In a dim and slightly damp small room, a light thud suddenly sounded.
"Ouch..."
Accompanied by a voice that was half in pain and half in complaint, a young man in his twenties jumped down from the attic. He rubbed his head, which had collided with a wooden frame, and looked around helplessly.
This was a stationery and sundries shop that had been in business for decades, starting from his grandfather’s time. The many primary school students in front of the shop were the main customers. Although the business was not booming, it was more than enough to support the family.
However, all of this was in the past.
The sky is unpredictable, and so is human life. His parents, who had inherited the shop from his grandfather, died in a car accident. Not wanting to spend his whole life running this shop, he had to sell it.
Now that the price had been agreed upon, he was here to do the final cleanup.
At this moment, looking at the familiar yet strange surroundings, he felt a sense of reluctance.
He had grown up playing here as a child and had a deep affection for everything in the shop. Those animal chess, flight chess, army chess, Chinese chess, Go, and those soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs, ping-pong balls, and so on, he had happily played with them all day without getting bored.
In a daze, he seemed to see a small figure playing carefree here.
He didn’t know how long it had been when he was suddenly startled by a commotion.
Raising his head in surprise, he immediately saw thick fog rising from all directions, with occasional sparks visible.
Not good, it’s on fire.
He sprang up, ready to escape, but the roof beam had already crashed down heavily.
In the last moment of being pinned under the roof, his mind had only one thought.
Why am I so unlucky!

"Master Yu, wake up, wake up..."
A hurried call seemed to come from a distant sky. His eyebrows twitched, and he finally woke up.
The first thing he saw was an old man with white hair looking at him anxiously. Only after he regained consciousness did the old man visibly relax.
"Master Yu, you’re finally awake. You really scared me."
The young man was stunned. Although he had just woken up and still felt a splitting headache, he could be 100% sure that he had never seen this old man before. Moreover, he had never been called "Master Yu" by anyone.
Perhaps seeing the pain in his eyes, the old man quickly comforted him, "Master Yu, rest assured, everything is under control." He added angrily, "Taking advantage of Miss Yu’s absence to try to take what’s not yours, how outrageous."
The young man was about to speak when his eyes suddenly went blank, staring at the old man without a word.
He suddenly realized that the old man’s attire was extremely peculiar, unlike any clothing he knew. If he had to describe it, it was something he had only seen in period dramas.
The old man extended his aged, spotted hand and rubbed the young man’s chest, comforting him softly, "Don’t worry, Miss will come back."
The young man forced a smile, his mouth tightly closed, afraid that opening it would result in a scream that would shock him.
Suddenly, a sharp voice rang out from outside the door.
"Yu Linghe, are you awake? If you are, it’s best to hurry up and put your fingerprint on the contract. Your grandfather doesn’t have time to waste on you."
The young man’s eyes widened, and his mind buzzed as countless memories flooded in like a tidal wave.
Yes, he had a completely unfamiliar name here, Yu Linghe. He had lived on this land for sixteen years.
This was a world of gods, a magical world where divine talents and star power were widespread.
He had a sister who was a prodigy. After his parents passed away, she had raised him. However, this sister had entered a dangerous place for a trial and had been missing for half a year.
It was said that once someone entered that dangerous place and went missing for a month, they were almost certainly dead.
Although he was unwilling to accept this fact, almost everyone had already concluded that this talented woman had perished in that dangerous place.
With his sister’s disappearance, more and more malevolent eyes were cast upon him.
Yu Linghe took a deep breath, using his elbows to force himself to sit up from the bed.
However, he immediately felt a crackling sensation in his body, accompanied by intense pain, almost knocking him down.
The old man’s face changed slightly, and he quickly supported him, saying, "Master Yu, be careful."
Yu Linghe smiled bitterly, "Uncle Fu, isn’t Mao Sanfan outside?"
This old man was a servant of his sister’s friend. The friend had entered the dangerous place with his sister and, before leaving, had asked Uncle Fu to take care of things.
Uncle Fu had done his best, but he couldn’t always be with him.
