“Teach you how to use a sword?”
“Yes.”
One day, the witch I lived with asked me to train her with a sword.
But why me!? Didn’t I tell her I’m a former assassin?
“Uh, shouldn’t you learn the proper swordsmanship from real swordsmen?”
“I’m happy you’re self-aware that you’re abnormal, but I don’t have the strength to use a long sword like them.”
“Oh. Yeah, it must be hard when you’re so tiny.”
True… wait, was that an insult right now!? I’m used to your insults so I don’t care though!
I looked up from the floor I was cleaning, to Tina, who was cleaning the windows.
“But my sword style is only meant to kill. You fine with that?”
“I don’t mind. Practising something that’s not useful in fights is pointless.”
“I guess.”
“So please teach me.”
I’ve never taught anyone though. Oh well.
It’ll be fine.
…
…
It’ll be fine, right?
A good way of teaching is to make your student experience what you went through.
However, if I made her go through my training, she’d die. For sure.
So, I improvised as I went.
“You’re flexible, but you’ve got no strength.”
“I don’t, do I. I’ve got the body of a child after all. Am I flexible?”
“Relatively.”
We were out in the vacant land behind my house. Tina sat in a straddle, stretching her body until it was flat on the ground. She turned her head to look at me.
Nothing wrong with being flexible. Next, we need to get her faster and accurate.
That should be enough to compensate for her strength.
“Alright, let’s get started.”
I’ll teach her how to use a dagger and throw one while running. Once she gets used to it, she can practice on her own.
I lined up my daggers I had wrapped in cloth.
“Here, pick whichever one you like.”
“What’s different about them? They all look the same.”
“They’re the same. But some of their handles feel different, so pick one that fits you for now.”
“For now?”
“Assassins can’t always use the same weapon. I guess it doesn’t matter since you’re not an assassin.”
I took back one of the daggers and showed her how to hold it.
Then, I threw it at a fallen tree nearby, that I had drawn a target on to use in my free time.
The dagger pierced right into the centre.
The annoying part was the walk there and back to pull it out. I had considered attaching a string to my daggers to pull them back, but the target was too far for that to work.
I trudged there, pulled out the dagger and came back.
“That’s about the gist of it. It’s never a bad thing to practice your throwing.”
“I… didn’t realise how skilled you were.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
What did you think I was? I used to kill people for a living, okay? Now I’m a no-name officer who’s constantly at risk of getting fired though!
At least this is better than my previous job.
Afterwards, I helped her until she asked to practice alone, so I returned to the house.
Dinner had already been made, so I heated it, ate it, and as I went to my bedroom, I looked outside. She was still practising.
There must’ve been a reason why she worked so work hard. She probably had a lot going on in her life.
I didn’t know the reason, but it was an unspoken rule as her housemate to not touch on it.
She practised till midnight when I went to retrieve her, as she had fallen asleep.
I lifted her, gently, to not wake her up, but then something exploded!
I didn’t know what, but something made me go flying! Why!?
Anyway, you should take care of your body more! And stop sending me flying for no reason!
