⠀⠀On a rural dirt road, a seemingly normal looking carriage moved along slowly. The driver of the carriage was a young man dressed in black clothes and robes. His face was solemn, and on his waist hung a sword. At first glance, he was dressed as inconspicuously as this normal carriage.
A young girl’s delicate but clear voice came out from inside the carriage, “Miss, why did you reject elder gongzi’s plan to send you back to the capital? The journey is so long, what if something happens in the middle?”
It could be seen that the talking girl was relatively cheerful and lively. At the same time, it could also be seen that the person who was called ‘Miss’ did not have a usual noble lady’s arrogance. After all, there were no servants who could talk to their Miss so disrespectfully.
But before the person who was complaining could reply, the person who was sitting outside and driving the carriage spoke first, “Fu Ling, are you doubting me! Saying I can’t protect the lady?”
The woman with the soft voice from earlier didn’t reply, just snorted and ignored him.
Instead, another voice sounded, “I’m afraid Fu Ling can’t bear to part with elder gongzi, so she had no choice but to complain that Miss didn’t allow elder gongzi to send her off properly. But with our skills and Yi Ling, how can we not protect Miss?”
Fu Ling stuck out her tongue and continued, “Of course I don’t want to leave elder gongzi, he’s such an immortal person, do you want to leave him? Leave the Song family?”
Yu Zhu glanced at the woman sitting across from her who seemed to be taking a nap, and motioned for Fu Ling not to continue.
But the woman seemed to understand their concerns and though her eyes were closed, the corner of her mouth had a pure and light smile. “You don’t have to worry about me. Although I’m reluctant to leave Jiangnan, I’m not as sad that I have to go back to the capital as you can imagine. It’s what I knew would happen early on, and now, it’s just time.”
The woman’s voice had a faint laughter in it, mild and indifferent, but with a little more grace and a little more understanding and tolerance for the two girls.
Hearing that, Fu Ling finally exhaled a breath, finally relieved because of her Miss’ words, “It’s good that Miss is fine.”
Yu Zhu looked at her with some amusement, “After so many years, you are still so impertinent.”
But apparently that didn’t discourage Fu Ling, “It’s only because I’m so reckless that I can add some fun to Miss’ life. “
The carriage continued on its way again with loud and cheerful voices coming from inside.
Su Yunchu lifted a corner of the curtain and took one more look at the sky of Jiangnan where she had lived for seven years. Here, almost everywhere contained memories.
The carriage was still traveling unhurriedly from Jiangnan all the way back to the capital. According to the current speed of the carriage, this journey was estimated to take more than a month before they would arrive.
⠀⠀Half a month ago, a letter came from the capital saying that now that she was 14 years old, it was time for her to return and fulfill her marriage contract that had been made when she was a child. The Song family had originally wanted to help her get rid of this engagement but in the end, she stopped them. She had already previously known about this marriage contract but didn’t know the personality and temperament of her fiancé. In the seven years she spent in Jiangnan, although she was not isolated from the world, the affairs and matters of the capital had not reached her. From when her uncle had taken her back to the Song family seven years ago, the Su fu in the capital had shown no interest in her.
She had grown up in the Su fu and even though her mother was no longer here, her life with her mother was spent there. Even if the Su fu did not care about her, she still had to go back to the capital, back to the Su fu, instead of staying in her ancestor’s Song family for the rest of her life.
In this era, even if she didn’t mind, for the sake of the Song family, she couldn’t stay in Jiangnan forever because her surname was Su and not Song.
Yu Zhu and Fu Ling seemed to know what was on her mind and didn’t disturb her, only saying, “Miss, the sky is already dark, so let’s stay overnight at the town in front of us.”
“Mm.” Su Yunchu responded, agreeing to this arrangement.
Resting for the night and continuing the journey the next day, Su Yunchu thought that she should be able to return to the Su fu next month to celebrate her grandmother’s birthday. A grandmother who she didn’t have much of a good impression of, but she couldn’t miss this birthday banquet this time. After all, one’s 60th birthday banquet was a special day.
Thinking of this, Su Yunchu couldn’t help but think of her grandparents in her previous life. Her grandmother had passed away in a medical accident and couldn’t even celebrate her 60th birthday. It was that accident that made her grandfather, who had loved her since childhood, ask her not to become a military doctor in his lifetime.
Her grandmother was originally an army doctor with the Special Forces, and her grandfather was a highly regarded military commander even after his retirement. At that particular time, they fell in love and later had a family, and she inherited both her grandmother’s medical skills and her grandfather’s military qualities. And even more so, she inherited a greater love and understanding of those who spend their days among the Special Forces. Even if she had no medical skill, she would have still been a competent special forces soldier because after all that training, she was more than qualified. Judging from the identity of her grandfather, the identity of her uncles, the ability of her siblings, she was a person from a military family.
