It turned out that this woman was the girl with the big braid whom Muyang had seen eating in the inn's hall at noon. However, she was now dressed in night clothes, and her hair was tied up.
Clearly, the woman also recognized Muyang. Both found it interesting and exchanged smiles. Muyang said, "I really didn't expect you to be a female warrior."
"I'm no female warrior. There are millions of anti-Japanese fighters across the country, and I'm just one of them. As for you, from your appearance and demeanor, you seem like a student from a well-off family. I'm truly surprised that you would step forward to help me," the woman said.
"Enough talk. Let me take a look at your wound and see if I can treat it," Muyang said, noticing how pale the woman looked. He really couldn't understand how she could still have the leisure to chat.
"There's no doctor here, no medicine or bandages to treat bullet wounds. The Japanese are searching the entire city, so there's no place to get medical help. Even if you look, it won't make any difference," the woman said calmly, as if she were not the one about to die. Muyang thought to himself, were all the martyrs of the past so fearless, putting life and death aside?
"Stop talking nonsense. Let me take a look first," Muyang interrupted, placing the oil lamp on the bedside table and then directly unbuttoning the woman's clothes.
"I'll do it myself," the woman said, knowing that this was not the time to be squeamish about gender. She lifted her blouse, revealing a wound on the left side of her abdomen. Muyang examined it carefully. Her skin was very white and smooth. *Pfft, pfft, pfft, what am I looking at?* The wound wasn't too serious; it hadn't hit any internal organs, just a deep cut on the skin, an external injury. It shouldn't be too hard to treat. If it had really hit her abdomen, Muyang wouldn't have been able to perform surgery to remove the bullet.
"What about the wound on your thigh? Let me see," Muyang urged.
At this point, the woman hesitated. Even for treatment, it was very awkward for a woman to take off her pants in front of a stranger.
"Don't dawdle. The Japanese might come searching at any moment. Hurry up," Muyang urged.
The woman gritted her teeth, closed her eyes, and undid the red sash around her waist, revealing green-patterned underpants and two white, smooth thighs. The left thigh, however, was now covered in blood, as if she had her period without any sanitary protection. Muyang didn't hesitate and stepped forward to examine it. The left thigh had been hit by a bullet, a through-and-through wound. It wasn't clear if it had hit the bone, but a lot of blood had been lost.
The wound on her waist was less serious, with less bleeding. The thigh, however, needed to be bandaged quickly to prevent excessive blood loss.
"Lie down on the bed and don't move. I'll be right back," Muyang said, then walked out of the bedroom and directly back to the modern era.
Although Muyang had been in the Republic of China era for four days, only ten hours had passed in the main timeline. When he returned, he looked at the digital clock on the wall, which read around 5:30 PM. This weekend had been both fulfilling and long.
Without delay, he changed clothes, took some money, and headed to the nearest pharmacy. He had no experience treating external injuries, but he had checked online before coming, so he knew roughly what to buy. Fortunately, there were no bullets left in the woman's wound, or Muyang would have been at a loss.
He bought antiseptic gauze, wound cleaning solution, alcohol, iodine, stainless steel forceps, several bottles of Yunnan Baiyao, bandages, anti-inflammatory drugs, painkillers, tetanus tablets, and fever reducers. These were all he could think of.
As for anesthetics, tetanus shots, and anti-inflammatory injections, those required a doctor's prescription, which Muyang couldn't get. Although the pills were less effective than injections, they could still prevent infection. Given the rudimentary conditions, he had to make do.
These items cost him 400 yuan, nearly bankrupting him. Without delay, he took the medicine home, grabbed some camping equipment he had used before, and directly traveled back to the inn in the Republic of China era.
Muyang returned to the bedroom from the living room, closed the door, and quickly turned on a flashlight. The room immediately brightened, and the woman's entire figure was exposed to Muyang.
Her shirt was pulled up, revealing a smooth, flat abdomen and prominent, firm breasts. Her pants were pulled down to her knees, exposing two white, smooth thighs. Her skin was fine and white, not the kind of delicate, frail beauty of modern girls, but rather a healthy, vibrant beauty.
Of course, if it weren't for the blood all over her body, she would have been even more beautiful, Muyang thought to himself.
Stop daydreaming and save her. He brought a chamber pot into the room, moved the woman's leg outward, and felt the smooth skin. However, this wasn't the time to think about that. Muyang took out hydrogen peroxide and began cleaning the wound, using forceps to hold cotton and continuously wiping the sides of the bullet hole, occasionally poking inside. This caused a lot of blood to flow into the chamber pot.
The woman bit her lip, her face even paler. Muyang couldn't bear to see her in pain and quickly took a roll of bandage, stuffing it in her mouth to prevent her from screaming or biting her lip.
There was no anesthetic, so this was the most painful method. He hoped the woman could hold on.
After cleaning, he continuously disinfected the wound with alcohol and iodine, pouring three entire bottles of Yunnan Baiyao to block the sides of the wound. He then sealed the wound with adhesive bandages and wrapped it with gauze, completing the treatment of the thigh wound. The effectiveness would only be known by the woman herself.
The wound on her waist was easier to handle. Although it looked serious, it was just a deep cut. He disinfected it, applied medicine, and bandaged it, and everything was fine.
"Can you hold on?" Muyang asked, seeing the woman's face covered in sweat and her pale complexion.
The woman took the bandage out of her mouth and said, "I didn't expect you to be so professional. Are you a medical student? Your supplies are quite comprehensive, which is quite rare."
"Take the medicine first. There's still a lot to do. The Japanese might come searching, so we need to prepare," Muyang said.
"You're quite meticulous," the woman commented.
"These are anti-inflammatory drugs, tetanus pills, fever reducers, and painkillers. Take an extra pill of this one to relieve your pain," Muyang said, bringing a cup of water and handing the medicine to the woman.
"Where did you get these medicines? It's rare to find such a complete set in domestic pharmacies," the woman asked, curious.
Muyang didn't respond and started tidying up the room. All suspicious items, medicines, blood-stained clothes, and bedding were moved to the living room and then into the space. He truly appreciated the benefits of having a space, a universal storage solution.
There were also bloodstains on the floor of the outer room. Muyang brought a broom, dustpan, mop, and sand from home to clean the bloodstains on the floor. He opened the window to ventilate the room and disperse the血腥气. He climbed out of the window to clean the bloodstains on the low wall outside, then climbed back into the room.
The woman lay on the bed, watching Muyang tidy the room, clean the bloodstains, and even climb out of the window. She realized he was cleaning the bloodstains outside, and a smile appeared on her face, thinking what a meticulous man he was.
Finally, Muyang took out a bottle of deodorant from his pocket and sprayed it around the room, feeling that the smell was finally normal and putting his mind at ease.
"Now, the only thing left is how to hide you. What do you think would be the safest way?" Muyang asked the woman.
The woman thought for a moment and said, "Hiding in the cabinet is the least wise choice. It's better to lie in bed and say we're a married couple. If they come, I'll stay in bed and not get up."
"Do you think the Japanese will let a girl in just a nightgown go easily?" Muyang said irritably.
"Then what do you suggest?"
"Of course, we have to accept the inspection. What else can we do? You'll need to show the same courage and willpower you had during the surgery," Muyang said.
"If you have a good plan, I agree. I'm just worried that my face will look too bad and they'll notice," the woman said, not thinking it was a good idea.
"Don't worry about that. Wait for me, I'll go prepare," Muyang said, walking out of the bedroom.
"He's quite a mysterious guy, carrying everything with him," the woman thought, becoming interested in Muyang.
