Logically, a phone call from his brother-in-law shouldn't have made him come in person, but upon hearing that it involved his father-in-law's beloved granddaughter, he didn't dare to delay for a moment and rushed over immediately.
After all, if he wanted to advance further, he still needed his father-in-law's help to smooth things over.
"This clinic is suspected of using counterfeit drugs without approval, and a thorough investigation is required. Please leave if you are not involved!"
The health bureau staff immediately put a significant label on the clinic as they entered.
The patients who were asked to leave did not depart immediately but gathered at the entrance to watch the commotion.
"Director Deng, this is a misunderstanding. Our clinic has always followed the rules. How could we possibly use counterfeit drugs?" Clinic director Sun Feng immediately ran out when he heard the commotion, bowing and offering a cigarette to Deng Chengbin while smiling apologetically. He was puzzled, as he had just given this deputy director two boxes of ginseng a few days ago. Why was he investigating them now?
Deng Chengbin pushed the cigarette away and said coldly, "Don't try to get close. Today we are here on official business. I heard that there is a doctor here named Jiang Yan who, due to improper medication, almost cost a child her life?"
"Nonsense! I prescribed medication based on the condition!" Jiang Yan, feeling indignant, stepped out from among the doctors and nurses, her eyes coldly staring at Deng Chengbin. She could guess that this was probably the brother-in-law mentioned by Wu Jianguo.
Deng Chengbin's expression clearly paused when he saw Jiang Yan, clearly impressed, but he quickly recovered and said coldly, "We will investigate whether the medication was properly prescribed. Please come with us."
"Director Deng, that's a bit too much. Doctor Jiang is a well-known physician in our area," Sun Feng said with a smile. "Besides, the child was already cured when she left here."
"Old Sun, don't blame me for not giving you face. If you keep stalling, I'll take you too," Deng Chengbin said coldly, giving Sun Feng a cold glance.
Seeing that Deng Chengbin was serious, Sun Feng was too scared to say anything and cursed him in his heart.
Deng Chengbin gave his subordinates a look, and they immediately moved to grab Jiang Yan. But Lin Yu, who had appeared out of nowhere, stood in front of Jiang Yan and said coldly to Deng Chengbin, "As far as I know, the health bureau doesn't have the authority to arrest people."
"What are you? Whether I have the authority to arrest people is none of your business!" Deng Chengbin was furious. "Sun Feng, is this one of your clinic's doctors?"
"No, he is Doctor Jiang's husband," Sun Feng said, giving Lin Yu a look to signal him not to be impulsive.
"Oh, it's him. I heard he treated my niece. Does he have a medical license? Show it to me," Deng Cheng said coldly, scanning Lin Yu. His brother-in-law had mentioned this person and seemed to have a strong opinion about him.
"He's not a doctor, so he doesn't have a medical license. Director Deng, don't take him seriously. I heard he just saved your niece," Sun Feng said hurriedly with a smile.
"Illegal practice of medicine is a crime. Take him away too. I'll call the police to come and pick him up," Deng Chengbin said with a cold laugh. He didn't have the authority to arrest people, but the deputy police chief was his sworn brother.
"You're more trouble than you're worth," Jiang Yan glared at Lin Yu and then took out her phone to call her father to smooth things over, so they wouldn't really arrest this useless person.
Just as the two staff members were about to take action, a SUV screeched to a halt in front of the clinic, and two figures quickly got out—Wu Jinyuan and his son, who were extremely anxious.
Seeing his father-in-law and brother-in-law, Deng Chengbin's face lit up, thinking it was a good opportunity to show his worth to his father-in-law.
"Father, you came just in time. I was about to seal this clinic and arrest these quacks," Deng Chengbin hurried over to greet them.
Wu Jinyuan ignored him and quickly walked to the crowd, asking urgently, "Which young friend treated my granddaughter's strange illness?"
"Father, it's him!"
Wu Jianguo spotted Lin Yu in the crowd and pointed at him.
Wu Jinyuan hurried over and said politely, "Young friend, my granddaughter's strange illness has recurred, and she is in critical condition in the hospital. Please help her. I will be forever grateful."
"Director, you're here," Sun Feng's eyes lit up. Seeing how respectfully Wu Jinyuan treated Lin Yu, his heart sank. This man who lived off his wife's earnings couldn't possibly have any medical skills; he had just gotten lucky.
Hearing how the old man was addressed by Deng Chengbin and Wu Jianguo, Lin Yu understood his identity.
"Sorry, old sir, I can't treat her," Lin Yu shook his head and smiled bitterly. "I don't have a medical license. Your son-in-law just said I was practicing medicine illegally and was about to call the police to arrest me."
"Rubbish! Get over here and apologize!" Wu Jinyuan glared at Deng Chengbin and then pointed at Wu Jianguo, saying sternly, "And you! Apologize too!"
Deng Chengbin looked at Wu Jianguo, puzzled by the situation.