However, she didn’t want to agree to her grandfather’s request not to be a military doctor so she became a forensic physician instead and ended up dying in the middle of a peacekeeping operation that she was hiding from her grandfather. A decision that had likely been a hit to his heart.
Fortunately, after living again, this grandfather who grew up with her, loved her just as much as he did, and like her grandfather, was also a soldier….
Su Yunchu was caught up in her memories, but for some reason, suddenly frowned.
The change was so abrupt that Fu Ling and Yu Zhu still didn’t understand what had happened, but were alerted by her change, “Miss?”
“It smells like blood!”
Yu Zhu and Fu Ling calmed their minds, sniffed the air twice, and also smelled blood, immediately and subconsciously making a defensive guarding stance around Su Yunchu.
Su Yunchu felt a little helpless; these two girls always treated her as a weak woman with no power.
Restraining their two hands, Su Yunchu was somewhat amused, “Your Miss is not that delicate.”
Ying Li, as their driver, had already stopped the carriage, “Miss, do you need your subordinate to go and check it out?”
Their sense of smell for blood was not as sharp as Su Yunchu who was once a doctor, but they were able to detect it in time.
Even though she no longer considered medicine her profession in this lifetime, the duty of being a doctor still existed in her, so she also instructed Ying Li, “Go check it out.”
But apparently Ying Li hadn’t left yet so Yu Zhu went out first, “Ying Li, you protect Miss, I’ll go check it out.”
By the time the voice fell, the person had already left.
Not long after, Yu Zhu returned, “Miss, there is no sign of a fight in the forest, but there is a man unconscious in the dense forest with serious injuries.”
To be able to be injured in a place like this, with no signs of a fight, this must not be the original fight area, and the singular injured person must not be a simple person either.
“Is there any distinctive features on the body? Can you tell who it is?” Su Yunchu continued to inquire.
Su Yunchu had instilled some of the basic skills of the special forces in these three people. Among them, Ying Li yielded the best results, due to the difference between male and female physique as well as his mind and ability.
Yu Zhu shook her head, knowing her ability was lacking compared to Ying Li, and at this moment, felt chagrined.
Su Yunchu didn’t blame her. After all, she couldn’t demand the same from them as she did in her previous life.
“Let’s go over and take a look.” Yunchu said lightly.
But apparently the three of them didn’t quite agree with this decision of hers.
They simultaneously spoke out, “Miss…” which was considered stopping her.
But they knew that they could not change her mind once Su Yunchu made a decision.
She wasn’t really a kind and naive person. On the contrary, she was smart, sensible, calm and self-possessed. Unlike a fourteen year old girl, she knew what to do in all situations and had a kind of maturity and wisdom that didn’t match her age.
They couldn’t stop her and could only follow.
They walked through the dense forest and found the man under some bushes also wearing all black. Only, compared to Ying Li, the silk brocade black robe that this young man was wearing was clearly much more luxurious. There were many wounds and excessive bleeding on his body, and Su Yunchu did not pay much attention to his overly angry and godly face, as the top of the face that should have been lonely, cold and handsome, was already covered with contaminated blood.
Entering a deep coma, there was even the possibility he would go into shock. At first glance, this was the diagnosis Su Yunchu gave when she saw the man.
For the man whose body was covered in blood, Su Yunchu did not show a disgusted expression. At this moment, the man in front of her was only a seriously injured patient in her eyes, and in an instant, she had turned into the military doctor who had rescued wounded people on numerous occasions.
She stepped forward and carefully observed the man’s injuries. When she had just touched the man, she was immediately slapped subconsciously in self-defense by him. Su Yunchu removed his hand, not angry in the least. It could be seen that the man was an extremely responsive person, that even under such circumstances, he could still have such a reaction, almost exceeding the limits of the human body itself.
She stopped the three people who were going to come up to protect her, and only spoke softly, “I’m a doctor with no ill intentions. Passing through here, I saw you were injured, and came to see if maybe I could help you.”
The soft voice carried clarity in it It was unclear if the man heard her, but had no adverse reaction.
Su Yunchu checked the external injuries on his body then gently lifted his eyelids to observe his responsiveness to bright light. However, once she lifted those eyelids, she was startled….
Perhaps, unintentionally, she had actually saved someone of noble status.
However, regardless of whether his life was precious or not, this person had to be saved. Putting aside her status, she was just a doctor, and he was just a seriously injured patient.
