Chapter 26: The Fierce Instructor!

6 min read1,490 words

There were 120 new students in the psychology department, all of whom had come to register, with no one absent. There were 22 girls and 98 boys. Because there were so few girls, the girls' squad was merged into the mechanical and electrical engineering department, which also had a severe shortage of girls.

With 98 boys, they were perfectly divided into two squads, each with 49 members. All the majors were mixed, and Tang Chong, Li Yu, Liang Tao, and Hua Ming were all placed in the first squad.

Before the military training began, there was a small mobilization meeting. At that time, school leaders and military commanders would give speeches.

Therefore, under the leadership of the temporary class leader, Lu Yifei, appointed by Li Qiang, the 49 members of the first squad stood on the playground in three rows, waiting for the instructors and school leaders to inspect them.

Other new students from different departments also gathered here, as they would also be inspected and given "spiritual encouragement" by the leaders.

At eight o'clock, leaders began to ascend the inspection platform. The military commanders and school leaders, wearing military caps, took their seats on the stage.

A middle-aged man with glasses walked over, tested the microphone, and loudly said, "Students, let's give a warm applause to welcome President Wang Chiguo's speech."

The new students were curious about everything and were a bit excited to see the president of Nanjing University. They were willing to give their enthusiastic applause to the top figure of this prestigious university.

An elderly man with a square face and a commanding presence stood up, waved to the audience, and then walked to the microphone on the stand, saying with great authority, "Students, welcome to Nanjing University."

Clap, clap, clap

The audience once again burst into thunderous applause.

President Wang Chiguo waved his hand and said, "This year's exam was very difficult, and Nanjing University's admission score was very high. The fact that you are standing here today proves that you have put in more effort and sweat than others. However, this does not mean that from now on, you can rest on your laurels. This is a new starting point. Only by working even harder can you avoid falling behind your equally excellent classmates. Today, I am proud of Nanjing University, and tomorrow, Nanjing University will be proud of you. I hope that each of you will achieve something that makes Nanjing University proud."

"Health is the capital of revolution. Health is also the capital of learning. The military training for new students is not only a test of your physical strength but also of your spirit. I hope that under the guidance of these specially invited excellent instructors, after a month, you will not only have a strong body but also a fearless, resilient, and confident heart."

"Once again, welcome to Nanjing University."

Rustle, rustle

The applause sounded once again.

Then, President Wang Chiguo invited the military commander to speak.

After the military commander's speech, the one-month military training officially began.

A row of instructors in military uniforms walked out. Their straight backs, handsome faces, and the tough aura they exuded caused the girls in the formation to scream with excitement one after another.

After the military commander gave them a stern lecture, they quickly dispersed and walked to the front of each squad in order.

Standing in front of the first class of the psychology department was a dark-faced man, thin but strong-looking.

His eyes swept over the entire field, and he shouted in a deep voice, "First class, attention."

Whoosh

Involuntarily, everyone straightened their backs at the command.

"At ease."

So, everyone relaxed again.

"Attention," the dark-faced man shouted again.

Everyone tensed up.

"At ease."

They relaxed again.

"Attention."

"..."

Some students in the back began to feel impatient.

Is this instructor just playing with us?

He didn't say anything, didn't introduce himself, and just kept making them "attention" and "at ease."

"Attention."

"At ease."

"Attention."

"At ease."

At first, everyone followed along, but later, the boys stopped moving. He could shout all he wanted, but they stood there lazily.

"Looks like you don't know anything about military knowledge," the dark-faced man shouted loudly. "As men, how can you not even do something as simple as 'attention' and 'at ease'? Does 'at ease' mean you should relax your entire body and become a noodle?"

"Instructor, you didn't teach us," someone in the back shouted.

"Instructor, as a man, do you know anything about psychology?"

"Instructor knows psychology."

The dark-faced man was furious and roared, "Who said that? Step out."

No one stepped out. No one spoke.

Clearly, the first meeting between the instructor and the students was not pleasant.

"Very well. No one wants to step out, right? No one wants to speak, right?" the instructor sneered. "Everyone, about face."

Whoosh

Everyone turned around.

"Target, basketball court. March." The instructor led the way, and the nearly 40 boys of the first class followed him to the concrete ground with no trees for shade.

"My name is Li Tieshu. From today, I am your instructor for the first class," the dark-faced man stood in front of the first class, his stern eyes scanning them, and he shouted in a low voice.

Chuckle

Someone laughed.

Li Tieshu? What a rustic name.

"Laughing? What's so funny?" the instructor shouted. He pointed to a boy in the second row and said, "You, step out."

The boy tried to control his expression and carefully walked to the front of the instructor.

"Was it you who laughed just now?"

"Instructor, I wasn't laughing at you..."

"Shut up," Li Tieshu shouted. "Now, I'll teach you the first rule. When the instructor asks a question, you can only answer 'yes' or 'no.'"

"Yes, Instructor," the round-faced boy shouted loudly.

"Very good. Since you like to laugh so much, laugh for five minutes in front of everyone. Time starts now."

"..." The boy didn't laugh.

"I said, start laughing now," Li Tieshu's eagle-like eyes stared at the boy, and he shouted loudly.

The boy's eyes welled up with tears. He cried.

"Useless," Li Tieshu scolded.

He didn't let the boy return to the formation just because he cried. Instead, he kept his eyes on the stopwatch. After five minutes, he shouted, "Return to the formation."

The boy didn't laugh, but he made him cry in front of the entire class for five minutes.

When Li Tieshu scanned the field again, the boys began to consciously avoid his gaze.

They knew this guy was a demon. He had countless ways to torment and tease you.

"Now, I'll teach you the second rule," Li Tieshu said in a deep voice.

Just then, a few boys ran over and tried to squeeze into the formation, causing chaos.

Li Tieshu's face turned ashen, and he strode to the middle of the formation, grabbing a boy's shoulder and shouting, "You, step out."

"You, you, and you, step out."

He seemed to have a pair of eagle eyes, pulling out the five boys who were late and trying to avoid punishment. Hua Ming and Liang Tao, Tang Chong's roommates, were among them.

Tang Chong had called them once when he left, telling them to get up quickly and not be late. He didn't expect them to sleep until now and miss the mobilization meeting.

"Why are you late?" Li Tieshu shouted loudly.

"Because we woke up late," one boy said with a smile.

"I was waiting for the toilet," another boy said.

"Report, Instructor, I was wrong," Hua Ming stood straight and answered loudly.

Li Tieshu looked at Hua Ming in surprise and said, "All excuses are not reasons for being late. You, run 15 laps around the playground."

He then turned to the formation and shouted, "Who are their roommates? Step out."

So, Tang Chong, Li Yu, and five other unlucky boys stepped out.

Li Tieshu stared at Tang Chong and the others and said, "As their roommates, why didn't you wake them up when you left? Is this what you call deep friendship? Now, you will run 15 laps around the playground with them."

The three boys were full of resentment and tried to argue, saying they had called them, but they didn't want to get up, and it wasn't their fault, so the instructor shouldn't punish them.

Tang Chong didn't do such a foolish thing. He had already taken Li Yu, Liang Tao, and Hua Ming and started running laps around the playground.

Because Tang Chong knew that in the military, there was only one rule: obey orders.

(PS: This is a story about the trivial matters that happen or could happen on campus. I really like it and hope you will too. This is the third chapter of today, dedicated to those who enjoy this light-hearted story. Of course, there will be heavier content later.
