Chapter 19

Yesterday, a brief encounter was enough to make me feel that this neighbor was quite beautiful, but today she looked even more stunning. Her alluring eyes, bright and clear, her delicate and well-defined nose, and her face, which was not as soft and gentle as that of ordinary women, exuded a unique charm. Coupled with her tall, model-like figure, she was incredibly captivating.
"Hello, my name is Christmas Chen, and I'm from China. I just moved in yesterday, and I apologize for disturbing your rest."
"It's okay, you already apologized yesterday."
The woman smiled, "My name is Kate, Kate Belseck. Nice to meet you. This house is just a temporary residence; I don't live here most of the time, so Mrs. Jenny didn't know I was back."
"Nice to meet you, Kate. Please have a seat. Would you like something to drink... Oh, sorry, I just moved in yesterday, and my fridge is still empty. How about... how about a breeze? The weather is nice today, and the wind can even clean your teeth as it blows through them."
Chen Tian scratched his head awkwardly, his words a bit incoherent. Drinking the wind, what nonsense, he wanted to slap himself. But it made Kate giggle, "You're funny. This is the rooftop, so everyone can be more relaxed."
"Ha, that's true."
Chen Tian's expression eased a bit, and he asked, "Your accent is very pleasant. Are you British? I heard Mrs. Jenny say you're an actress?"
"Yes, a third-rate actress."
Kate said nonchalantly, "I entered the industry in 1993, and it's been a few years. I've been playing minor roles all along, so it's normal that you don't know me. Hollywood is full of people like me."
"…Maybe I'm just too ignorant. After all, I haven't been in the U.S. for long."
"Let's not talk about that." Kate suddenly remembered something, her eyes filled with curiosity as she leaned in to ask, "I think I saw Tom Hanks helping you move yesterday? Come to think of it, weren't the people with Tom Hanks yesterday all actors, like Matt Damon and Tom Sizemore from 'Heat'? It's incredible. Are you an actor too? No, you've only been in the U.S. for a short time. Sorry, I'm a bit too curious."
Chen Tian felt a bit embarrassed for the others, who had been reduced to "and so on" in the mouth of a beautiful woman. This was the sorrow of standing next to an Oscar winner.
"You can call me Christmas. We might be colleagues in the future. Currently, I'm just an advertising director and screenwriter. I wrote a script that was fortunately noticed by Director Spielberg, which gave me the opportunity to work in the U.S. Tom Hanks is one of the lead actors in that movie."
"I know that movie. It's called 'Saving Private Ryan,' right? You wrote it? That's impressive."
Being looked at with admiration by a beautiful woman, Old Chen felt a bit vain and shrugged, pretending it was no big deal.
"What are you drawing? Can I take a look?"
"Of course. This is the storyboard for another script, which is not yet complete." He handed the draft to Kate.
Kate read it with great interest, and Chen Tian took the opportunity to search for Kate Belseck on his phone. A lot of information popped up, and he gradually understood, "No wonder, such a beautiful British actress, how could she be unknown?!"
"What are you talking about?" Kate suddenly looked up.
"Nothing... I guess you haven't had breakfast. How about we go for a cup of coffee?"
"Sure. Oh, I haven't washed up yet. How about we meet at the café across the street? I can listen to you talk about your new script." The beautiful woman left like a gust of wind.
Chen Tian, still dazed by the fragrance, immediately went back to his room, changed into casual clothes, and headed to the café to wait.
A moment later, Kate arrived. She was wearing tight jeans and high heels, looking every bit the star. As soon as she entered the café, about 90% of the men were drawn to her, and the only one left, an old cashier with almost no teeth, was no exception.
"Over here, Kate." Chen Tian waved.
Kate walked over with her bag, looking at his Superman T-shirt in surprise, "Are you a Superman fan?"
"No, this was a gift from the bank when I opened an account. Who knows why they gave me a Superman T-shirt." Chen Tian said, "Have you seen any Superman movies? There are many scenes that don't make scientific sense, and the script isn't very rigorous."
"What? You mean Superman can fly, which isn't scientific." Kate laughed.
A man drinking coffee behind them suddenly turned around and said with a smile, "I also know where the Superman script isn't rigorous, like the part where his eyes shoot laser beams. Hi, beautiful." He even gave Kate a flirtatious wink.
"Hello." Kate smiled faintly.
Most of the customers in the café were local residents, and they clearly knew each other well.
Chen Tian glanced at him and continued, "No, let's assume people can fly. I can't remember which episode of Superman it was, but there's a scene where Lois Lane falls from a great height, accelerating at 32 feet per second. Superman dives down to catch her with his steel-like arms, and at that moment, Miss Lane is falling at 120 kilometers per hour. If she hits Superman's steel arms, she would be split into three pieces instantly..."
The café fell silent, and the man behind them interjected again, "Maybe there would be some deceleration..."
"Would there be time? Sir. She's only two feet from the ground."
Chen Tian countered, "If Superman really loved Lois, he should let her fall on the road. At least that would be more merciful."
The café patrons were speechless, "What does this guy do?"
Kate was stunned and laughed uncontrollably, "That's hilarious, Christmas. Will your script be as humorous?"
Chen Tian shook his head, "Actually, no. In 'Saving Private Ryan,' I made a mistake with the use of firearms, mixing up American and German weapons. My new script is a supernatural thriller, more of a horror genre. People can see ghosts, and it can't be explained by science. If I have the chance, I'll definitely make a comedy."
"I'm very interested in your new script. Can you tell me the story? If it's not convenient, that's okay."
"I'm happy to. There's nothing to hide." His script was already registered with the Screenwriters Guild. "Once I finish my current work, it will be my first feature film."
It was rare for someone, especially a beautiful woman, to be willing to listen, and he was happy to share.
Not only to share, but to share in an engaging way.
They chatted and laughed while eating.
When the story was finished, Kate's eyes were clearly shocked, "Wow, the twist at the end is really... After hearing your story, I didn't guess that the psychiatrist was a ghost, and that he was subconsciously seeking help from a medium... Oh my God." She rubbed her arms vigorously, as if covered in goosebumps.
Chen Tian smiled, "What do you think of the story?"
Kate nodded seriously, "Now I understand why Director Spielberg chose your script. It's an excellent story with very rigorous logic and unexpected twists. What's it called, and is there a role suitable for me?"
"Would you be willing to act in it? It's just a horror film, and the female role isn't very prominent."
Kate said with longing, "I was moved by your story and don't think it's a horror film. Maybe it's the café environment, but I didn't find it scary. Sorry. Do you think I could play the role of Cole's mother? You can audition me."
She was eager, but Chen Tian's smile faded, and he didn't make any promises.
He deliberately changed the subject, "Today's breakfast was really good, thanks for having breakfast with me. Kate, I need to buy a car. Are you familiar with car dealerships? Do you have any recommendations?"
"Are you saying no? You won't even give me an audition?"
Such a response clearly meant a polite refusal. Kate's expression stiffened, and she looked a bit dejected.
To be honest, this was the best script she had heard in years. This time, she came back to Los Angeles because her agent had introduced her to two movies for auditions, but she didn't like those movies at all. Instead, she was very eager to act in the story she had heard in the café. She thought they were already friends, but... it had only been a day since they met. Why would he entrust such an important role to her?
(Thanks to Brother Demon for the two flowers. The Chongyang Festival is over, and the National Day holiday is almost over. The old donkey has no holiday. The updates in the new book are still relatively fast. So, I'm asking for some favorites and recommendations. Thanks ^_^)
