Liang Rong and Song Ning took the initiative to stay after dinner to wash the dishes since they did not participate in the cooking process earlier.
The cameras in the surroundings had not been removed yet. When Liang Rong helped Song Ning roll up his sleeves, he whispered into Song Ning’s ear to quietly tease him, “I couldn’t tell you were this good at conversing.”
Song Ning thought back on what he said and was now a little worried. “Did I say too much? Will it garner hate for you?”
“It won’t. You did well.”
Liang Rong paused and added, “Was I really childish at that time?”
Song Ning weighed his words carefully before answering, “Not as mature as you are now, for sure.”
Liang Rong nodded in agreement.
35.
The production team arranged a small cabin for each group of guests and they were all littered around the farm.
Liang Rong and Song Ning were the last ones to pick and they ended up with a cabin with a bunk bed.
Liang Rong’s face instantly darkened. He called over the production team and asked how could anyone sleep in such a small bed, requesting it to be replaced by a larger bed.
The director didn’t dare to offend a big shot like him, so he could only smile while explaining, “It’s too late to send over a new bed right now. How about tomorrow?”
Liang Rong still refused to speak as his cold expression remained. It looked a lot like he refused to back down.
Song Ning was quite surprised. To his knowledge, Liang Rong was never such an unreasonable person.
Seeing that the situation was now in a deadlock and the cameras were still on them, Song Ning was afraid it would affect Liang Rong’s image and persuaded him, “It’s okay. We haven’t slept in a bunk bed after graduating from university. It’s nice to reminisce a little.”
Liang Rong looked at him and didn’t say anything else anymore.
36.
The two of them returned to the cabin and closed the door, shutting out the cameras outside. Liang Rong instantly returned to his usual gentle demeanour.
Song Ning asked, “What happened just now?”
Liang Rong answered, “Reality shows require conflicts. Or there won’t be any topics to be discussed after it airs. The production team spent a lot to invite me, so I have work harder for them.”
Song Ning was stunned after learning that.
But he still thought that Liang Rong really did want to sleep in a bigger bed.
At night, Song Ning slept on the top bunk. The temperature difference between day and night in the countryside were really big. Even with a thin quilt, it still felt cold.
Liang Rong poked his head out from the bottom bunk and asked, “Are you cold? Do you want to come down and sleep with me here?”
Song Ning thought the bed was too small for two people and it would be uncomfortable if it was crowded, so he replied, “I’m not cold.”
Liang Rong didn’t answer at first but after a while, he said quietly, “I think it’s quite cold.”
Song Ning had no choice but to climb down in his pajamas.
37.
The next morning, while Song Ning was still brushing his teeth, the production team had come to announce their missions. Their first mission was to prepare lunch according to the menu given.
Liang Rong took over the menu and read it out once, then shouted to Song Ning in the cabin, “We have to make cold cucumber salad and scrambled eggs with tomatoes. It’s okay, it’s quite simple.”
Song Ning’s voice came from inside, “Then where are the cucumber, tomatoes and eggs?”
Liang Rong didn’t expect this question. He went to the vegetable garden behind the house and walked a circle around it. He came to the conclusion that none of them could be found there and came back empty-handed.
Song Ning understood what was going on. The vegetables they need should be in other people’s gardens. To put it bluntly, this was a game of stealing vegetables.
After some discussion, the two decided to send Song Ning to steal the vegetables while Liang Rong was responsible for guarding their own vegetable garden.
Before leaving, Liang Rong suggested an idea to Song Ning, “Go steal it from Xiao Jiang’s house first. He won’t dare to resist.”
38.
Xiao Jiang was Liang Rong’s junior from the same company who helped them out at dinner last night. Song Ning had a pretty good impression of him.
He picked up a small bamboo basket and headed to his cabin, followed closely by a camera director behind.
Song Ning’s heart was panicking as he was entrusted with such a big task on his own for his first time being on TV show. He was pondering what to do if they didn’t let him steal it later on, if he could resort to snatching by force.
Fortunately, when he came to Yang Han’s vegetable garden, no one was there. Song Ning rushed to pull out two cucumbers from the vines.
But before he could put them in his basket, he heard a voice from behind him. “Sister-in-law, no need to rush. Take more.”
39.
Song Ning was so scared, he dropped the cucumbers on the ground.
Xiao Jiang helped him pick them up. After turning his microphone off, he quietly said to him, “Brother Rong and I are under the same manager. He told me everything, so please don’t worry. My lips are tightly sealed.”
Song Ning calmed himself down, put the cucumbers in the basket and asked, “Do you still have tomatoes here?”
Xiao Jiang said yes, then led Song Ning to get the tomatoes while they gossiped on the way there. “Did you and Brother Rong really get together when he was sixteen?”
Song Ning hesitated a little before nodding.
Xiao Jiang became excited, “No wonder so many people were going after him but he didn’t show any interest.”
Song Ning suddenly turned alert, “Who went after him?”
41.
Song Ning was a little unhappy on his way back after acquiring the vegetables. Although he had long since known that someone attractive like Liang Rong would had suitors, but his heart still felt like it was clogged up with anxiety.
Being in love really did made people become petty.
The moment he got back to his own vegetable garden, he saw the female idol from last night asking for some celery from Liang Rong. He refused, but the female idol tried to curry favour by acting cute. Song Ning rushed in to block her.
Song Ning grabbed a handful of cilantro and put it in her basket. “These look similar to celery. You can make do with it.”
The female idol froze. After two seconds, she asked, “Did you two have a fight?”
Liang Rong’s brain spun really quickly. He hugged Song Ning and said, “Nope. We’re getting along fine.”
The female idol didn’t even need the celery anymore. She smiled and ran away with her face written full of happiness.
