"Kid, you’re really arrogant, do you think just because you have a bit of strength, you can look down on everyone?"
One was beaten back, and another stepped forward. Do you think you’re a revolutionary worker, ready to step up one after another? But some still thought Liu Nan was no match for them, and another gorilla stood up. His build was so massive, he was almost fit to play Popeye.
"What, gorilla, are you going to stand up for that mad dog?"
Liu Nan tilted his head and said to the gorilla. Such a guy, all bark and no bite, Liu Nan had seen plenty of them, and they were very easy to deal with. The more tough a man is, the more likely he is to break down inside after being hit. This was mentioned in the special agent training manual, where female agents often endure interrogation better than male agents.
Mad dog, gorilla—Liu Nan’s definitions of these flower protectors made the two girls laugh. What an interesting person. Liu Nan’s gaze was also drawn to Micaela. Her electric eyes were truly captivating, it seemed his spring had arrived. Liu Nan had already decided not to give Micaela’s destined prince, Sam, any chance. He was going to make his move first.
"Yellow monkey, you’re asking for it!"
The gorilla clearly learned from the mad dog’s mistake and kicked directly over. He was very confident. Although he was just a high school student now, even adults couldn’t withstand his kick. He had already joined the school’s rugby team, relying on his strong body.
"Ah!"
The girls screamed softly again, but this time their eyes were wide open, unsure if Liu Nan would handle it as easily as before.
Liu Nan did not disappoint the girls. He still extended his pianist-like hands, at least that’s what the girls thought. Liu Nan accurately caught the gorilla’s kicking foot.
"Looks like calling you a gorilla was too generous. You’re just a golden monkey, not much better than the Chihuahua from before. So, go back to your Chihuahua."
Liu Nan exerted force, and the gorilla, no, the golden monkey, was thrown out, then crashed into the Chihuahua who was still holding his hand. The two tumbled together.
When dealing with racists, Liu Nan never lets them off easily. Since both of them called him a yellow monkey, Liu Nan declared that their high school life would not be easy.
The remaining flower protectors, seeing the misfortune of the golden monkey and the Chihuahua, quickly averted their eyes from Liu Nan, afraid of catching his attention. They immediately packed their bags and moved away from Micaela and Katie.
"Peter, David, no need to go to the corner, there are seats here, we can sit here, the view is good."
Since those people were sensible, Liu Nan naturally wouldn’t disappoint their good intentions and placed his bag on the table next to Micaela.
Peter and David, seeing this, also perked up. Look, how awesome their friend is. David chose the seat next to Katie, while poor Peter had to sit next to David.
"Hi, nice to meet you, I’m Liu Nan Scott."
Liu Nan sat down and extended his hand to Micaela.
"Hi, I’m Micaela Baines, nice to meet you. You were so cool just now, was that Chinese kung fu?"
Micaela also extended her model-like hand, and Liu Nan could already hear some hearts breaking.
"Exactly, I believe you can tell, I’m Chinese."
"Yes, I thought Chinese kung fu was just more graceful, but I didn’t expect it to be so powerful. Is China a nation of martial artists? I’ve seen it on TV, those kids all line up to practice martial arts. China is really amazing."
Micaela’s words left Liu Nan speechless. It’s hard to blame her, with the limited channels of communication between the two countries and the underdeveloped internet industry in China, the only way to communicate is through the media. Everyone knows what the media is like, they exaggerate Chinese radio calisthenics as martial arts, and when Americans see students doing calisthenics on the playground, they think China is a nation of martial artists, which makes it easier for politicians to spread the China threat theory.
"Um, actually, there’s a misunderstanding. Those students aren’t practicing martial arts, it’s just a simplified fitness routine. Chinese students have heavy academic burdens and can only use this routine to exercise. You’ve been misled by those politicians."
Liu Nan explained a bit, though it might be insignificant to the whole American society, he could at least change one person’s mind.
"Oh, I see. Those despicable politicians, they just mislead the public for their own benefit, they can turn black into white."
Hearing Liu Nan’s explanation, Micaela said angrily. Liu Nan knew that Micaela had no good feelings towards the government, as she never felt any warmth from it. In fact, most Americans have complaints about the government, which is a normal state of the country.
