Chapter 29 : Gamdon Suicide Squad

「Am I clear? Our main objective is to smear mud on magus assistant Marty’s face, and kick the a*sses of those fu*cking grey cult who dare to mess with our city!」

I lined up alongside Edda, hearing Gamdon’s speech.

Standing right beside Gamdon was a small man with an ugly face, looking around the room.

For some reason, this man reminded me of a sewer rat.

The spots on his face were really standing out. There might be around forty of them.

The small man nodded as if to agree with Gamdon and yet, he didn’t even avert his gaze from the adventurers in this room.

「… That man’s name is Childick, he’s one of this group’s environmentalists, he’s quite a powerful one. He also acts as Gamdon’s assistant. He’s a weird but capable guy. The reason why the situation is progressing so quickly is mainly because his effort.」

Heidar whispered to me.

Environmentalist was the title for the user of a purification type enchanted magic vessel which could use 《Matter》.

Since 《Matter》 wasn’t offensive type magic, though a majority of them were playing as the support for their team, Childick seems to be the type that is strong in combat.

… Though Heidar evaluated Childick as a smart man, the man himself was tagging along Gamdon.

No, it might be the reason why he was tagging along Gamdon, because it would allow him to easily manipulate the latter.

「Now hear me! Romburgh’s biggest company, Razin, is supporting this operation! They will act as the mediator between us and the victims, gathering funds from the victims while at the same time funding our operation too!」

Gamdon kept repeating the same story since a while ago, it was all about money.

Money was important. But, could you move to the next topic already.

Gamdon has finally stopped talking about money after being reminded by Gamdon.

That short tempered and stubborn Gamdon was actually acting meek in front of Childick.

「Do you know that although the grey cult had already left bloody messages on the walls of their victim’s home to let the army know about them, the fu*cking subworker of the army has actually erased it? Fortunately, I already know the content of their message.」

Sure enough, I heard about that back in the adventurer guild too.

That might be the main reason why the guild was so noisy today.

Naturally, though those messages had already been erased in the morning, there was no way the army could completely prevent the rumor from spreading.

「The grey cult invited Marty to come to UG 4th floor or 《Romburgh’s Underground Ruin》, the place where they took their 21 hostages to! They said that if Marty still refuses the negotiation, they’ll kill those 21 hostages, and will repeat the same thing again and again until Marty is willing to negotiate with them! 」

I was at a loss for words.

The army was seriously trying to hide such a terrifying message!

The matter of them ignoring the grey cult aside, there’s no way the citizens would keep quiet if they knew about this message.

Gamdon stopped talking as soon as Childick signaled with his hand.

「As we already know, there were so many groundless rumors flying around in Romburgh city. Some of them might be the work of the army to change the public opinion toward them. With so much graffitis in Romburgh, it simply will take a really long time to investigate every single one of them. And we, don’t have that leeway.」

In contrast to Gamdon’s almost angry speech, Childick explained the matter with a flat tone.

Yes… the lives of those prisoners were in jeopardy.

Thus, the victims’ relatives had no choice but to gather adventurers who could overcome the army.

「WE CAN’T EXPECT ANYTHING FROM THOSE GUYS IN THE ARMY! WE’RE THE ONE WHO WILL PROTECT ROMBURGH! ANYONE WHO AGREES AND WANTS TO JOIN THIS GAMDON’S SUICIDE TEAM MAY COME A HALF DAY LATER IN THIS PLACE! WE’RE RACING AGAINST TIME! I REPEAT, DON’T TELL THE ARMY ABOUT THIS! ANYONE WHO IS FOUND REPORTING TO THE ARMY WILL BECOME THE RUST OF MY 《STRONG AXE; GIGANTES》!」

Gamdon shouting while pushing out his fist.

「… His naming sense is zero.」

Edda muttered.

… Gamdon aside, at this rate, Romburgh city might really be in danger.

『Though that purple haired bitch is working in there, why did he forbid you from reporting those army fellas? as right now, you’re basically cleaning after their mess right?』

Beelzebub asked me out of curiousity.

「… Because our current action is as if we’re opposing the army. When those from the army don’t do anything, our act is like smearing mud on the magus assistant’s face.」

I had no idea what in the world was that magus assistant Marty thinking about for letting such a thing to happen.

Though he might simply fear the fact that he would lose any other option aside from handing over 《Trapezohedron of Dark Radiance》 if he played his card wrongly, there were too many suspicious points in this case.

And the grey cult wouldn’t just keep quiet about Marty’s ignoring their message either.

And yet, I didn’t see the army making any kind of preparation to counter the grey cult at all.

Moreover, Marty still has a superior, magus general Silvas, who was entrusted with the eastern area of Ryuzu kingdom.

Though I heard that the big-shot of the army was agreeing with a little bit of tyranny, Marty’s response for this incident was clearly abnormal.

If Gamdon suicide squad really did manage to resolve this situation… it would affect Marty’s position in the army.

He might even get a dismissal notice.

Meaning that this was our biggest opportunity to kick Marty out of Romburgh city.

And yet, the army opted for the worst option to deal with this case.

If this Gamdon suicide squad really did managed to save the prisoner, not even Marty could easily messing around with us in the future.

And yet, he didn’t even try to sabotage this meeting,

I mean, Marty must’ve known that the Razin company didn’t fully back this operation.

Though the Razin company might have done this to increase their fame and for sake of publicity, even a company as big as them didn’t dare to pick a fight with the army so openly.

The fact that the Razin company didn’t supply us with enchanted vessels was the clue about their stand.

Meaning that they were ready to assist the adventurers within acceptable range.

They were really worried if their involvement in this gathering was known by Marty.

Gamdon didn’t even try to hide the fact that he was after the prize money, he definitely kept the fact that he was opposing the army and the fact that we’re lacking the information about the grey cult’s combat power, in addition, the army might actually be spying on this meeting.

On top of that… UG 4th floor was filled with strong monsters, and thick miasma.

And yet, right now, we’re the only choice available to protect Romburgh and save the hostages.
