straight to UG 4th floor of 《Romburgh’s Underground Labyrinth》, the base of the grey cult.

I went straight to Mani’s smithy after I parted ways with Edda. I need to explain the current situation to her.

「In short… you decided to join that Gamdon’s suicide squad right, Dean?」

Mani covered her face with her hand as she asked me.

… It seems I ended up making her worry about me again.

「… I know that this is a dangerous mission.」

I understood her worry.

She literally worries endlessly.

I mean, the first reason was the fact that she couldn’t trust the leader of that 《Gamdon’s Suicide Squad》, Gamdon himself.

He was by no means a good adventurer.

I would put more trust in him if he was at least as smart as Childick, or someone like Heidar but…

And the second reason was the fact that we had no idea about the number of the grey cult’s personnel.

Their battle force should be composed of superior C-rank enchanted weapon users like Gaza at minimum, and lower B-rank enchanted weapon’s user like Vlad at maximum, maybe even stronger.

I mean, there were no adventurers in Romburgh who could fight head-on against Vlad.

Even Heidar would eventually lose in that fight against Vlad if not for my sudden interference.

The third reason was because she was wary of the army, they might do something in this situation, in the worst case, they might kill both adventurers and grey cult’s member after both sides exhausted themself in the battle.

Though the army might be pretending to ignore the unfavourable negotiation call from the grey cult regarding the 《Trapezohedron of Dark Radiance》, this decision might put them in a difficult situation.

And lastly… the fourth reason, the UG 4th floor in which the grey cult made their base was an extremely dangerous floor for the current me.

The UG 4th floor was a floor filled with miasma, definitely not a suitable environment for humans.

An environmentalist who could use matter magic to purify the air is a must.

In short, if all of the environmentalists of Gamdon’s suicide squad was wiped out in the battle against demon beast or the grey cult… it was equivalent with a death sentence for everyone.

Amongst the thirteen-member of Gamdon’s suicide squad, including Edda and I, there was only two environmentalists.

Namely, Gamdon’s right-hand man, Childick and the unreliable looking youth called Ciel.

In Childick’s case, he proved himself as a reliable combat environmentalist.

But of course, fighting while purifying the air put quite a lot of strain on him.

「But… grey cult will continue their atrocities unless we do something about them. Maybe not even this slum would safe from their threat.」

「…」

Mani was glaring at me.

「… I don’t mind even if I’ve to abandon this smithy, escaping from this city with you.」

Mani looked down while muttering those words.

I was flabbergasted upon hearing her remark.

The next moment, her eyes opened wide as if she just realized what she blurted out just now, and shook her head.

「Sorry, excuse me for a moment.」

… Mani excused herself with those words.

A long time ago, neither the adventurers nor the army made their move when a demon beast stampede happened, resulting in my mother’s death.

Mani might have remembered that.

「Even so… this problem would not have become this big if only the army made an appropriate countermeasure. They should just return that strange enchanted tool to those grey cult. There really is no reason for you to risk your life in a battle against them, Dean.」

「I also had no intention to clear up the mess left by the army. But… things will only get more and more dangerous if we don’t do anything about the grey cult.」

In just a few days, I already saw an innocent man killed by Vlad, and another man whose wife was murdered and his daughter got kidnapped by the grey cult.

Their victims in Romburgh city alone had already surpassed dozens in number.

I couldn’t bear to see those guys’ atrocities anymore.

「As I thought… I knew that you’re going to say that, Dean.」

Mani’s stiff expression softened as she said those words with a smile on her face.

After she calmed down, she left her seat and walked toward the 《Evil Spirit’s Battle Hammer; Gadras》 which was leaning against the wall.

「W-What’s the matter, Mani?」

「If you go, then take me too. I will follow your selfishness through to the end.」

「B-But… your level is too low…」

「Nevertheless, I should be able to lessen the burden since I have this 《Evil Spirit’s Battle Hammer; Gadras》. From what I heard, you guys are actually short handed right?」

… Sure enough, combat geared 《Evil Spirit’s Battle Hammer; Gadras》 should be enough to make her into a fine adventurer.

It also offered great correction for fighting spirit.

「But still… the place I’m heading to is too dangerous for you, Mani.」

「I feel the same when I hear that you’re going to such a dangerous place. I’m not the kind of woman who will wait for your return patiently. I’ll come with you, then hearing that you’re going to a dangerous place gave me more reason to do so.」

「U-Understood… Sorry, Mani.」

When I hung my head down, Beelzebub, who just finished her 《Racow’s Steak》, raised her face.

Since Beelzebub kept saying 『I want to eat delicious food now since I won’t get that chance after we enter the demon labyrinth』 as soon as I materialized her with tulpa in order to allow her to eat while I prepared the meal.

It’s not like 《Petit Dimordi》consumed that much mana when Beelzebub moved less, I mean, I would’ve had nothing left if I emptied my mana at this point.

「You two, no need to get overly serious in this matter.Just leave it to this one of the rulers of seven deadly sins, this mistress. I mean, I will be troubled if Dean died before he fulfilled his promise to make a feast for me.」

That declaration sounds like a joke when Beelzebub said that with dredges of her steak smearing around her lips.

「But, I demand five more steaks like this once you return!」