While Uncle Fu was in the city, Mao Sanfan had brought people to try to forcibly buy the family’s dozen acres of good land. Yu Linghe naturally refused, and as a result, suffered a severe beating and fainted on the spot.
For some reason, the young man’s soul had entered this unconscious body and had just woken up.
Uncle Fu hesitated for a moment and said softly, "Master Yu, rest for a moment. I’ll deal with them."
Shaking his head slightly, Yu Linghe said slowly, "Uncle Fu, I have to go out and see."
He straightened his chest and moved step by step toward the door. Although his body still ached, it was just superficial pain, not a serious injury. His young body was strong enough to endure.
Uncle Fu hesitated for a moment behind him, then sighed and followed.
The door slowly opened, revealing a tall young man accompanied by four burly men, all looking at Yu Linghe with a cold smile.
The surrounding courtyards were all tightly closed, but occasionally, fearful eyes could be seen peering through the cracks.
"Yu Linghe," the young man said coolly, "How did you find yesterday’s lesson? Was it comfortable?"
Yu Linghe looked at him with a sharp gaze. If it were the weak Yu Linghe of the past, he would have been curled up in bed, hiding like a turtle.
However, a new soul now inhabited this body.
Smiling, Yu Linghe said, "Mao Sanfan, I will remember your kindness. When my sister returns, she will settle the score with you."
There was a sudden silence both inside and outside the door.
Whether it was the sneering Mao Sanfan or the astonished Uncle Fu, they all looked incredulous.
When did Master Yu ever have such courage? Could it be that the beating had transformed him?
After a long pause, Mao Sanfan finally came to his senses, his face flushing with anger. "Hmph, what a boast. Your sister entered the Chongming Swamp and has been missing for half a year. How could she possibly be alive? Relying on a dead person to support you is laughable."
He threw back his head and laughed loudly and without restraint.
Yu Linghe’s face was filled with anger, though even he didn’t understand why he felt such strong emotions.
He had just taken over this body and, although he had memories of the past sixteen years, he shouldn’t have such intense feelings. However, for some reason, the moment he heard the laughter, he couldn’t help but feel indignant.
Roaring, Yu Linghe, despite his injuries, was about to charge forward.
However, his wrist was gently but firmly held by Uncle Fu. Although Uncle Fu looked frail, his hands were as steady as a mountain. A light tug was enough to immobilize Yu Linghe.
Patting his arm lightly, Uncle Fu smiled, "Young Master, this is your home. Since they are causing trouble, I will deal with them for you."
Yu Linghe stared at Uncle Fu in shock, his mind racing. Could it be that he had such good luck to have a hidden master by his side?
Mao Sanfan looked at Uncle Fu coldly and said slowly, "Uncle Fu, are you trying to stand up for him? Hmph, aren’t you afraid of causing trouble for Shen Sheng?"
Uncle Fu’s face twitched, and he said, "Before the young master left, he instructed me to take care of Master Yu." He raised his head and continued, "The young master and Miss Yu entered the swamp together. If they can come out, they will come out together. If they can’t, then my life is of no importance."
His voice grew fainter, but a terrifying aura began to spread from him.
Mao Sanfan took a step back, his face becoming serious.
"Uncle Fu, you’re just an ordinary layman. Do you really want to oppose the Mao family? Think carefully."
The four burly men around him stepped forward simultaneously, surrounding him. Although they were many and strong, they treated Uncle Fu, who looked frail, as a formidable enemy.
Uncle Fu raised his head, his eyes flashing with a chilling light, "The young master’s instructions, I will complete even if it costs me my life."
Mao Sanfan said angrily, "Uncle Fu, your young master and that woman from the Yu family are both short-lived. They went deep into the swamp, and they are dead. You’re working so hard for a dead person, is it worth it?"
Uncle Fu’s face turned red with anger. His hair and beard stood on end, and his hands slowly rose, like an enraged bear about to pounce.
However, at that moment, a clear voice suddenly rang out, "Mao Sanfan, who did you call a short-lived person..."
