In life, we’re fortunate, in that playing with mud as a child is the only time you have to taste soil.

I also think that when you’re as old as me, you’d be unfortunate to get buried in a field and made to taste soil. It’s actually quite sandy.

“Tina, you there? Let me out,” I said, softly.

But the witch behind the burying did not appear.

Hey, come on, where’d you go!? It’s illegal to plant someone in a field and leave! At least act as my scarecrow!

But man… she must’ve been furious to bury me in a spring onion field!

Buried up to my chin, I looked around the swaying spring onions… well, I wanted to look around but I couldn’t move my head.

Ugh, and the horrid spring onion stench keeps coming in waves. I’m gonna throw up.

Tina, I was wrong. I was wrong, so get me out already. Before I need the toilet.

My unfriendly witch housemate was often angry, I mean, I swear she was always angry, but sometimes her mood was exceptionally bad.

Today was one of those days, and of course, today was also the day I bumped into the vase in her room and broke it.

The vase was sooty and chipped but it must’ve been important to her. I feel bad.

At the time, however, I didn’t realise how important it was to her, so I apologised without much emotion behind it and the next thing I knew, I was stuck in here.

Who would’ve thought one blow from magic would make me faint. I always forget that cat’s a witch.

But, please… get me out. The crow on my head’s getting real loud!

I’ve reflected on my actions! I’ve reflected, so please get me out!

“Oh, you’re still alive?”

A while after my prayers, a voice talked down to me without a hint of care.

I stared at the two slim legs in front of me. Listen, I think it’s important to look someone in the face when they’re angry at you, but if I look up at this angle, I’m gonna lose my humanity!

Instead of looking her in the face, I rubbed my chin against the soil, even though my head barely turned.

“I’m sorry. I’ve reflected on my actions, o great witch.”

“You didn’t respond so I thought you died and buried you… but I see now, you’re alive.”

“Hold up. You’re saying you’d dump me in some spring onion field if I really died?”

“Isn’t that what you want? Being one with spring onions even after death? Lucky you, you get to become fertiliser for the spring onions.”

“Just admit I hate spring onions already! I don’t want my corpse to be treated like this!”

Bury me somewhere else if you’re gonna buy me at all. You’d bother the owners of the spring onion field if you bury a corpse there!

A soft sigh came from above.

Soon after, she snapped her fingers and my body was thrown out.

I rolled by reflex, landing on my feet, to which Tina rolled her eyes.

I thought you’d dig me out, what the hell was that!? Was it that fast when you buried me too!?

No wonder you buried me, I would bury myself too if it’s that fast!

I no longer knew what was going on in my head.

I brushed off the dirt and bowed to Tina.

“I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I’ll never go in your room again.”

“It’s fine.”

“Also, I’ll get that vase repaired.”

“It’s okay. I’m going to throw it away.”

“Huh?”

“Really, it’s okay. It’s just something from the past.” She sounded a little relieved.

Tina turned on her heels and walked towards the house. I hesitated and then followed her.

She’s probably got a lot going on in her life.

I wanted to give her a pat on the back, but that’d get her angrier if I did that with my muddy hands.

Besides, some things were better left untouched.

I hoped my duty was over after all that time buried in the field. What should I do if I still have to work for her…

When we came home, the dinner she served was full of my favourite foods.

I really couldn’t tell what she was thinking.

But I made a mental note to not anger her anymore, since bickering with people you live with wasn’t fun!