Liu Nan had won over Micaela, and David had also successfully chatted up Katie, though Katie’s attitude towards David was a bit indifferent. If David weren’t Liu Nan’s friend, Katie probably wouldn’t even look at him. David’s hidden talent was being ignored by beautiful women. In the movie, David only gained Katie’s recognition after revealing his identity as Kick-Ass.
With beautiful women by their side, time always passes quickly. By the end of the first day, Liu Nan was already getting along well with Micaela. With his quick wit and increased intelligence, the talk show segments he had seen in his past life were back in his mind, and he could easily recall those classic jokes.
David, on the other hand, was tragic. After being ignored by Katie a few times, he could only find his good friend or listen carefully. He was very envious of Liu Nan’s eloquence.
"Hey, finally school’s out. Liu Nan, where do you live?"
"546 Paso Street, what about you guys?"
"Wow, Paso Street, that’s a high-end community. I’m not that lucky, I live on Orange Street."
"I live on Hamilton Street, so we’re going in three different directions."
After school, Liu Nan, Peter, and David took their bikes to go home.
"Hey, Liu Nan, look, it’s the golden monkey and that Chihuahua. They’re probably going to cause trouble for you."
Just out of the school gate, Peter, with his sharp eyes, immediately saw a group of people not far away, led by the golden monkey, with a few older students in their uniforms.
"Looks like we need to re-establish our status. Peter, David, you guys go ahead, I’ll take care of it and come home later."
Liu Nan told Peter and David to go ahead. With so many of them, if a fight broke out, he couldn’t protect Peter and David. They weren’t superheroes yet and couldn’t take a beating.
"How can we do that? We won’t abandon you. Liu Nan, you’re strong, but you’re not a match for so many. With us two helping you, we can live up to our reputation as the Three Musketeers."
Peter pushed his bike onto the grass, though his legs were trembling, he didn’t back down. He truly had the genes of a future superhero, with a deep sense of justice.
"Right, we’re the Three Musketeers, we won’t run away."
David was the same, even though he was scared, he stood firm.
Liu Nan was a bit moved but had some reservations about the name "Three Musketeers." He wasn’t a lowlife, and if they wanted to be, they could.
"Alright, you two be careful. Just stay back and defend. These guys are no match for me."
Liu Nan walked towards the golden monkey and his group. These big, showy buffaloes were easy to handle with one hand.
The other students leaving school also noticed the situation. Americans have a deep-seated love for spectacles, especially during the hormone-fueled teenage years. They idolize violent behavior. This morning, the news of Liu Nan taking down the golden monkey and the Chihuahua had spread throughout the school. Now, Liu Nan was about to perform again, and no student who hadn’t seen him in action would want to miss it.
"Micaela, look at those boys, they’re causing trouble again. Hormones are really rampant, drinking and fighting, boys are so boring."
Katie also saw the situation outside the school and said to Micaela.
Katie had a reason for disliking fighting. One of her friends, Rasul, was a troublemaker, always hanging around the streets and bothering her, which she found very repulsive. In the movie, Katie asked David to deal with Rasul, but the weak David, without the accident, would have had a hard time getting out of it without the help of Hit-Girl.
"Boys, they always need to vent their excess energy. Don’t you think it’s cool? Liu Nan is so skilled, he’s really cool."
Micaela was different from Katie. She admired the strong, which was related to her upbringing. Katie grew up in a middle-class family, with no worries about food and drink, and she liked doing good deeds, such as participating in various volunteer activities. Micaela, on the other hand, had a criminal father and lived at the bottom of society, where the strong always ruled. In the movie, Micaela’s boyfriend was the captain of the school’s rugby team, more charming than Sam. If Sam didn’t have a transforming car, he wouldn’t have been able to win Micaela’s heart.
"Yellow monkey, the classroom was too small for me to move around. Now, I’m giving you a chance to apologize. Otherwise, you won’t have an easy time at school."
The golden monkey said arrogantly, giving himself an excuse.
"Golden monkey, you’re really asking for it. Since you keep pushing me, you won’t have an easy time either. You think a bunch of cats and dogs can do anything? I want to see what you’ve got."
The golden monkey called Liu Nan a yellow monkey again, and Liu Nan’s anger couldn’t be contained. He wouldn’t let it go without giving him a lesson.