Seeing Wu Jianguo's pale face and silence, Deng Chengbin didn't dare to ask and went over to apologize to Lin Yu, "Brother, I'm sorry, just now..."
"You should apologize not to me, but to my... my wife."
Lin Yu interrupted them, feeling a bit awkward calling her his wife for the first time.
"Sorry, Director Jiang, I was too anxious and spoke rudely. Please forgive me," Wu Jianguo said sincerely, no longer the arrogant man he had been when he left.
"Doctor Jiang, I'm sorry. I didn't understand the situation, which led to this misunderstanding. Please forgive me," Deng Chengbin said, though he was reluctant, he had to follow his father-in-law's orders.
"It's okay," Jiang Yan waved her hand generously, looking at Lin Yu with a complex expression. She could sense a hint of manliness from this useless person, which was impossible.
"Young friend, are you willing to go to the hospital with me to treat my granddaughter?" Wu Jinyuan asked earnestly.
"Sorry, Old Wu, he doesn't know any medical skills. He just got lucky this time," Jiang Yan had to be honest, though she hoped Lin Yu could save the little girl, it was impossible.
"Yes, Old Wu, you overestimate him. He's from a technical school; how could he know any medical skills?" Sun Feng hurried over to explain, thinking it was better to be cautious.
"Old sir, they are right. I haven't studied medicine," Lin Yu, under the name of He Jiarong, had to be honest.
Hearing this, the hope in Wu Jinyuan's eyes dimmed, and a sense of sorrow appeared on his weathered face.
"Father, see? I told you he's a fraud," Deng Chengbin, hearing Lin Yu admit he had no medical skills, regained his confidence and sneered.
Lin Yu ignored him and said to Wu Jinyuan, "Old sir, although I haven't studied medicine, I have read many medical books and have some knowledge of difficult cases. I saw your granddaughter's condition in an ancient medical book. If you trust me, I am willing to help."
"Of course, of course," Wu Jinyuan's eyes lit up again, and he quickly pulled Lin Yu towards the car.
Wu Jianguo didn't dare to delay and hurried to drive the car.
"Father, how can you trust a fraud?"
Deng Chengbin was anxious and quickly called his subordinates to follow in the car.
"This lunatic!" Jiang Yan, angry, stomped her foot and followed to the hospital.
When Wu Jinyuan and Lin Yu arrived at the emergency room, Li Haoming immediately greeted them. He was surprised to see Lin Yu, who was much younger than expected.
The little girl in the emergency room was pale and lifeless, her body barely twitching, and her blood oxygen saturation had dropped to 40%.
Li Haoming sighed, thinking the little girl was beyond saving.
"Doctor, do you have acupuncture needles? Please get me a few," Lin Yu said, entering and feeling the little girl's pulse.
"Are you saying you want to use acupuncture? How is that possible?" Li Haoming was surprised but quickly instructed the nurse to get the needles.
The other internal medicine doctors were puzzled and somewhat dismissive, thinking it was arrogant for Lin Yu to claim he could cure what their advanced equipment couldn't detect.
"He Jiarong! Do you know what you're doing?"
Jiang Yan and Deng Chengbin's group arrived, and Jiang Yan looked at Lin Yu coldly, thinking he was pretending to know and was essentially committing murder.
"I'm saving a life," Lin Yu's voice was soft but firm.
Jiang Yan was about to say more when Lin Yu suddenly stepped forward and held her hand. She froze, feeling the warmth, even the heat, in his palm.
"Trust me," Lin Yu said softly, feeling the softness in his hand, his heart racing.
Jiang Yan quickly pulled her hand away, her face slightly flushed, and didn't say the rest.
Lin Yu smiled in satisfaction, flipping his hand to hold the red string and peach pit bracelet he had taken from Jiang Yan's wrist.
When the nurse brought the needles, Lin Yu quickly inserted them into the Dazhu, Fengmen, and Feishu acupoints on the little girl's back.
These points controlled the respiratory system, but the real cause of her illness was elsewhere. Lin Yu used these points to help her breathe and to mislead others.
He then inserted needles into the Quchi and Taichong acupoints.
While inserting the needles, his hand covered the little girl's abdomen, and he silently recited the Soul-Breaking Spell. His palm suddenly became hot, and a black mist rose from the little girl's body, surrounding her.
The little girl let out a soft moan and began to breathe deeply, her face gradually turning rosy.
"It's... it's working!"
"She's breathing again!"
"It's incredible!"
The doctors outside couldn't help but cheer.
Li Haoming was puzzled, wondering how a few seemingly random needles could cure such a strange illness.
Wu Jianguo and his wife, as well as the child's grandmother, were moved to tears, and even the experienced Wu Jinyuan shed a few tears.
Jiang Yan, standing nearby, was stunned, looking at Lin Yu with a mix of surprise and confusion. Was this the same useless person she remembered?
