One afternoon on my day off, I found a bag of candy that looked awfully similar to mine.

Like, I was pretty sure it was mine. It wasn’t anything rare like leather either.

I snatched it off the table and ate one of the candies. I might’ve thought it tasted a little different… but I didn’t think too much about it as I ate the rest.

But then, Tina got super angry at me when she came home!

“How could you mix up yours with mine!?”

“I’m sorry.”

It’s not my fault! How was I supposed to know!? And don’t leave it in the open if it’s so important to you!

She’d send my flying headfirst into the floor if I spoke my mind, so I refrained. The storm always passes if you wait long enough.

But this time, the storm did not pass.

“Let’s… take some measures.”

“What measures?”

Where’d that come from? Oh, don’t tell me, your ‘measure’ is to kill me so I don’t eat your candy?

“Let’s put symbols on our own belongings.”

Ah, I was wrong. Phew.

I pressed a palm to my heart and sighed. She went on:

“I’ll put cat symbols on my things and mask symbols on yours.”

“Nah, hold up.”

“Come on, get to it! I’ll blow up anything without them!”

She did not listen to my objections.

It’s important to differentiate your belongings when you live with others, sure.

But can’t you just write your names on your own stuff? Why the mask? Why the mask!? I wanted a cat too!

The cup by my hand made me scream inside. Was this gigantic mask symbol burnt onto it? Tina, do you have to be so serious about this? I want your black cat cup!

“Hey, good job, it’s obvious whose is whose now, but…”

The witch sipped her tea. “What is it this time?”

She looked like she truly didn’t give a damn, regardless of how I would answer. Not like she made any other expressions though, except maybe her angry face.

But I don’t care! Let me complain!

“Aren’t you going a little too far?”

“With what? You’re the one who said everything’s obvious now.”

“But putting mask symbols on every single one of my swords has got to be harassment!”

Why!? And how? Did you shave off a mask symbol on my blades with magic?

It scared me to see how far she took things. Tina placed her cup down and inclined her head in confusion.

“You could mix them up with mine.”

“But we both take care of our own weapons! No way they’d get mixed up!”

“What about during practice?”

“Oh, right…”

We do throw them around and they do get mixed up. I’m sorry.

Still, I can tell what weapons are mine! And if I throw them in battle, people will know I was there from the symbol!

“You’re not an assassin anymore, so I’m sure you don’t mind.”

“Then what if people ask me about the mask?”

“Tell them it’s your passion to wear masks every day.”

“I do wear it every day but I don’t like it!”

I wear it out of habit, not for my enjoyment! Get the difference already!

Arguing took the breath out of me.

Tina sipped her tea and murmured. “By the way… the candy you ate wasn’t a candy, but a magic potion…”

“Huh… you never told me.”

“I’ll keep the effects a secret, but just take care from now on.”

“Wait, tell me the effects!”

“I’ll keep them a secret.”

“Tina, please, tell me, I’m sorry.”

I don’t know why I’m apologising, but I’m sorry!

A-anyway, I’ll make sure I don’t mix them up from now on. And you shouldn’t leave magic potions lying around on the table!
