"Let me explain your job, okay?"

Saying this, Mīne pointed to a board hanging on the wall.

"The tasks will be posted there, so start with the ones that are already up, okay?"

The board was almost completely covered with papers. ...No way.

"Do you have any questions?"

"Um, it's my first day, so I was thinking about making the rounds to greet everyone..."

"It's fine. Your job is the priority."

"Is there someone to train me...?"

"There isn't. So, do your best, okay?"

With Mīne's no-nonsense attitude, I had no choice but to remain silent.

"Alright, that's the end of the explanation. If you have any questions, figure it out on your own, okay?"

With that, Mīne left the room.

Shouldn't she have said, "If you have any questions, ask me"? I wanted to greet the other departments on my first day and clean this room, but it seems I won't be allowed to do that.

Reluctantly, I took one of the papers from the board, which was almost bursting with them.

"What's this? ...A search for a missing adventurer... The deadline is... six months ago!?"

How long has this been up? And what was the previous person doing?

I peeled off all the papers from the board and sorted them into those that were past their deadline and those that weren't.

As a result:

There were 14 past their deadline, and 26 that weren't.

...There's no way I can handle this alone.

I then arranged the 26 papers in order of their deadlines and picked out the most urgent cases.

The Adventurer Guild has a rule that a department to manage adventurers must be established. This department mainly handles four tasks:

- Searching for missing adventurers

- Completing unfulfilled requests

- Enforcing adventurer regulations

- Conducting rank aptitude tests

...Or so it should be. Am I supposed to do all this by myself?

After sorting the 26 papers, this is what I got:

- Searching for missing adventurers: 5

- Completing unfulfilled requests: 16

- Enforcing adventurer regulations: 2

- Conducting rank aptitude tests: 3

I decided to start with the cases that could be resolved quickly. I took the bundle of papers for "searching for missing adventurers" and "unfulfilled requests" and headed to the third floor.

For these, I needed to go to the request reception area and refile the requests. The person who would refile them would be the Guild Master, and the rewards would come from the guild. This was necessary to ensure the cases were resolved. Although the Adventurer Guild is often seen as an organization for adventurers, it also takes measures for the benefit of the requesters.

I knocked on the Guild Master's door to get his stamp.

"Come in."

When I entered, Barizas said, "What is it, you?"

"What's wrong? Is there a problem?" Mīne asked, tilting her head.

"I immediately started working, but I need to refile these cases under the Guild Master's name."

I placed the bundle of papers in front of Barizas. At that moment, a vein pulsed in his temple.

"Wait a minute!? Tepto, what's going on?"

"Huh? ...What do you mean?"

Just as I turned to Mīne,

"Why should I clean up your mess!!!"

Barizas shouted.

...Huh? Clean up my mess?

As I was taken aback, Barizas slammed his hand on the desk and stood up.

"This is all your job! And it's your responsibility to do it! Instead of doing that, you're trying to push the responsibility onto me!?"

"...What?"

"You young whippersnapper... Don't take your job lightly! I won't stamp this."

At Barizas' response, I felt the world's logic crumbling.

"Then... what should I do?"

"I don't know. You can refile the requests yourself, can't you?"

"Does that mean I have to pay the rewards myself?"

"Of course! It's your job, isn't it?"

I put my hand to my forehead.

"Mīne..."

"What is it?"

"Did the previous person do it this way?"

"...I don't know. Sorry."

It seems this guild is off in some way. It doesn't align with the guild system I've learned over the past three years.

At that moment, I made a decision. First, I had to do something about this old man... Otherwise, the "Adventurer Management Department" would never be able to do its job properly.
