As the scorching summer heat set in, it was around 10 PM on a Saturday night. Near the seaside of Yunhai City, in a small wooden house not far away, a young man with a slender build stood bare-chested.
He was searching online for some inappropriate images, laughing lewdly as he looked at them. After a while, he grew bored and moved his mouse, and the screen changed to show a game called "Battle for the Nine Provinces." Seeing the game character automatically fighting monsters, he felt reassured and muttered to himself, "I'll find a small game to play, so I don't keep thinking about nothing."
Xu Jianxing, a lifeguard at the seaside, had a tan that many envied, standing at 179 cm tall, 25 years old, with prominent eyebrows and large eyes. While he wasn't a top-tier handsome man, he was still quite good-looking. His greatest hobby, besides his unfulfilled dream of traveling, was finding various novels, online games, and web games to pass the time. Naturally, he had also made some good friends through these games.
Just as Xu Jianxing's thoughts wandered, his fingers must have accidentally clicked on some random webpage, and a screen popped up. A slightly flirtatious voice came through the earphones.
"Damn, you scared me!" Xu Jianxing felt annoyed. Browsing the web often led to encountering spam sites, which was something most internet users hated.
At a glance, Xu Jianxing saw two animated characters on the webpage, making moaning sounds through the earphones and performing suggestive actions. A subtitle read, "Want it? Come into the Star God Fantasy!"
"False advertising!" Xu Jianxing sneered. He knew the content inside would definitely not match the displayed image, as he had experienced this too many times.
Despite his annoyance, the name "Star God Fantasy" piqued his interest. As he loaded the web game, he couldn't help but fantasize, "Hehe, could this Star God be referring to me, Brother Xing?"
He often read various fantasy novels online and occasionally indulged in such fantasies.
Soon, the web game loaded.
When the character appeared, Xu Jianxing glanced at it and started clicking the mouse out of boredom. He was very familiar with web games. The first few dozen levels of almost any web game could be quickly leveled up through quests, with features like automatic monster fighting and pathfinding, making it very convenient. It was a good way to pass the time.
After playing for about ten minutes, Xu Jianxing understood that this was a fantasy-themed web game. The main profession was a Warrior, divided into the five elements: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. The maximum level was 100. The game not only showed levels but also had titles at various stages, which you could earn by defeating game characters.
The titles, from lowest to highest, were: Warrior Apprentice, Warrior, Warrior Master, Warrior Patriarch, Warrior King, Warrior Emperor, Warrior Saint, and finally, Star God. Each rank also had 10 stars. For example, Level 1 was a 1-star Warrior Apprentice, Level 2 was a 2-star Warrior Apprentice, and so on. However, in both novels and games, these ranks couldn't be directly compared; everything depended on strength.
A 30-level character might defeat a 50-level character if the 30-level character spent more money, while the 50-level character didn't. This was a common issue in many games.
To Xu Jianxing, these warrior ranks, though somewhat cliché, were easy to remember.
Additionally, the game had various auxiliary professions to complement the main profession, adding some playability.
After about twenty minutes, Xu Jianxing's character, guided by the auto-pathfinding feature, arrived at the quest destination. After completing the quest, he accepted the next one, and a prompt appeared to enter the "Flying Dragon Temple" dungeon.
Without hesitation, Xu Jianxing clicked to enter. In an instant, the screen changed, and he saw several small dragon-like monsters in front of his character.
Without thinking, he clicked the auto-battle button. As the character automatically fought the monsters, he noticed from the side information that this was an equipment-dropping dungeon, with various colored equipment displayed: white, green, blue, purple, orange, and a rainbow-colored item with a large question mark in the center.
To be honest, having played so many games, Xu Jianxing knew the tricks. Although there were many different colored equipment displayed, he believed the chance of getting a purple item in this dungeon was almost zero. As for orange or the mysterious rainbow-colored item, he didn't even consider it; it was just a trap.
Sure enough, when his character reached the final boss, he only obtained a few white and green items. However, this didn't dampen his interest. He equipped the items, and his stats increased significantly.
He still had some hope for the final boss, wishing for a miracle.
"Boom!"
Suddenly, thunder rumbled in the sky outside, loud enough for Xu Jianxing, who was wearing earphones, to hear. Seeing the boss about to drop, he was a bit worried but didn't pay much attention to the outside. He planned to check the situation after the boss died.
"Boom!"
Another loud explosion, but this time it wasn't thunder; it was the final boss dropping items. The screen flickered, making Xu Jianxing's heart race. He was about to turn off the computer, but before he could, the screen suddenly stabilized.
"Phew, thank goodness the computer is fine!" Xu Jianxing sighed in relief. However, he didn't dare continue playing the game. Before shutting down, he checked what the boss had dropped.
When he opened his inventory, he was stunned. A rainbow-colored ring appeared in the storage slot. Xu Jianxing's heart leaped with joy, and he moved the mouse over it. The text on the ring appeared:
Omnipotent God Ring: Unranked Spirit Item, +10 to all attributes, 10 storage slots, +2 storage slots per 10 levels, +1 to all auxiliary profession levels, +5% success rate, gathering rate, mining rate, and scouting rate, can be equipped at level 0, can evolve, requires 12 auxiliary professions, automatically activates 12 auxiliary professions upon reaching the required level.
"An epic item, an epic item! Looks like my luck is really good today; I could even buy a lottery ticket!" Xu Jianxing drooled at the stats, but he didn't dare look any longer because the thunder outside had grown louder.
He clicked to equip the ring and reached for the power button, planning to turn off the computer after equipping it. Although the ring was great, it was just a game item. If the computer got damaged because of it, it would be a huge loss.
"Rumble..."
The moment he equipped the ring, a loud thunderclap echoed through the night sky. Xu Jianxing felt a tingling sensation in his finger, which quickly spread throughout his body.
"Damn, I've been tricked." This was the last thought Xu Jianxing had before he lost consciousness.
